Hotel Cabin, Reykjavik
Review of Hotel Cabin, Reykjavik by
fijiclaire
Advantages: great location and value for money
Disadvantages: size of rooms
...I stayed in this hotel during easter 2008. I took a party of 30 pupils on a school trip to Iceland. This hotel is conveniently located with easy drop of for coaches. The reception staff were very helpful at all times regarding any matters. The rooms are cosy to say the lest, probably the smallest rooms i have come across however we were not there to sample the rooms. Bathrooms were clean and of an acceptable size. Views from rooms varied gratefull, either a view on a corridor, out onto other buildings or a stunning view if you are at front of building. Close walking distance to pizza hut, restaurants and there is a petrol station with shop across the road including a subway restaurant. Location for whale watchibng was also very close. The breakfast was simple but adequate. Dinners were the same, packed lunches made for us were large...

A 21st Century hotel in historic Reykjavik
Review of Hotel Reykjavik Centrum, Reykjavik by
millieanna
Advantages: In the heart of traditional Reykjavic
Disadvantages: none
...sympathetically restored and intergrated into the fabric of the building and can be viewed from a glass window near the front of the hotel or by entrance next to the hotel for a small fee.
As the hotel is newly built it has good clean reasonable sized rooms, clean facilities and pleasing public spaces. The modern facilities merge well with the traditional frontage of the building.
The reception staff all speak good english and are very helpful too.
Breakfast is served in the hotel's dining room and is a buffet style comprising of all you would expect from this standard of hotel. The food was of a good quality and plentiful but was pretty similar all the time we stayed. this is not a complaint, just a comment. the dining room transforms into a restaurant at night. this was expensive but comparable to all eating out experiences in Reykjavik...

smelly hotel!
Review of Hotel Floki, Reykjavik by
nat23y
Advantages: cheap, close to city centre
Disadvantages: no bathroom in room,
...to this hotel is that the price included breakfast. The food is very expensive in Iceland so this was helpful - A sandwich, Oreo cookies, banana and juice made for an interesting breakfast but at least the cookies were good for throwing in the backpack for a mid morning snack.
Bear in mind that most Reykjavik hotels rates will include a breakfast and usually this is a buffet breakfast (unlike ours which was made the night before and put in our in room fridge while we were out.)
To sum it up - If you're on a budget this place makes a fairly good base to see the sights of Reykjavik and the surrounding areas. The tours are also pretty expensive (upwards of £35) so might be a good idea to spend less on the accommodation and more on the tours as they are well worth it. Also - most people spend their time seeing the sights which are outside of the city...

The Ice Man Cometh
Review of Radisson SAS Hotel 1919, Reykjavik by
andyk910
Advantages: Central location in town, funky and chic hotel
Disadvantages: Feels like staying in IKEA without the advantage of it being cheap
...**Introduction**
It was a surprise to me that Iceland is the same size as England - I had thought it was a rather smaller island. The population, around 320,000 people, is only in total the size of one of the medium cities in the UK. More than half, about 170,000 people, live in the capital Reykjavik, or in its immediate vicinity. This is in the relatively milder south-west of the island (the north is just about within the Arctic Circle). This is the most northerly Capital City in the world - and in September, it was already cold - more like a British November.
I enjoyed my visit and want to tell you about the Radisson SAS 1919 Hotel, where I stayed.
**Location and how to get there**
This hotel is in central down-town Reykjavik, just near the harbour. Most visitors arrive at Keflavik, Iceland's International Airport on a peninsula...

Northern Nights
Review of Hotel Skjaldbreid (Reykjavik) by
Collingwood21
Advantages: Central location, Clean and comfortable, Friendly staff all speak excellent English
Disadvantages: Local bars can get quite noisy, especially at weekends
...Accommodation arrangements in Reykjavik are not all that easy, considering that it is a capital city. As it is only recently begun to open up to tourism on a big scale, the city is rather lacking the large faceless chain hotels that have been spawned in virtually every other major city where it is even remotely likely that tourists will be attracted. Indeed, the only chain hotel I recall noticing during my stay in Reykjavik was the Radisson SAS – which seemed very popular with American visitors, although it was quite out of the way. This is of course not necessarily a bad thing (it does stop Reykjavik feeling like every other European city) but it also means that you need to go for an independent hotel, which in my experience can be a decidedly hit and miss affair. Most hotels in the city are small businesses, often family run...

Capital of Cool
Review of Reykjavik (Iceland) by
elmhurstgb
Advantages: Unique and exciting city
Disadvantages: It is very expensive
...The area surrounding Reykjavik is one of the most astounding and beautiful locations in Europe. By touring the route known as the Golden Circle it is possible to see stunning scenery, active gysers and inactive volcanos. You can see the location where America and Europe are literally being pulled apart and the land is sinking by several centimetres a year as a result. You can visit fantastic waterfalls where the water flows directly from a distant glacier and you can visit towns where, due to the amount of thermal energy in the rocks it is built on, they can grow their own bananas. Guided tours of this route are usually available from the airport or your hotel, expect to pay around 40 - 50 quid for a full day out.
The city has few large buildings, indeed the largest structure seems to be the Cathedral tower. This is situated close...

Review of Reykjavik (Iceland) by

Advantages: Cool, Cultured, Spectacular natural surroundings
Disadvantages: The National Museum has been closed all year, Very expensive
...are also available from several European airports and from North America (where you can fly direct or have a stopover in Iceland en route to Europe). For more details, visit:

Incidentally, getting the 50km from the airport to the city is relatively easy, as one the local tour companies (Reykjavik Excursions) operates a Fly Bus service that will take you direct to the door of your hotel - and pick you up from there to come back. There are relatively few flights per day into Keflavik, so the bus just arrives to meet each one and runs a timetable to meet all outgoing ones. My tickets were included in the price of my holiday, but one of the other travellers buying tickets was charged 1000ISK...
