What a great life!
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by
warren502
Advantages: Meeting people,
Disadvantages: working!
...Queen Mary and Westfield is great. For anybody thinking about going to university, i beg you to have a look at this place. I am currently studying geography and am about to enter my second year. I can honestly say that i have never had such a good time in my life. Its not just about learning and education. The social side is absolutely amazing. From meeting people to going out in London, the whole experience is superb. London is amazing. It is probably possible to go to a different place every night for a year, and still never get bored. Come to Queen Mary, i promise you'll love it!...

Queen Mary College study fun graduate enjoy
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by
imi5050
Advantages: Social Life, Clubs and Societies are great.
Disadvantages: London can be expensive, you have been warned.
...students, from different departments to mix. The Students Union has recently been refurbished. There are also lots of events, throughtout the year, which are always held on the Mile End Campus site.
Campus accommodation is excellent. I stayed out every year. There are lots of accommodation, along the Regents Canal. A room with a view and some rooms also offer ensuite facilities ( e.g. House, Chesney House). You could also choose to live in Central London, London University collegiate halls of residences. Where you can rub shoulders with LSE, Imperial and UCL students.
The work load at Queen Mary College is tough, but at the end of the day it is worth it as you end up achieving the London Univeristy label. Which is just behind Cambridge and Oxford.
So take my advice and choose Queen Mary College. Not because I say so. Why not go and see...

Why pick QM?
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by
Jud7
Advantages: Respected and reputable uni, campus, accomodation, diversity
Disadvantages: Cost of living in London, comparisons to other London unis
...I'm currently a student at Queen Mary, part of the University of London group. I thought I'd write this to give some help to anyone thinking of going. I know I could have done with this information when I was thinking about university and you often receive very one-sided information.
Queen Mary is a university also including Barts school of medicine and dentistry. It is a campus university and situated in an area of London called Mile End, really near to Whitechapel and Canary Wharf. Although it is techinally the 'East End,' it is only just over a mile away from Liverpool St (hence the name) and takes about 15 minutes on the tube to get to Oxford Street - so it's not far out at all.
Although QM is part of the University of London, which is great because it shows that the university is reputable, this can also mean that QM...

Studenting in East London
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by
blinderben
Advantages: Diverse Campus based college, in East London
Disadvantages: Being a student in London is not cheap
...At the moment I am doing a Masters in Public Policy at Queen Mary and Westfield Colege University of London. Why did I decide to go there? Well, I didn't have the money to study outside London and what sort of life would I have in Exeter or York compared to London. Yet why QMUL instead of LSE who also offer this course?
Well I wanted to go to an institution that reflects London's diversity and doesn't seem aloof from it by being situated in a central enclave. I wanted to go to an institution which offers courses which examine topics in an innovative and critical light. I wanted to go to an instituion which is in an up and coming part of London. Queen Mary College fits all of these criteria.
QMUL is unique in London in that it is the only proper campus based college in the University of London. This helps in that students feel...

A big campus
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by
Abu_Musa
Advantages: one big site
Disadvantages: none
...I studied at QMW a while back, in the engineering department...
I can honestly say it was the best time in education. The best thing about QMW is that it is all on one campus.. you meet everyone and everything in one day! If you have an internatinal streak in your self you'll really enjoy on 'melting pot' feeling in the east end..The students at QMW come from a wide background... local asians to upper class gentry wanting the university of London stamp.
I heard it has changed alot as there have been big investmenst to imporove the facilities. I strongly recommend this uni, and suggest you go and give it a visit before actually plunging in! simple get off on the Mile End or Stepney Green tube station.
QMW is surrounded by great places to eat, and there is a large Muslim community there....

Want an easy way to be successful?
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by
butch82000
Advantages: don't have to travel to other campuses.
Disadvantages: none
...The answer is go to Queen Mary's. By the time you Graduate you will have a certificate saying that you passed a degree from University of London. This is prestigious enough as University of London is the oldest university and has a lot of prestigue.
But UCL, Imperial and many more top universities are also more prestigious than Queen Mary's so why is Queen Mary's particularly the recommended one?
Well firstly notice the high entry requirements Imperial and UCL have? That is because they know that is they have top students, they are more likely to have a higher percentage pass rate. They are very strict as well because if they say you need 2 A's and a B, they mean you need 2 A's and a B.
But Queen Mary's is very generous. When I applied to them they said I needed 2 B's and a C. But I ended up getting a B and 2 C's. So I decided...

Nice Location
Review of London University Queen Mary & Westfield College by
Yasman
Advantages: Location, Big Campus, Good Faculties
Disadvantages: Poor Sports Facilities
...I spent the best part of four years of my life at this place. It still has this great attachment in my heart and I still make the odd visit down to QMW now and again when some function or event is advertised.
Ths University is Unique because it manages to host all Faculties on one site. Something which is not found in other London Universities. This allows Friends in different Courses to study and be able to meet up for socialising afterwards quite easily. It also encourages meeting and befriending people of different backgrounds and areas of specialisations. This is something which stands QMW out from many of the other London Universities.
The other great thing is the location of the University, which sits in the middle of the East End, a place of great cultural diversity. One is very close to the famous Petticoat Lane...

'Goldsmiths.....now where's that again??'
Review of London University Goldsmiths College by
elvyelvy
Advantages: Friendly people, good level of education
Disadvantages: Awful area, no gym on-site
...is not cheap!!) The rooms are basic but have all the essentials you'll need for student life. You can also choose between catering and self-catering for the more adventurous.
Back to the beginning and for the University itself...
Goldsmiths was founded in the early 1890s and became part of the University of London in 1904 which hails other London Unis such as Queen Mary, Kings and SOAS. This means that you have access to the University of London Student Union and more importantly (of course!) to the excellent Senate House library in Central London which is the perfect place to find obscure publications of the wonders of Tolstoy and Shakespeare...
The subjects taught here range from Sociology to Fine Art and are mainly 'arty' and humnaity based; Goldsmiths is 'the UK's leading creative university' so don't expect astrophysics to be the no.1 subject...

Place to be
Review of London University Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine by
SSJ
Advantages: Top academic institution, modern, well located.
Disadvantages: Not well linked socially with the rest of the London colleges, not a member of NUS, expensive, high male ratio (non-medical)
...be that it is not well linked with the other London colleges, hence some of that London spirit may be lost.
Overall it is a place where you'll have both a very good education and a very good social life if you are in the med school. If not... oh well!...

Is Goldsmiths a Goldmine?
Review of London University Goldsmiths College by
pepsipin
Advantages: UoL
Disadvantages: Social life if not into Indie
...I studies at Goldsmiths in 05/06 academic year and I was studying Media and Sociology. My time here was one of many up and downs. After my first year I decided not to go back and chose to study elsewhere, but don't let that put you off, Goldsmiths may not have been for me but that does not mean it's not for you.
A major thing that appealed to me regarding Goldsmiths, which was founded in early 1891, was it being part of the University Of London (UoL). Goldsmiths accompanies many other prestigious universities in the UoL, which is made up of 31 affiliates, which are 19 colleges and 12 institutes. The main nine colleges are Goldsmiths, King's, Birbeck, LSE, Queen Mary's, Royal Holloway, SOAS, UCL and London Business School.
With Goldsmiths being part of UoL, it has many benefits for its students, Senate House Library is accessible...
