R&B Yearbook 2006
Review of R&B Yearbook 2006, The - Various Artists by
Mattjc91
Advantages: Songs for all moods, happy, sad, angry etc.
Disadvantages: A couple of dud songs on there to watch out for
...Ok, so I bought the previous R&B yearbook in 2005 and thought it was alright, but listening to this one really lifted my impressions of R&B music. I saw the CD from a Tesco store near me for about £15 and decided to give it a shot, little did I know until I got to the checkout till that it was their last one in stock (just shows how popular it must have been). It contains mainly R&B music with some Hip-Hop, some Rap and even a little bit of Reggae in there as well!
The first CD begins with a few of the biggest uplifting hits of the year in my opinion (Deja Vu, by Beyonce, and the wonderful Hips Don't Lie, by Shakira). Not to mention "Beep" by the Pussycat dolls ft. Will.I.Am (from the Black Eyed Peas). "Beep" is a nice number in a minor key, great to listen to at any time of day.
Then the mood is taken down a notch with Ne...

B2K Is Hot (But You Didn't Hear It From Me)
Review of B2K - B2K by
XICripZ
Advantages: Never go wrong on the club tunes
Disadvantages: Ballards are weak
..."B2K" is the self-titled R&B album from a group consisting of members Omarion, J-Boog, Raz-B and Lil' Fizz. Their style is a blend of pop and R&B, and it marked the changes in the R&B genre at the turn of the century as all the male vocals groups had phased away and boy bands had just about done, they came through as a refreshing take on boybands, with a street appeal.
Although this was released in 2002, almost all of it was recorded the year before this as you hear them state the year in almost all the songs. If they had of recorded it in '02, then they would have had the busiest year of their life as they went on to release two LPs and an album in the year aswell.
1. "Got's To Be"
For an opener, I was quite dissapointed by this track, but it seems to grow on you with time, so don't be completly off-put from the whole album...

Red Hot, Urban R&B: La Ross' Funkiest Album
Review of Diana (Deluxe Edition) - Diana Ross by
IanPhillips
Advantages: Includes all of the original sessions of the diana album
Disadvantages: Omits a few other Disco classics i'd like to have seen included
...Night Lover (all featured on another fabulous La Ross studio album, Baby It's Me (1977), Once In The Morning and It's My House (both of which can be found on one of her all-time greatest recording triumphs, The Boss (1979) ). However the tracks that do pop up on disc 2 are certainly nothing to complain about and hosts some great rarities that will please the keen fan of Diana Ross.
The extended alternate version of Love Hangover surprisingly manages to surpass even the dynamic original, which had topped both the Pop and R&B charts in mid 1976 and had revitalised Dianas then somewhat flagging recording career. Black music was steering in different directions and at that time, Dianas recording career had, in some aspects, lost course. That all changed when this innovative, compelling R&B/Disco/Soul classic, that was way ahead of its time...

Makaveli - 2pac arises from the grave
Review of The Don Killuminati - 2Pac by
bigdiship-hop
Advantages: Very Dark, Quality Production, Haunting Lyrics, Eerie Feel, Creativity
Disadvantages: Outlawz Guest Appearances, Some Thuggish Subject Matter, Simple Rhyming
...considered one of his best among fans.
Makaveli returns to his All Eyez on Me mentality, which is more thuggish on the single "Toss It Up", with R&B duo K-Ci and JoJo. This is one of those pro-female love songs similar to his previous collaborations with K-Ci and JoJo. Besides the obvious lavish subject matter, 2pac decides to throw in some disses towards Dr. Dre who had left Death Row a couple of months prior to the release of this album. The instrumental is a G-Funk inspired track with high-pitched whistling and thumping bass, providing another memorable song.
The album takes a much more introspective turn on the legendary "To Live and Die in L.A.". Featuring some R&B influenced production with violins, a minimalistic keyboard arrangement, and hard bass kicks, it provides a soulful atmosphere for 2pac's light-hearted view of Los Angeles...

Sexy "Poppy" R & B
Review of Between The Sheets - 411 (The) by
Pmshack99
Advantages: some great tracks, good use of samples, infectious, great vocals
Disadvantages: the apparently requisite not-so-good album tracks
...From the first time I heard the song "On My Knees", I knew The 411 were no average girl group. For one thing, they weren't producing the regulation bland pop that groups such as Atomic Kitten do with increasingly regularity - their music had a slight edge to it and, even just in that one track, they managed to convey more than one music style, while still appealing to the pop market.
And their album, "Between the Sheets" shows more of the same. They seem to draw from various influences, such as soul, r & b, hip hop and disco, and their tunes seem that much more original than their chart counterparts.
TRACK LISTING
1. On My Knees (feat. Ghostface Killah)
2. Teardrops
3. China Girl
4. Chance
5. My Friend
6. Between The Sheets
7. Dumb
8. Forever Begins
9. Jumpin'

WYCLEF JEAN WHY NOT
Review of Ecleftic, The (2 Sides 2 A Book) [ECD] - Wyclef Jean by
nikcook
Advantages: A masterly diverse journey through musical styles
Disadvantages: None
...Wyclef Jean “The Ecleftic - 2 Sides II A Book” Columbia
After falling in love with a masterly piece of R&B called “911”, my girlfriend told me that she must buy the song, despite not knowing the artists.
So being a top guy like I am (and knowing how to bank loads of browny points) off I went to my local CD shop and invested in Wyclef Jean’s “The Ecleftic - 2 Sides II A Book” on the strength of one song.
With that sort of ‘look what I’ve done for you darling” smugness on my face I played the tune on my Kenwood and instantly went up a couple of levels in her good book. (Pathetic I know, but it worked).
I then played the whole CD and sat astonished at what I was listening to. A piece of musical brilliance.
Whether you are a hip-hop fan or not, if you admire good music and pure talent you will appreciate this offering from...

A collection of immense songs!
Review of R&B - The Collection 2007 - Various Artists by
x__Amz.Loves.Harry__x
Advantages: songs from the past as well as present
Disadvantages: a couple of not-so-good songs
... General information about the album
R&B the Collection 2007 is a compilation album filled with 41 massive R&B tracks both from the past and the present. It was released in 2007, obviously lol, by Universal Music TV, a division of Universal Music Operations Limited. There are 2 CD's, the first with 21 tracks and the second with 20, which altogether make one album I would definitely recommend.
CD One Track Listings
1.Timbaland ft. One republic - apologise
2.Kanye west - stronger
3.Rihanna ft. Ne-yo - hate that I love you
4.Nicole scherzinger - baby love
5.Common ft. lily Allen - driving me wild
6.Fergie - big girls don't cry
7.Will.i.am - I got it from my mama
8.Amy winehouse - rehab
9.Chamillionaire - ridin
10. Lady sovereign - love me or hate me

Show me your Soul . . . Hip-Hop AND R&B!!!
Review of Bad Boys II [PA] - Original Soundtrack by
Pmshack99
Advantages: full of catchy tunes, some of the best names in urban music
Disadvantages: a little TOO much hip hop
...I've never seen the movie Bad Boys 2 but I love the soundtrack!!! I bought it initially based on the strength of the first single taken from it, "Shake Ya Tailfeather" by Nelly and friends. I had heard very good things about the album and, since there was songs included from Beyonce, AND justin Timberlake, among others, I decided it would be a worthwhile investment.
The album concentrates on urban music, from the dancey Destiny's Child- type r & b (by this, obviously, I mean the Beyonce track!), through to hip-hop, and soul. The majority of the tracks are hip-hop but they are varied and different and you could "shake ya tailfeather" to just about all of the tracks!!!
So allow me to highlight the most worthwhile tracks . . .
SHOW ME YOUR SOUL -
this features P. Diddy, Pharrell Williams, Loon, and . . .LENNY KRAVITZ? Surely not...

Master Of Diddly-Squat
Review of Puppet Master 2 DVD by
peppersinclaire
Advantages: It's a cheesy horror movie...
Disadvantages: ...all the things that go with bad movies - bad acting, bad music, bad hair...
...Honestly, people think I have problems. At least I don’t try to raise golems. Golems are monsters made of clay given life by supernatural means – the legend originates from a Jewish tradition and is linked with the Christian belief that god created the first man out of clay. The “go” word for a golem is “emeth” which means truth – and they carry this word around with them as a charm around their neck, carrying out their masters fiendish plans no questions asked. BUT, to erase the first “e” from the word spells “meth” which means - “he is dead.” This will stop the monster in its tracks.
Now, truth be told, there are no golems in this flick. There ARE however, living dolls, and not the kind that sicko Cliff Richard likes to keep locked in trunks. I hear he has one buried in every major town in the UK so he can open up the trunk...
