LE AVERAGE
Review of Le Meridien Russell Square Hotel, London by
LostWitness
Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Cack hotel
...When we recently had a team meeting in London, a friend of mine was given the task of arranging somewhere to eat and I was tasked with finding somewhere to sleep. This was good news because I got to choose a hotel that was convenient for me. Selfish, aren’t I? Oh well.
WHY I CHOSE LE MERIDIEN RUSSELL
Although I do occasionally venture out further, I tend to book hotels that are close to Euston or King’s Cross railway stations because this is where most of my team arrive by train and because all our company buildings are that side of town. The last time I was in town, I stayed in the Holiday Inn in Bloomsbury, which certainly isn’t bad after its refit, but I was unable to get seven rooms for the date I had in mind. Over on www.laterooms.com I spotted a discount in Le Meridien, Russell Square from £220 per night to £89. This, of course...

Cream teas and fireplaces
Review of Virginia Woolf's Lounge, London by
Angua2
Advantages: Few people know about it
Disadvantages: Slightly outside central London - WC1
...This place has to remain our little secret!
I can't remember if this was always called "The Virginia Woolf Lounge", it is situated on the ground floor of the Hotel Russell on Russell Square, but being in the heart of Bloomsbury, it's a great name. Before the hotel was done up (they reportedly spent £20m on it), built in the late 1900's it had a kind shabby charm, with worn out leather sofa's and yellowing paint on the high ceilings. (Thankfully, they haven't overly modernised this lounge (just redecorated).) But they've always had what we always go in there for, a really great cream tea.
I'm referring to a proper cream tea, the kind that you generally have to share between 2 as there's no way to finish it yourself (just order an extra pot of tea). Along with a small pot of tea, it includes the usual classic cucumber sandwiches etc...

Olde Fashioned Hospitality?
Review of Russell Hotel, London by
helencbradshaw
Advantages: Location, good special deal room rate, large rooms, high standard accommodation, guest services
Disadvantages: F&B may be a little expensive
...The Hotel Russell, situated along one side of Russell Square in the Bloomsbury area of the city was to be my home for my recent short break in the capital. Being in the hotel industry myself, I don't like to pay a fortune for hotels and I booked the hotel about two months prior to our arrival and managed to secure two double/twin rooms at the rate of £85 per room per night, through a contact. However this special rate was also available on the website, and so is achievable. Given that this rate included breakfast, seemed to be a luxurious four star hotel but at a price not dissimilar to some of the budget accommodation in London, was in walking distance of the theatre district which was the main reason for our trip and because Covent Garden/Leicester Square were also a stone's throw away, we decided to book and indulge.
The hotel...

A diamond in the rough.
Review of Holiday Inn London - Kings Cross / Bloomsbury, London by
eduardob
Advantages: Location, cost, facilities.
Disadvantages: Immediate area is twin towned with Beirut
...would advise a cab.
I have found that they are friendly and efficient, when travelling on business or on pleasure with a young family. Adjoining rooms can be arranged (we stayed with myself, my wife, 9 month old baby and in the adjoining room two other daughters under 11 - it was as near as you can get to having an apartment for hire in central London).
On to the location - though Kings Cross is poor, you are only 5 minutes from Russell Square, and less than 15 minutes by cab to Leicester Square (China Town, Soho, Trafalgar Square, etc) so if you are training it down to the big city, I can highly recommend it.
If you are driving, then car parking is going to set you back around £30 / day at an NPC near to the hotel so do take this into consideration (as well as London congestion charges) if you are visiting.
The only fly in the ointment...

City Sanctuary
Review of Russell Square (London) by
radiation_vibe
Advantages: Beautiful, peaceful, calm and good transport links
Disadvantages: N/A
...Russell Square is one of my favourite parks in London. Living very close to it from the very beginning of my life I have seen the park undergo a wide range of changes. I can still remember smelling the beautiful roses in the summer, sitting among leaves in the autumn, making snowballs in the winter and picking up worms in the spring.
Located in the heart of the West End, this park is the ideal relaxing spot for people of all ages. Situated close to universities (SOAS, LSE, UCL, St Martins Art College), many London tourist sites (British Museum, British Library, Euston Station…) and businesses the park is generally always alive and buzzing with activity (unless of course its raining – no one will be sitting down on the benches but there will always be the pigeons and people walking through the park). Even in the early hours...

IT TAKES MORE THAN A TROUSER PRESS TO IMPRESS
Review of Le Meridien Russell Square Hotel, London by
tartantribe
Advantages: Central, discounted rate
Disadvantages: Dingy dump of a room, poor service
...scouring the internet for cheap online hotel discounts. Imagine my delight when I managed to secure a room in the 4 star Le Meridien Russell Square. This is in the Bloomsbury district, and I had read this was a nice area. From all appearances, the hotel was central, classy looking and within yards from a tube station. For a mere £63, a double room with en suite could be all ours, surrounded by 4 star luxury. I was elated when I discovered the normal rate was usually around £100 a night on the weekend.
I have never stayed in any of the other Le Meridien hotels, but I gathered they are a chain. Still, this place looked as though it had style and character, or at least so the website indicated- certainly more charm than a Travelodge or similar.
I was looking forward to views of Russell Square, comfortable lounges and cozy bars, and all...

HOLIDAY INN BLOOMSBURY LONDON STAY
Review of Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury, London by
Wisegirl
Advantages: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Disadvantages: None
...My family and I stayed here recently from Wed 11th-Sun15th April 2007 on a three day advance deal with full breakfast included. We were two adults and two children and it cost £116 on the Wed and Thurs Nights and £107 the Frid and Sat nights. On arrival we were upgraded at no extra charge to an executive room on the top(6th) Floor. I am a Priority Club member (register free for this on www.priorityclub.com) so maybe this helped with the upgrade. Check in was 2pm and even though we arrived an hour earlier we were allocated the room straight way.
Where this hotel wins hands down is its LOCATION in the Russell Square area just a couple of minutes from the tube(2stops + to the West End) and a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to the West End. The local surroundings were pleasant with a shopping centre including a Sushi Bar, Waitrose, Juice...

B&B perks at a big chain hotel in Phoenix
Review of Embassy Suites Hotel North, Phoenix by
ajfoster
Advantages: Excellent hotel for small-scale conventions; spacious; love the full-scale breakfast, happy hour, fridge and microwave
Disadvantages: No ghosts, a corporate hotel
...pools in Phoenix, separate children's pool, fitness center, whirlpool, & lighted tennis court. We offer free parking, National Car Rental desk, complimentary newspaper, gift shop, room service, guest laundry & valet dry-cleaning service. More than 15,000 square feet of versatile meeting facilities accommodating up to 400 people for meetings & 500 for receptions. Our experienced Sales & Catering Team are ready to assist you down to the last detail."
This was my second trip to this hotel and I stayed for two nights. Reserving the room was a breeze, and using the convention code, I received a good room rate. Opportunities to sample EVERYTHING the hotel had to offer never arose, but I'm happy to touch on those that I did.
Just one right turn off the Greenway ramp of Highway 17, it is convenient and easy to find. Unfortunately, miscalculating...

AKIN TO "Nice Legs, Shame about the Face"......
Review of Radisson Edwardian Kenilworth Hotel, London by
sue.51
Advantages: Very convenient location, free high speed wireless internet throughout, comfortable beds
Disadvantages: Single rooms VERY small, food choice limited and expensive, doesn't strike me as the safest of areas at night
...OK, maybe not quite, but you'll hopefully get the gist
A rare requirement to stay in central London; we had a location and needed to find a hotel nearby. I identified Jury's in Great Russell Street, unfortunately it was outside our budget, and we were offered two close alternatives the Russell Hotel or the Radisson Edwardian Kenilworth. Now, possibly naively, I had always associated Radisson with upmarket outlets, but had never stayed in any. Although we did have a drink in the R E Hampshire in Leicester Square, and at just under £10 for two cokes and a lemonade, well if money means quality, then it would be OK, wouldn't it?

Great place for some bedroom Olympics
Review of Russell Hotel, London by
paule23
Advantages: Large room, exfoliating shower, work area
Disadvantages: Exorbitant internet costs, no gym
...The Russell Hotel is a large, imposing, renaissance style hotel located, yup you guessed it, just opposite Russell Square in London (imaginative these hoteliers eh!).
I stayed here on business a couple of weeks ago so I can't say I had much say in the choice, although having been told where I was staying and had a good browse around the website, I must say I was quite pleased with the choice, the only question was would the hotel live up to expectations (and price!)
First impressions were definitely good. The hotel is absolutely huge, and looks very impressive on the way in. You go up several steps, past the doorman into a fabulous foyer/lobby/entrance hall (please let me know what these things are supposed to be called, I'm so confused!). There is lots of marble, lots of plants, lots of gold (or gold paint...) and most surprising...
