...of adventure, decent picnic provided – a most enjoyable day. Just a shame about the icy wind and snow! On day three we moved on to Ravello, accompanying our luggage by car some of the way, and walking the final 9km with a loop inland through lemon-groves from Maiori; could have done more had the route allowed for it. Ravello is a beautiful old town of narrow streets and gardens, perched on a hilltop high above the sea. Here Inntravel have found another comfortable and characterful hotel with good food – the Villa Maria. But we had another quibble with the route-planning; Inntravel’s notes suggest you spend the next day (4) exploring the town. Full of interest though it is, Ravello does not require a full day, especially if you have arrived early the previous afternoon. Advantages: Beautiful, picturesque, loads to see, hot hot hot

...and Ravello for a truly relaxed day with breathtaking views. Limoncello is the local lemon licquor and it packs quite a punch, it is said to aid digestion and many eateries serve you a complimentary slug after your meal. Try the pizza and pasta, believe me its far better than the stuff you'll have in the uk and sample Lacrima christi, a wine from the vesuvio region (does anyone know where I can get any in the UK????) Italy does have the reputation for being expensive but if you can afford it , its definetly worth it- if you can't save up!! I do! The only downside is that you can't possibly fit everything in- aside from the aforementioned there is Mount Vesuvius, Naples, Casserta palace, Solfatara volcano, the island of Ischia and on and on...... ...roman ruins) it also has an excellent bus link around the Almalfi coast to Positanio, Amalfi and Ravello. A hydro foil and ferry to the island of Capri. Public transport is very cheap, and easy to use. If you are after a beach holiday then this isnt the place for you, but if you want to sight see and galavant around then you couldnt do better then coming here. Sorrento its self is a fairly large town, with several museums, loads of shops - designer label abound here and also some shops for the poor people (ie ME!!). Loads of resturants and bars which are excellent and again very reasonable. We did the usual touristy things eg visited pompeii on the train and Hersulaum. This two sites are wonderful! Very easy to get too using the train. Out of the two I prefeered Hersulaum due to the fact that it was smaller and better preserved... Read review

Advantages: ideal for non flyers wishing to travel to the warmer climate of the med.
Disadvantages: NOT A TRIP FOR CHILDREN WHO WILL GET RESTLESS ON A LONG COACH JOURNEY

...the Sorrento area before. This may resullt in LACK OF NUMBERS wishing to partake in a repeat excursion and the trip may be cancelled. However it is easy to make your own way to these attractions if this should happen. I would not recommend a trip to Pompeii if you have difficulty in walking or you are unsteady on your feet. The tempratures are searing and it is very hot...40 degrees + on some occasions. (TAKE A LARGE BOTTLE OF WATER!!) KeepHydrated Be careful. Medical facilities are not exactly (TOP NOTCH) if you get into Difficulty! On a trip to mount Vesuvius it is possible to reach about 1KM from the summit by vehicle...However..the last 1000m are only accessible by foot.. Again...the views are outstanding but the temprature is HOT HOT HOT! The Amalfi Coast is Stunning. Positano, Amalfi, Ravello...and if you get the chance... Read review
