A Little Gem in London
Review of London Bridge Hotel, London by
thesimpsons
Advantages: Right in the hub of things with good transport links
Disadvantages: A little on the expensive side?
...We first stayed at the London Bridge Hotel on the recommendation of Great Rail Journeys as an overnight stop before travelling on Eurostar from Waterloo. Today, with Eurostar having moved to St Pancras the London Bridge Hotel is no longer used by Great Rail Journeys but it is now our first choice for accommodation if we are in London to see a West End Show.
The hotel is right in the hub of things but when you step through the door you are in a different world. A world of cheerful and polite staff that do everything to make your stay a special occasion.
The rooms are beautifully furnished and exceptionally clean with robes and slippers in the wardrobe for your personal use.
The hotel offers an evening meal and if you are wanting to go to the theatre they can offer an early mealtime so that you can eat at leisure before going out...

Good discounts at hotels in London
Review of london-discount-hotel.com by
starmaven
Advantages: Good special offers, easy to book hotels
Disadvantages: More hotel details needed
...It was very easy to book a luxury hotel in London on this site.
They have more than 100 hotels that you can view and book online ranging from Best Western, Comfort Inn, Hilton, Express by Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn and also many independently owned budget hotels. They offer accommodation in Central London ranging from low-cost privately owned guest houses to five star global chains.
Most are located close to major London attractions like the Covent Garden theatres, Madame Tussauds, Tower of London and are perfectly situated near Oxford Street, Harrods, Knightsbridge and Kensington for shopping.
The rates are much below published rack rates and include local taxes, service and breakfast.
We needed two rooms next to each other and the kind people at London Discount Hotel.com were really friendly and helpful. They contacted the hotel...

Digging for gold at the Hyatt
Review of Member Advice on Chain Hotels: Hyatt Hotels by
Newfloridian
Advantages: A premier, luxurious, worldwide hotel chain - A superb and generous loyalty card scheme - Can be surprisingly competitive and cost effective if you know where to look
Disadvantages: Minimal representation in the UK
...please have a look at!) which describes this Hyatt in greater detail. (http://www.ciao.co.uk/opinion.php/OpinionId/5315425)
Hyatt, UK
It is a shame that the Hyatt chain’s presence in the UK is now minimal. Until a year or so ago they had two properties in Sloane Square, London – a few minutes walk from Harrods and Harvey Nicholls. These were the Carlton Towers and the Lowndes Hotels. Sadly they have been transferred to another (non Gold Point) group. The only representative now is the Hyatt Regency, Birmingham which overlooks and is linked to the International Convention Centre and Gas Street Basin.
I have also stayed at the Hyatt Grand Cypress Resort, Lake Buena Vista and the Orlando Hyatt; the Hyatt Westshore, Tampa – all in Florida and the Manhattan Grand Hyatt, New York. I am due to visit the newly refurbished Hyatt in Brussells...

Review of Hyatt Regency Taba Heights, Taba by
B_arbie
Advantages: Weather, hotel features
Disadvantages: location
...Went to this fabulous hotel at the end of November....
What an experience !!!!
Flight from London Gatwick took abou 4-5 hours, but it was enjoyable jurney with nice meal, snacks and movie. Booked it with Longwood Holidays. Can't fault them. Transfer from Taba airport to the hotel took about 45 mins.
When we arrived there, oh my.... What a place, fountains outside the hotel, green palm trees... Sainai mountains in the background.....
The hotel is designed as a little village, lots of little buildings in bedouin style located in pretty gardens. Everywhere so green, you would never thought that you are in the middle of the desert!!!
2 big swimming pools but designed in such way that it seems that there is at least 5 or 6 different pools. All sunbeds are wooden and you get fresh towel for your sunbed everyday (free of charge...

Thistle Hyde Park, London
Review of Thistle Hyde Park, London by
karolyn_kate123
Advantages: Outstanding Views, best hotel in London i've stayed at
Disadvantages: couldn't fault it
...I stayed at this Hotel last year, and have been to London 4 times since. Ive stayed in over 10 hotels in the capital and can honestly say this has been my favourite hotel.
The views over Hyde Park were gorgeous and gave a lovely view of the london eye, and the flight path. The rooms were a good size and layed out well. It wasn't unclean at all.
The staff were extremely helpful and went out their way to help you. The breakfast was gorgeous and provided a great choice.
The hotel was close to the local tube station, and close to notting hill and shops. It was central to oxford street and all that London has to offer, without been slap bang in the middle.
Only downfall i suppose ( the only one) was that it was upstairs to a petrol station yet it wasnt a problem for me.
I would recommend this hotel 100% and enjoyed my stay....

Weymouth: A Pleasant Resort
Review of Weymouth (England) by
ashford
Advantages: Nice mix of old and new. Nice harbour, good shopping
Disadvantages: Can get crowded at height of the season
...area,on the other hand, are sophisticated bistros and fine restaurants, which although more expensive,do serve good cuisine. If you enjoy ethnic cuisine you will not be disappointed for a town of its size,Weymouth has a lot of Indian,Chinese and Continental eateries.Shopping in town is good-the shopping centre is partially pedestrianised and its also fairly compact. There is a good range of shops and price wise Weymouth seems to be reasonably cheap.
From London there is a good train service and there are also coach services as well, these are markedly cheaper. Accommodation is plentiful, ranging from several elegant hotels, medium priced guest houses to an enormous number of homely bed and breakfast places....

The Place to Stay
Review of Hilton London Docklands, London by
ryankett
Advantages: Lovely, Clean Spacious Rooms, some with a fantastic view of canary wharf
Disadvantages: The evening meal was poor
...I had never heard of the Hilton London Docklands before I had booked, but ended up having two fantastic days in late February this year.
The Hilton London Docklands is built directly opposite Canary Wharf on the other side of the Thames, an area of massive redevelopment. Out of London this area has still got a reputation of being rough, but in reality in now consists of expensive townhouses and Luxury apartments. The hotel itself has well over 800 rooms and is split into three wings.
Me and my partner had booked a double room, but discovered that it looked more like a large studio flat, considering the price of property in London these days, I was rather pleasantly surprised. There was also a settee and table and chairs and cable TV. The bathroom was gorgeous and the whole place was extremely clean and well keep.
The reception...

A bridge too far in Birmingham
Review of Hyatt Regency, Birmingham by
Newfloridian
Advantages: Now unique in the UK - the only representative of the Hyatt
Disadvantages: Very average compared against the standards of this chain
...We had the occasion to spend a couple of nights in Birmingham recently. As Gold Passport members, our natural choice was the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the centre of Birmingham. Billed as the premier hotel venue in Britain’s second city, this is now the only remaining representative of the upscale American chain in the UK – the Carlton Tower and the Lowndes Hotels in London having been sold about three years ago.
The Hyatt brand started on the west coast of America in the early 1960s with a mission statement to be large, open plan and generously accommodating. New buildings were often constructed around multi-floor atriums lavishly decorated with marble, glass and fountains. They led the way in providing “extras” for the discerning traveller. This has been formalised in the Regency Club. Several floors are set aside for guests wishing...

Whirlwind tour of London
Review of London (England) by
gemma1234
Advantages: Lots to see and do, good atmosphere, exciting and cosmopolitan
Disadvantages: A bit too crowded and far too much traffic !
...We went on a school trip it was a budget break but was subsidised. The main purpose of the trip was to see the Millenium dome. The dome itself was very boring and not worth the entry fee! The rest of London was great though.
The best thing about London was that was so much to do and everything was so cosmopoltian and there are so many very different attractions so close together.
The only downside about our trip was that the transport was very crowded and slow moving. The traffic was very slow moving and the bus was so crowded I had never seen anything like it in my life! The bus was so packed people were unable to get on or off at the stops! Eventually we asked someone which bus to get, she was very friendly and helpful as were most of the people we met in London.
If you want to visit London it is a very interesting experience...

A week at the Mercure...
Review of Mercure London City Bankside, London by
DuckJen
Advantages: Reasonably priced!
Disadvantages: Rooms basic.
...I stayed at the Mercure in December 2005. It was a bit of last minute booking - booked it on the Friday and then travelled on the Monday. Due to this it was the literally the only place in central London available for the week and prior to this I had never even heard of the hotel!
Location - It is literally just behind the Tate Modern and Millenium Bridge. It is about 10mins walk from the hotel to the nearest tube at London Bridge so it is relatively easy to get about.
Rooms - Rooms are basic. Similar to staying in an Ibis or Travellodge. They do have everything you need though - TV, tea and coffee facilities etc. And they seemed clean.
Facilities - The hotel has a small gym. In has a restaurant and bar but I never ate or drink so can't comment on this. Staff all seemed relatively friendly.
Price - It was between £60 - £70...
