New Yorker, New Yorker......
Review of Ramada Plaza & Inn - New Yorker Hotel, New York City by monkeymitchell30

Advantages: Location, Price, Staff
Disadvantages: Slightly small rooms

...We stayed at the New Yorker April 2006. We found the rooms weren\'t huge but enough space for two and extremely good on price. The staff were all really friendly but not in that overly patronising way that can sometimes happen in the USA. For us, the added bonus' were the Italian on the bottom left of the hotel and more so, the Tick Tock diner on the right of the hotel. The great thing about the diner was that it was open 24hours, ideal for those late breakfasts or even later evening meals when you got on the wrong subway and got lost in Queens! But that's a whole other story. The diner had a 'Hurley' lookalike - Lost star. I'm not sure if he knew it, but he was the friendliest chap I have ever met as well. Anyway, we got back to New York next year for our wedding, unfortunately we can't get back into the New Yorker as they are having... Read review

Four night hotel stay April 2007
Review of Ramada Plaza & Inn - New Yorker Hotel, New York City by Miffy2003

Advantages: Excellent location and well priced for Manhattan Island
Disadvantages: Noisy renovations currently and a bit tired in places, but clean

...The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the Manhattan Mall. There was another subway station one block along 34th Steet which connected to lots of other subway lines. The hotel itself is a bit rundown. It is nothing major in my opinion and you can see the grandeur the hotel used to have - for example there are some extremely impressive chandeliers in the lobby area. It is all in an Art Deco style which I love but is of course subjective! There are renovations underway at this hotel to "restore it to its former glory". The drawings of "how it will look" appear very impressive. No doubt the increase in prices when it's complete... Read review

Confusion and Illusion at Holiday Inn
Review of Holiday Inn Hotel, New York JFK Airport by From_The_Continent

Advantages: cheap at first glance
Disadvantages: not really cheap, overall insufficient product & service quality

..., 5 Stars ~ the lowprice Holiday Inn Express Hotels, 2-3 Stars ~ the Holiday Inn Resorts, upmarket holiday resorts The HI Group is itself part of a larger Group, Bass Hotels, which also includes the brands Inter-Continental and Forum Hotels. I have myself stayed at five of the HI Group's hotels, and have spend a total of around 25 nights there: ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, New York JFK Airport ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, Warsaw ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, Paris CDG Airport ~ Holiday Inn Hotel, Istanbul ~ Holiday Inn Crown Plaza, Istanbul In order to stay within the right category, I will only discuss my experiences with the classic Holiday Inn Hotels - and there the picture is very doom. At first sight, HIs often appear to be the cheapest international business hotels in the city, boasting themselves with five big stars. There is a double flaw... Read review

the ultimate new york
Review of New York in general by kwhyte

Advantages: everything and anything
Disadvantages: flight is too long from Manchester

...New York, New York, there are movies, songs, books named after this city of dreams. It has everything and anything. I went last fall with my family and it was the best week I have ever had in my life, I stayed in the Waldorf Astoria which is one of the most beautiful and elegant hotels you could ever stay in! Dont let people say that " the Plaza is the best hotel in New York becuse it's not its the Waldorf for sure. There is so much to do in New Yorkand the whole place is like one giantfilm set, you have Time Square where I say Fight Club because it is an R and if you are with your parents you can see it your under 17 and I was 14 but in Scotland i'd have to be 18 with or without parental consent, Empire State buliding which was breath taking from the top, statue of libirty which I never got over to see as the que was far to long... Value for Money
Review of Member Advice on Chain Hotels: Day's Inn by ashford

Advantages: Convenient locations. Fixed price per room
Disadvantages: Lack character of older hotels

...There is growing competition for Britain's traditional lodging industry with the entry of budget hotel chains into the UK market. One of the recent entrants is the US company,Days Inn,and although a relative "new kid on the block",they are already making waves.Although not the cheapest they do offer quite high quality accommodation for your money. Most of the Days Inn hotels are located near to the main Motorway network which make them locationally convenient for taking a city break or visiting a theme park. Their current network of hotels include : ***Days Inn Sheffield South ***Days Inn Basingstoke East ***Birmingham Days Inn ***Days Inn Warwick North ***Days Inn Derby South ***Days Inn South Mimms ***Days Inn Leicester Forest East ***Days Inn Bristol West ***Days Inn Swindon East (Membury) ***Days Inn Bradford South ***Abington Days... >>>>>It’s a Hell Of A Town!!!<<<<<
Review of New York City by AshNYC

Advantages: Beautiful City Thriving With Life
Disadvantages: None That Is Really Important You Could Love It Too Much

..., and directly to its right is the great St. Patrick Cathedral. Beyond lie 57th street one of New York’s greatest shopping districts, and the Plaza Hotel, which faces the vast Central Park. To the left flows the Hudson River, which flows underneath the majestic George Washington Bridge, which joins New York and New Jersey. On a clear day you can see the states of Connecticut and Massachusetts. East – Directly east lies the borough of Queens. At the waters edge to the northeast stands the United Nations Headquarters. Obviously visible is the CitiCorp building, which dominates the Queens Skyline; across the river onto Long Island are the Triboro, Whitestone and Throngs Neck Bridges, providing access to LaGuardia and JFK International Airports and 100 miles of Long Island Beachfronts. To the southeast the Williamsburg Bridge leads to Brooklyn. South... Read review

An Englishwoman in New York
Review of New York in general by tamara

Advantages: the whole caboodle.....
Disadvantages: none...

...Fantastic. Competely blew me away. Stayed with friends in uptown Manhattan and the shopping, nightlife and sheer diversity of this city is incredible. Take all your savings and an extra suitcase! Don't be afraid to travel around on your own - for those with a bad sense of direction it is almost impossible to get lost (except maybe in Bloomingdales!) The New Yorkers were friendly, chatty and very happy to offer an alien to their city advice, when encountering one in their local bagel store. I naively ignored the advice I had received from them and those back home about the horrors of the NY subway and found that in comparison to London they were much cleaner and felt safer. I digress - a little story. On my last night I had taken down the wrong address to a restaurant were I was supposed to meet a friend. So I stopped to ask... Read review

The big apple rocks!
Review of New York City by harj123

Advantages: great atmosphere,fantastic sights
Disadvantages: hectic pace, time flys too quick

...New york is without a doubt one of my favourite holiday destinations ever.I went for a four day trip there in a coldish march and had a fantastic time.Even though NEW YORK consits of four boroughs, manhattan, harlem, greenwich and brooklyn, for many NEW YORK is Manhattan .All the main attractions are there and its a 24 hr spectacle of activity. By plane new york is about 8hrs direct flight from london. The main airport to city is the jfk airport. As i landed there what became apparent was the stringent checks done by customs, obviously increased after the terror attacks.Taking one of the distinctive yellow cabs to the hotel was fun,the colourful conversation with the driver was lively! it seems he had arrived in new york from russia and in his second day in city had got a job as a cab driver and had never looked back!. The hotel i stayed... Read review

Value for Money
Review of Member Advice on Chain Hotels: Whitbread Travel Inns / Metros by ashford

Advantages: Value for Money. Transparent Pricing.
Disadvantages: Lunch and dinner must be obtained elsewhere

.... These are value-for-money,no frills, establishments where your rate covers the room and is not charged by person. Costs vary from as low as 29 pounds to 69 pounds depending on type, location, season and on special offers. Market research studies clearly indicate that both leisure and business travellers infinitely prefer per-room pricing to the traditional per-person rates. For a fixed price you get a comfortable room, accommodation for a number of people and other basic facilities. Most of the Travel Inns are located alongside motorways or busy trunk roads but 30 of them are Travel Inn Metro Hotels in leading towns and cities and at airports. Travel Inn Capital hotels have been developed in London. Whitbread reputedly are aiming to expand their network by an additional 20,000 rooms by the year 2005. Their expansion plans include some 50 new Travel Inns... Read review

New York, New York.
Review of New York City by Susie-34668

Advantages: Plenty to do and see.
Disadvantages: Crowds. Expensive.

...It took me 15 years to make it to New York City. Why? you ask. Well Len and I, being English, were concerned about being tourists and the safety issue. Well, we need not have worried. We were meeting family there. Prior to our flight, we phoned the hotel to see how much transportation to the hotel would be. They suggested a yellow cab, which would cost around $25-$30. Exchange rate $1.83 to the £. So we get outside of the airport and see the sign for yellow cabs. The gentleman there said to us, this is your cab. He gave us a yellow leaflet with Taxi information. Asked us which hotel, and pointed to the $22-$26 area. Well our cabbie didn't speak English, so we kind of felt like prisioners in the back of the taxi, with the glass panel in front of us. The ride took 45 minutes and with the $4 cost of the toll, came to $28... Read review
