...This is not a review it is our experience with dollar car hire. Some people like to rent a car when they are on holiday and recently I have been on holiday in California (I actually wrote this review in California but I forgot to type it up.) so when we got to California we decided to rent - a - car from a place called Dollar rent a car, we had been traveling for over 48 hours already (from Liverpool to Heathrow and to LA.) But before we went my Mum had booked a car for 50.80 pounds that was not including insurances. When we had arrived at dollar hire head quarters in LA we had brought a slip of confirmation this showed basically that she had paid for the car over the internet. ...Dollar or $……it’s not. Dollar rent a car provide a wide range of vehicles for those who are fly-driving in Orlando from Sanford Airport. Having just returned from a fly-drive holiday there (the first I have done) I was really impressed with the set up. Having arrived at the airport after a 9 hour flight, waited for ever for the luggage whilst having to listen to some poor tired kids cry their eyes out, I walked out of the terminal and to the Dollar desk. Everything had been pre-arranged and it was merely a matter of giving them my licence details, credit card details and “Have a nice day, here are your keys sir” Walk out of the building into a nice big people carrier with a full tank of petrol. PAI (Personal accident insurance) which costs £4.75 per day and provides cover for accidental death, injury and medical expenses for renter and the passengers. RFL – Vehicle registration fee charged at 95p per day. All vehicles should be provided with a full tank of petrol, and you must return the car the same, or you will be charged at a very high fuel bill. Always check the fuel gauge reading before driving away and if its not full go back into the office, so that a note can be entered on to the rental agreement. This happened to me once when I rented a car for my holiday, but had the advantage on knowing to check first. Another thing is to always check that the car is not damaged, even small scratches... ...I regulalry rent cars due to my job. Below are some tips on how to save money on Avis. 1st of all, if you have time, always ask for a rate at the UK reservation centre AND the one in the country you wish to reserve the car from. This is because sometimes there are local promotions, which make it cheaper to reserve the car by phoning AVIS in the country where you intend to pick it up. If you are member of any airline programme, you will be given some discount. If you have an executive BA card, you can tell them you have gold status and thus qualify for a higher discount. Always ask the code for the rate you have been quoted on the phone. Unfortunately Avis have a tendency of billing you at a different rate than the one you had agreed on the phone! Try to reserve a car for at least 3 days, there is not really too much... Read review

...Very poor customer policies! Alamo really surprised us with very strange business ethics! To sum up my experience: Alamo personnel give customers false information (about reimbursement and about car details). Alamo cannot handle special requests (we needed a special car and tried to solve this in advance). Alamo rather takes short term money instead of building a long term relationship with a satisfied customer. The whole story: We made a reservation from Germany and rented a car in Reno. As we planned a camping tour, we needed a stow & go car because we intended to sleep in the back. In order to make sure that we get this special car we phoned Alamo in Reno in advance which car to book and explained that we definitely need this car type and no other. They told us we need a Full Size SUV and promised us that this is no problem... Read review

...In May of 2004 I went on holiday to Marbella in Spain. As we had booked our accommodation and flight separate, we didn't have the transfers included and didn't want to spend a fortune on taxis. I did a search on the internet and found a site through Google called 'best price rent a car'. It was easy to navigate through the booking process. I just clicked on the location of my pick up and the dates that I wanted the car hire for and the system searched for the best prices available. It even gave me several choices of car provider and the prices that they offer. I opted for a car provider called 'Benelux' and as there were only two us and I am a bit tight, reserved a three door Ford Ka with no air con. This included all the insurance coverage which we took as well, we made sure to take the works as we didn’t fancy being sued if something went wrong. The second Dollar experience was just as satisfactory. We were in Waikiki, Hawaii on a five night holiday and decided we wanted to rent a car for a few days to get around the island a bit. We came across the Dollar Car Rental yard and headed on in straight off the street. There were a few cars on the lot ranging from small cars to 4x4 jeeps . We booked an economy and were given yet another dodge. I can’t quite remember the model we got this time round but it was about the same size as the Stratus. ...My company is renting all their cars through National Car Rental. And recently I made use of them quite frequently, so I thought, I tell you about them. They offer a very good booking service. We for example have an online booking system integrated in our Intranet - you simply fill in the data, get approval by your manager and usually 1 hour later, get the booking details emailed to you by National Car Rental. One option they offer is very useful for me. You don't actually have to go and pick up your car at a branch - even though they have a very good nationwide coverage. You can get them to deliver your car directly to your office or home. I tend to book my car for rather early in the morning and until now, they always delivered it the evening before - which really gives me peace of mind to make it in time for my meetings...
