a change to pop rock... not a bad decision
Review of Stabbing Westward by  Impey

Advantages: Great combo of songs with amazing lyrics
Disadvantages: NONE!

...All i can really say is... WOW!... but don't be fooled by the cover, this isn't SW as you may know them... SW have changed the style of their music from industrial rock, evident in the brilliant "Darkest Days", to a brighter more melodic approach that could be classed as pop rock. However don't mistake this for a 'normal' pop rock album... tacky and too pop (bon jovi style)... SW have managed to keep a hint of the darkness of their industrial days whilst creating a more musical 'pop' album. With Christopher Hall on vocals nothing can go wrong... he proves yet again that he has an amazing voice which just seems to get better and better from album to album. The lyrics are also as brilliant as Hall's voice, enchanting and frequently beautiful. My Favourite songs are "So Far Away", "Wasted", "I Remember" and "Angel" but I can't say I... Read review

Coco Pops Rocks From Kellogg's
Review of Kelloggs Coco Pops Coco Rocks by  newby2

Advantages: Coco Pops Rocks From Kellogg's
Disadvantages: Coco Pops Rocks From Kellogg's

...Coco Pops Rocks From Kellogg’s Cereal is something I love and I seem to go through boxes of the stuff. I can find that getting the same old sort is rather tiresome and I usually try and try newly released products or ones that are on special offer and I have yet to try. These Coco Pops Rocks were on special offer in Tesco’s a few weeks ago and I think it was something like £2.50 pence for two boxes. They are smaller than most boxes but they are rather heavy and contain a lot of “Rocks” inside. They are fairly new out on to the market and no one I knew had tried them yet so I thought I would give them ago. These chocolate flavoured breakfast cereals I always find rather expensive and no always the best thing to be eating first thing in the morning. I do like to snack on them throughout the day or evening so I don’t mind... Read review

Coco pops creations
Review of Kellogg's Coco Pops Creations by  richcoolkid

Advantages: Kids love it, very tasty
Disadvantages: Maybe too much sugar

...Just when we thought they couldn't possibly think of more ideas, they blow us away with their new inventive idea. Coco Pops creations is all the coco pops cereals together in one pack, but in seperate boxes so that different creations can be made in the cereal and kids can have fun eating their breakfast at the same time; All these varieties of coco pops are very tasty. Very chocolatey. I myself couldnt resist it. The pack contains, coco pops original, coco pops rocks, coco pops crunchers and coco pops munchers. I have little brothers and sisters and they love this product. They can't get enoughof it! However, what people should do, is put some coco pops of each variety in 4 bowls and give that to the children, because if you give the whole thing to them, they might eat too much of it and also make a mess! The packaging The way... Read review

Rock FM...no Pop FM
Review of 97.4 - Preston by  polomonsteruk

Advantages: FM quality broadcasts
Disadvantages: "Rock" would be a misuse of the word

...Living in Lancashire the main local radio station listened to is probably Rock FM, and from its name it would sound a good station for me to listen to with my taste in music (i.e. rock) however if I do tune in and listen, as I do at work (its not my decision what we listen to) I find that this station with the word rock in its title plays music as far from that genre as is physically possible. In the time I listen to the station on a weekly basis I probably hear about 2 rock songs in total, and these are the most commercial, pop orientated rock songs currently available. The main focus of the radio station seems to me to be in the dance, R 'n' B and pop areas of music, none of which genres appear in the radio stations name... If thats the type of music you like then "Rock" FM is a good radio station for you to listen to, but for me, im... Read review

An Album to Crow About
Review of Rooster - Rooster by  Soho_Black

Advantages: Some very decent pop-rock tracks
Disadvantages: The ballads need a little more work

...and a rasp to the vocals and it's edging well into pop rock territory again. There are moments where it sounds a little like Free, others where they could almost be Thunder, but that the vocals aren't quite good enough. Once again with this track, Rooster prove that they're at their best when they're rocking out. Another Free influenced bluesy guitar riff opens "She Don't Make Me Feel". The vocals are a little thin in some points, but this is old style pop-rock music of the highest order. It's not the instant classic song it could be, but it's certainly a darned good effort and I keep expecting Paul Rodger's voice to come in after every break. There's still time for one last ballad and "Angels Calling" is it. It's again largely acoustic, but they pick up the volume a little more in the chorus, so saving it from descending into the realms... Read review

Meaningful Rock
Review of Let Go - Avril Lavigne by  sajjadali

Advantages: Great Songs
Disadvantages: Might seem abit sameish to some

...and gentle chorus seems perfect for the genre of music, and the style of this song. ''Skater Boi'' is an excellent track. Very rocky, and with a very fast and nicely catchy beat, this is quite good in some terms. This seems well written, and is well sang. ''I'm With You'' is a very gentle and nice pop ballad. Vocals are very gentle and mellow as is the music. The song is very good, it is well written. A nice and catchy chorus yet again, but is very slow - this is a very good song. ''Mobile'' is quite a good rock track. Avril shows her voice in this song, it is well written with a very nice chorus, this is good listening. ''Unwanted'' is more pop than, rock - it is is nice sounding and is defintley well written. A good chorus and Avril sings well. Production on this song is quite good too. ''Tommorrow'' is a very good rock track. Avril sings... Read review

Review of Live Twice - Darius by  sajjadali

Advantages: Great tracks
Disadvantages: May seem abit sameish to some

The song is generally very catchy. The song is very good. ''Only You'' is a pop and rock track. Darius sings well, the music is good. The lyrics are quite meaningful, a very catchy chorus - very good. ''Love To Love'' is generally a very fast pop rock track. The chorus is very catchy and fast. The song is very good, musically it is very catchy. Darius sings really well and this greatly produced - the loud and gentle drums are very in tune with the song - well produced. ''Journey's End'' is a nice and gentle ballad. This is slightly pop as well, the lyrics are meaning and Darius sings again with meaning and passion. Very good. ''Devil In You'' is a jazzy pop... Defintley worth trying!
Review of Try This [ECD] - Pink by  sajjadali

Advantages: Great selection of tracks
Disadvantages: Might seem abit repetititve to some.

...is a pop song. The chorus is outstanding. The lyrics are great, especially the chorus and the verses. Very catchy and very soulful pop. ''Try Too Hard'' is a very nice, loud rock track. It is quite poppy, rocky, soulful and jazzy - The chorus is very loud like the backing music. Very nice listening. ''Humble Neighbourhood'' is a excellent song, very nice listening. The backing music is very loud and makes the song catchy. A very soulful, rock track. I like listening to this, the production again on this track is really good. ''Walk Away'' is a nice pop ballad. The song is very meaningful, very reflective and deep. The light drums, guitar, piano and saxaphone make this song very good to listen to. Great verses, and a Great catchy chorus. ''Unwind'' is very rocky and jazzy. This song is very well produced, the verses are catchy... Read review

Ten Shades of Grey
Review of Black And White - Terraplane by  Soho_Black

Advantages: You can see how the band evolved into Thunder
Disadvantages: Moe pop and AOR influenced than Thunder are

...that was Thunder's main sound. The synthesiser intro to "I Can't Live Without Your Love" makes me think of some early Little Angels tune. Once the track gets going, though, it gets more of a Thunder feel, with Danny's vocals rising above the music for the first time and the song being more of a pop-rock number again. Thunder were known for their ballads and "Talking to Myself" is maybe where it all started. Unfortunately, there isn't the stadium rock glory of "Love Walked In" or the lyrical sweetness of "Numb" or "History in the Making" here. Indeed, the piano intro sounds like any pop ballad going and that's a theme that continues, although it does get a little rockier later on, but it could be any pop or pop-rock ballad, as there's very little that's distinctive here. On the plus side, you can hear Danny's vocals a lot better, which were one... Read review

Idol Worship
Review of Greatest Hits - Billy Idol by  Soho_Black

Advantages: Some decent power-pop tunes
Disadvantages: No new and original material

.... While Green Day look like the old hands because they've been around long enough to have a Greatest Hits album, no-one really thinks about how punk-pop got started. Even if they did, I'm sure most of today's Good Charlotte fans would look at me as if I were mad should I tell them that the sound their idols play first came out of New York in 1983, in the hands of a man from Sussex. Unlike a lot of today's acts who see power pop as a way to makes sales, Billy Idol wasn't just out for a quick buck. Having been a fan of the Sex Pistols, he was in a punk band, Generation X, who had a few hits in the 1970s. Unfortunately, his love of 1960s pop music meant he didn't fit in so well and so when the band split, he moved to New York and found a way to combine his punk music past with a love rock 'n' roll and see what happened. Despite nearly dying... Read review
