Fun, friendly, budget hotel in a great location
Review of Rembrandt Square Hotel, Amsterdam by
death2mullets
Advantages: Great location, near to some good nightlife
Disadvantages: Area is noisy, not recommended for children
...Arriving in Amsterdam a few hours later than planned is never good, especially when you have not booked a hotel in advance. Luckily, one of my friends had recommended this hotel to me, and they had a room available that we could have.
The Rembrandt Square Hotel is situated about 10-15mins walk from the Central Train station. We got a taxi there, but I would advise against this. Amsterdam seem to have some of the highest taxi costs that I've ever seen. The 5-10 minute journey (through some minorly busy traffic) cost us 30 euros. I'm not quite sure how the cost was justified, but I suppose we can be thankful that we got there safely when it was already quite late at night.
The hotel is located above a cafe/bar called "Cafe Smokey". There is a small side entrance to the right of the cafe, and then you go up a flight of stairs...

For a luxury weekend in London
Review of The Rembrandt Hotel, Knightsbridge, London by
Wearsidelass
Advantages: Wonderful surroundings
Disadvantages: Expensive if you have to pay full price
...Hubby and I had a wonderful Christmas present from our daughter and her partner – a weekend in London and a show! WOW! Were we impressed! She had secretly liaised with my boss so that I could have a long weekend in London. So, on Friday 14 January, off we trotted to London!
She chose The Rembrandt Hotel which is situated in Knightsbridge, in fact, it is opposite the Natural History Museum/Victoria & Albert Museum. We did ’hum and ha’ a bit as to whether we should drive up or get the train. At first, the train seemed the better option as London is an absolute nightmare to drive around plus there is that dreaded congestion charge. But then I had a brilliant idea. The company I work for has a flat in the Sloane Avenue area (unfortunately only available to Board members) and it is situated only 3 minutes walking distance from...

UPDATE - This Rembrandt Is Not Quite A Masterpiece
Review of Hotels, International, London by
the_mad_cabbie
Advantages: Good value for price. Well appointed. Central location
Disadvantages: A bit impersonal.
...~ ~ The Rembrandt Hotel is situated in Kensington High Street, directly opposite the Victoria and Albert Museum. My wife and I, along with our nine-year-old daughter, stayed here for a week in February, 2000 when visiting an exhibition in Earls Court.
~ ~ If I am totally honest, it wasn't our first choice of accommodation. This would have been the Jury’s Hotel situated in Earls Court itself, on purely partisan grounds, as it is Irish owned, and we also know the Dublin hotel well and that the group have high standards.
Anyway, or first choice being fully booked, I got busy on the old Web to find an alternative.
~ ~ My wife had an expense allowance of £125 per day for hotel costs from her employer, so being a canny Scot, I was determined to get us an all-in deal within this budget.
A swimming pool was a must, as my wee...

...The Rembrandt Hotel Manchester
Well for my second visit to Manchester just before Christmas. I decided to look for somewhere smaller than the Thistle having had such a bad experience there. I went back to Manchester Online – accommodation-all types-city centre.
After working my way through the list looking at the hotel, the price and so on. I found this picture (http://www.ukhotel.com/north-west-england/rembrandt-hotel.htm) and I was hooked. It looked exactly like my local ex-Forte Post House which is also 3 stars and is an excellent hotel.
I was really looking forward to this visit as the hotel is near Chinatown (decent oriental food) and the city centre, also it was well within my pocket for a B&B at £35 per night.
However when I arrived I discovered that it really was not at all what I expected. Firstly I walked from...

You'll be surprised what get for your Money!
Review of Rembrandt Residence Hotel, Amsterdam by
serendipitious
Advantages: Location, Architecture & Frienly Staff
Disadvantages: None
...These seventeenth and nineteenth century buidings house the Rembrandt Residence Hotel, a glorious retreat from the bustling city of Amsterdam. This hotel modestly claims two stars and while the rooms are basic, they are clean and comfortably furnished and in my opinion this hotel could easily be three star property.
The location is excellent, idealy situated between the Herengracht and the Singel canals, near Dam square and approximately ten minutes from the Central Train station.
Rooms boast dizzyingly high ceilings and large ceiling to almost floor windows adorned with heavy curtains that make the room incredibly cosy for those who need to block out the light! The windows open and are kept in place with a wooden batton, I initially found this difficult as the windows are heavy!
Ask for a room on the canal if you want...

Good hotel, but is it worth the money?
Review of American Hotel, Amsterdam by
tartlette83
Advantages: Location, tourist attraction in itself
Disadvantages: Expensive, some rooms with bad views
...I went to Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago on a girlie trip. There were 6 of us going and being the classy girls that we are we wanted a somewhat classy hotel. We are also very aware of the pennies and therefore wanted somewhere good value, which included breakfast.
Cue hour long searches on the internet looking for the perfect hotel. We thought we had found it. We booked a hotel in Rembrandt Square which was brand new, had a swimming pool and breakfast would only cost us 9 Euros per day. We found it on one of the hotel reduction sites and so the price was only around 40 Euros per night each - bargain we thought. Then, a month before the trip, the hotel management write to us to say that the hotel will not be opening on time - ARGH!!!! Not to worry they said, we'll put you up at our sister hotel, the Amsterdam American...
