...19 January 2000 Saturday Night Fever London Palladium £10.00 I went to see Saturday Night Fever last January on a school trip to the West End. We went to the London Palladium where is was being shown. We went to a matinee performance so it was cheaper and as a child I got the ticket for the price of £10. I expect it is much more expensive for an evening performance. Saturday Night was a film and was made into a Musical. The show is set in 1979 and is in New York City (Brooklyn and Manhattan). Most of the music featured in the show is written by the Bee Gee's. ...Channel 5 used to be known for tacky tv and sex shows, but this show has been with channel 5 right from the start, and rightly so. The show basically a karaoke show with celebrites doing the singing, and even having to do some duets in the name of entertainment. The show is a simple concept but also absolutely hilarious, where else can you see les battersby singing 'We're going to ibiza' on a saturday night?! The show is presented by Suggs (from madness fame) who does a fantastic job keeping the male celebs apart from the female celebs, since night fever (apparently) is the ultimate battle of the sexes. This is definetly a good show to be on when your getting ready for your saturday night on the town!... Read review

...Travolta....... great performances by Travolta and Newton John, as well as by Stockard Channing who plays Danny's ex girlfriend Rizzo. In SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Travolta plays 19 year oldTony Manero who loves dancing at the club on Saturday nights (hence the title!). Tony meets Stephanie and they begin to train together with the hopes of winning the dance competition at the night club. Stephanie has high expectations in life and Tony soon begins to have bigger dreams for himself. This is generally a great feel good movie set to the music of the Bee Gees but there are also some very moving scenes involving suicide. This is the film that unsurprisingly catapulted Travolta to stardom - he is fantastic in this movie! A must see for any fan of his work. ...Dig out those Hot Pants and Flares, and get yourself along to the Bristol Hippodrome as the Fever is back. That classic story from the hit movie has been brought to the stage. After storming London at the Palladium, Night Fever is docking in Bristol to give the fever to a new generation.   The show focuses on the life of Tony Manero, perfectly played by David Sellings, with his strong voice and finely toned body, you easily forget John Travolta. ...Not in the least bit serious, this one of the many programmes on Channel 5 that are cheesey, its just that this one is meant to be ! Usually featuring some great looking women, as well as some seriously cheesy tunes to sing along to its some decent light hearted entertainment to enjoy on a Saturday night before you head out on the beer. Although the Disco Monkey could do with being given the boot ! Definately a lot better than bloody Stars in their Eyes anyway, and a lot more fun to boot !... Read review

...Ever wondered what happened to that Emmerdale barmaid from two years ago or that hunk in the dairylea advert - well I could have the answer. Celebs such as these can be found rehashing classic pop on channel Five early Saturday evening. Sounds appalling I know but it is strangely addictive. The tunes performed are those we all sing along to after a drink or two, I talking Dancing Queen, Don't Blame it on the Boogie - you get the picture. It's a boys v girls set up with scores being awarded on individual effort and performance, and some singers are surprizingly good. My reccomendation - open that bottle of wine and prepare for your Saturday night out in the company of ringmmaster Suggs and ten "stars" you can't quite put a name too! Great fun.... Read review

...Night Fever is on Channel 5 from 6:50pm til 7:45pm on Saturdays. It is great fun to watch, as it looks as if the people involved are loving every minute too. It is masterfully presented by Madness frontman and long-time stalwart of pop music, Suggs. He is assisted by the rather annoying Danielle Nichols of CITV fame. The show is basically a boys versus girls karaoke competition, where teams of often B-rated celebs compete against each other. Occasionally, you get someone interesting, but let's face it, you're more likely to get Kirsten O' Brien from CBBC or someone you vaguely recognise from an Australian soap opera. But this is Channel 5 after all and I doubt the budget for this programme is very high. If I am to be truely honest, it's the Golden Seventies Disco Classics that really get me dancing, and by now "You should be Dancing". *Stayin Alive *NightFever These songs are purely, unquestionably classics, thrust into that music hall of fame with a little help from that white suited, slick moving, young John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever". Other notible energetic classics such as "Tragedy" (covered by Steps), "More than a Woman", "Jive Talkin" and "You Win Again" will undoubtedly keep you dancing or foot tapping with sheer delight. On a more personal note, and sad note, the CD also contains a special tribute track to the late Maurice Gibb. The track is appropriately titled, "Man in the Middle". ...18 January 2000 The Lion King Lyceum Theatre, London £20 I went to see The Lion King last year with my school on one of the school trips to london. We went and saw two musicals; Saturday Night Fever and The Lion King. The Lion King is being shown at The Lyceum Theatre in the West End of London and has been for the past year. The actors and Actresses aren't dressed up as animals but they are in a way. They have hats that are like an animal but you still see the actors face. Their make up is brilliant and they look so professional. The story hasn't been changed like some of the musicals do, so you already know the story if you have seen the Disney film. The Actors / Actresses all have amazing voices and they are very clear so if you are sitting high up you can still see very well. I thought this was the best Musical around... Read review

...This hilarious spoof movie makes fun of the whole Airport series of films, and also has fun at quite a few other classics such as Saturday Night Fever. The air hostess Elaine and Ted Striker have to fly the plane after the crew any many passengers get food poisoning from the fish meal. The crew of Captain Oveur, Victor and Roger all collapse and the plane is destined to crash. In such a serious scenario the whole film is just one joke after another. A lot of the jokes are based on other films and although you may not appreciate every funny line there are so many that you find yourself laughing out loud over and over again at this very funny movie. Lesley Neilson is brilliant as the doctor on the plane and delivers some of the best lines, as he always does, “but that’s not important right now”. This is only a short... Read review
