Sex, Violence - Another Richard Laymon Book
Review of The Lake - Richard Laymon by
belfin
Advantages: Some strong characters - good storyline
Disadvantages: Bit predictable
...After all my reviews of children's books I thought I would try writing one for the adults out there. This is not one to read to your little kiddiewinkles.
***The Author***
Richard Laymon died on Valentine's Day, 2001 at the age of just 54, but as with a lot of authors he had finished works available and this is one of them. He wrote over 30 novels as well as even more short stories. His genre was horror and he was well known for lots of gory bits in there as well as a lot of sexual experiences too. After all sex and violence sells, especially when it's accompanied by a good story. That's one thing that stands out with his books is that there is always a good storyline in there and it's not just gratuitous mentions of gore and assault.
He is published in the UK by Headline who also publish many other great authors...

The Woods Are Dark - Richard Laymon
Review of The Woods Are Dark - Richard Laymon by
kissesofgold
Advantages: excellent read
Disadvantages: DONT READ BEFORE BED TIME !!!
...Laymon's best book. It can be read in one and is excellent my first book of of his i couldnt put his book down, and had to remember to breathe Laymon is able to put normal, everyday characters in extreme situations and watch them fight for their lives.
The book is straight to the point no messing around describing leaves and boring stuff, just fast moving story line and scarey but with exciting writing. I never read a book from cover to cover untill i read one of laymons . I've given people who don't read Laymon the first chapter and told them to read it. My father was hooked and my mother threw the book down after the first few pages and wouldnt read any more ... bit too scarey for her... hee heee This book is infectious, it drags you in like the woods drag in the characters. Neala and her friend Sherri are traveling the backroads...

Funland by Richard Laymon
Review of Funland - Richard Laymon by
jamidomobilio
Advantages: A real page turner with decent characters and a good story.
Disadvantages: You won't get much sleep till it's finished
...Being somewhat of a Laymon fan I would recommend to anyone thinking of reading his books - do yourselves a favour and start with this one as I did.
The story is set in a creepy run down American seaside town where the local youths get their kicks by beating up and torturing the homeless population which plagues the tourist trade. Lamon's novel follows the new kid in town; Jeremy as he is drawn into the gang of youngsters as they stalk the streets and beaches at night in search of the victims they call trolls, their violence getting more brutal with each attack. This being Lamon of course you just know the gang aren't going to get things all their own way!
This novel ticks all the boxes for every Laymon fan i've ever spoken to - he has an uncanny knack of making us care about his characters and there's always the chance...

Not Laymon's Best
Review of Bite - Richard Laymon by
Claire102
Advantages: quite fast moving
Disadvantages: totally unrealistic
...The plot to 'Bite' is a bit weird. It starts when Sam is asked by Cat (his one true love, whom he hasn't seen for years) asks Sam to help her kill a vampire. Once done they decide to bury the body some place far away from home, which leads into their adventure, meeting lots of strange characters and almost getting killed in every chapter. Despite the ridiculous storyline, the book is still entertaining although it is not as good as other books by Richard Laymon. It is quite a short book by Laymon's standards although if it had been any longer it probably would have dragged. Bite is not at all scary although it was suspenseful. I love Richard Laymon's style of writing and would recommend any of his books. The characters were nothing special and I didn't really like Cat. Bite is not one of his best, but it is pretty average and worth being...

missed Laymon, you missed a treat alright!!
Review of The Cellar - Richard Laymon by
sparkymarky1973
Advantages: blood, gore, monsters and a spooky mueseum owner-what else do you need?
Disadvantages: great start to a series of novels about the Beast House
....Certainly it is not as polished as his later work but,as a big fan of Richard Laymon,I can honestly say that even at his less than best he was still better than many authors and there was not a single one of his books I haven't enjoyed.
If you like b-movies,fearsome monsters, plenty of thrills and chills and a nice little twist in the ending-pick this up!!
If at all squeamish and easily scared-don't read it with the lights off!!
And don't go down to The Cellar.....Most of Richard Laymon's novels are available at all good book shops or I have seen them on the net starting from £5.59.Many of his works have also become available in omnibus editions too so you can read more than one of his books at once!!...
