The soul of Prague
Review of Prague in general by
Autumn-Swallow
Advantages: Fantastic music
Disadvantages: non
...Music, music, this is the only impression that is deeply stamped in my memory after my first visit to Prague a couple of years ago.
Prague is the city of music. Plenty of concerts, musicals and operas, huge or small, everyday everywhere. It seems like Prague will not be alive without music! It is the soul of Prague. i believe that many locals are well 'musically' educated as i find that many locals carry a musical instrument in their hands, especially violin.
Further more, the tickets are relatively cheap as compared to England and the performers are very profesional. I generously give thumb ups to all the concerts and operas that I have been to. This is what we want, isn't it? Especially for budget travellers like myself.
Besides, there are lots of music shops where you can find good quality musical instruments and scores. And I...

kafka?
Review of Castle, Prague by
lewiscrofts
Advantages: lots
Disadvantages: none
...it is impossible that kafka was thinking of this place when he wrote of the oppressive castle in his novel of the same name. the prague castle is quite simply exquisite. if you take the time to clmb up you will see some awesome sights, having the best view of pargue down below, furthermore there is a great church on the top and if you hang aroundlong enough you willsee the changing of the guard, which is well worth the wait. here is the real tourists part, everything clean and prim, but don't be fooled down in the town is where the real prague is to be seen....

Best Restaurant in Prague?
Review of Oakwell, Prague by
oakwell
Advantages: Exquisite Food
Disadvantages: Formal, high prices for Prague
...We had the advantage of visiting Circle Line on a business conference and had the resturant recommended by Czech hosts. The card says 'best restaurant in Prague' and I'm not going to argue. Elegant and formal inside, it's on the castle side of the river on Malostanske Namesti 12 (tel 575300 21-3) so may be quite hard to find (take a taxi).
Prices are high for Prague - budget on around £25 to £30 per head - but it's amongst the top 3 restaurants I have eaten in ever, worldwide. Simply exquisite food and service in a french style. Not huge portions but beautifully presented. If this restaurant was in London it would be in the Sunday Times every week!
For a special occasion in Prague book ahead for this one....

Unbelievable
Review of Prague in general by
Aquila
Advantages: One of the world's great cities.
Disadvantages: Remnants of the communist system still to be found.
...There's absolutely no-where quite like Prague.
This city survived the 2nd world war without getting splattered, and survived the age of concrete monstrosity building more or less untouched. Its the gem in a country with some mighty fine city architecture, and outshines Cracow, its nearest rival.
In many ways Prague is high culture - opera and organ recitals, galleries and a central European cafe culture. But its also a city that is alive. The streets buzz at all hours. There's a great mix of nationalities, and a sense that this city is going places - away from communism, and into a much brighter future.
Tourists tend to put prices up, but Prague is still cheap in western terms....

Prague is such a picturesque city
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
bazza1603
Advantages: Cheap place to visit.Far nicer than expected
Disadvantages: Language not easy to understand or speak. But most speak english
...I visited Prague in March 2000 with my girlfriend. We arrived in Prague after a 3 hour flight from the UK via Amsterdam for £150 incl tax ex Newcastle. The journey time time to the city with a Limo whcih we booked with our hotel , took 30 minutes and cost only £12.00 plus TIP.I would recommend booking the limo service if possible, as taxis in Prague can be expensive as unscrupulous drivers can charge toursits what they feel like.
Prague is a very compact city, and therefore I would not recommend hiring a car. Most of Prague is connected on a tram system which is beneficial way of traveling. You can buy a tree day ticket whcih is also valid on the bus and underground for only £3.00.You can also walk around Prague , but beware of the banks...they are steep than they look!!!!Or is it just we being unfit??The clime to the top is worth...

Prague - delights and dangers
Review of Prague in general by
Okocha
Advantages: Beer, Food, Architecture, Price
Disadvantages: Dangerous in certain areas, becoming over-visited
...Prague is a growing city for tourism and rightly so as it is a superb attraction. From my experience there a few years ago, it is important to highlight a couple of factors which i feel important.
TRAVEL
U Concheta Prossem Vistu Panastu Cuduvetish Ameerai!
I have no idea what it means either but you will be fascinated by the phrase whilst travelling on the excellently efficient Metro system, trying to learn all the station names including Opotov, which, no matter what the weather, has the fiercest wind ever to strike you when you exit from the station. It is very easy to find your way around the city
DELIGHTS
The delights of Prague are well known, beautiful architecture, Wenceslus Square, friendly locals, variety of hotels. Make sure you take in the lovely Old Town and enjoy the view from the castle on a hill.
There a lot...

The most beautiful place in Europe
Review of Prague in general by
Marie
Advantages: Absolutely beautiful
Disadvantages: Lots of people handing leaflets for concerts etc!
...I visited Prague last November - perhaps the wrong time to visit weather wise - I think Christmas with snow would be better than Summer - where the temperatures rise to the extreme.
The drive in to Prague from the Airport didn't look promising - the whole area looked run down and tired.
However, when we ventured out from checking into our hotel, we wondered around the city and marvelled at the beautiful Architecture and the very cosmopolitian atmosphere of the City.
The castle overlooks the whole City and the whole place has a wonderful ambience - it doesn't feel like youre in Europe!
The food and drink is incredibly cheap - you just try the mulled wine which all the street vendors sell and the dumplings are a must!...

Prague Castle - Review (visited in July 2004)
Review of Prague Castle by
peppermintangel
Advantages: An amazing, breathtaking site... a must see
Disadvantages: We visited in the summer, so very hot whilst walking around the largest ancient castle in the world!!
...Earlier this year I visited Prague for the second time, during this visit, I spent a day at the immense Prague Castle (Pra˛skż Hrad).
Towering above the city of Prague from its cliff-top outlook, Prague castle contains 1000 years of history, from its beginnings as a simple walled-in compound in the 9th century, its now breathtaking scale that qualifies it as the biggest ancient castle in the world. This title justified by the following figures: 570m long, an average of 128m wide and occupying 7.28 hectares.
As you enter the front gate under two monumental statues of battling Titans, you are able to grasp the huge scope on which this vast complex is set. The site includes a palace, three churches, royal stables, a monastery and the surrounding gardens.
Inside the castle grounds is the magnificent and huge St Vitus cathedral. Entrance...

Czech this out
Review of Prague (Czech Republic) by
carolinecook2000
Advantages: so different
Disadvantages: none
...Winter is an ideal time for a short break in Prague – no crowds and everything looking all the more attractive for the covering of snow. Taxis from the airport to the centre of Prague are inexpensive and regulated by the authorities. Despite our driver’s poor English he made a valiant attempt to communicate and point out things of interest en route. Eating out is also cheap as are entrance fees to museums etc. There is lots to do in Prague – the Old Town, the Jewish Quarter, the Castle, The Little Quarter and the New Town. Try to take in a concert too or a trip to the opera – again unbelievably cheap. Our favourite, however, was the Pinkas Synagogue, sobering though it was. Dating back to the fifteenth century it has been rebuilt many times in its history. It now acts as a memorial to the Czech Jews who were imprisoned in the Terezin...

Where are our bags
Review of Czech Airlines by
iainkay1
Advantages: great airline
Disadvantages: baggage handling
...We arrived at our respective home destinations last night having received an upgrade that was very welcome indeed. Our major concern is that all our luggage delays seem to have been at the same source even though Janine Hunter and myself travelled from Dublin via London , our bags were missed from the connection even though there was 1hour and 50 mins between flights and were x-rayed by Air France at 05.55am the following morning. My sister after waiting 1hour and 30 mins to check in was called forward as the flight was closing and this was the reason for the missing luggage as well having no time to shop or make it a comfortable start to a holiday.
On our 4 day visit to Prague a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes of phone calls to you baggage department in Prague, shopping for essential items to tide us over before any luggage arrived...
