Scotland Yard - Clever and fun strategy game
Review of Scotland Yard by
EVIT
Advantages: great strategy game, very entertaining
Disadvantages: few flaws, could have had miniatures instead of pins
...Scotland Yard is an excellent strategy game which gives plenty of hours of fun.
I've wanted to try this game since I was a kid but I could never convince myself to spend so much on a board game. As a matter of fact this game is usually VERY expensive but lately has went down in price a little. I found it used for 5 quids. When I spotted it I grabbed it hard.
The gameplay consists in a player, Mr. X, that has to escape from Scotland Yard detectives all through London using taxi, busses, underground and he can only be seen every once in a while.
It can be played from 3 to 6 players (meaning 2 up to 5 detectives on the board versus Mr. X). The gameplay last less than an hour but it's intense! For the detectives, sometimes could be frustrating when Mr. X disappears from under their noses but I'll get to that later...
The concept...

Short and sweet
Review of Huntly Golf Club by
kimborob
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...Huntly is a small farming town in the north east of Scotland. Situated about 35 miles north west of Aberdeen on the A96 and about 70 miles east of Inverness. Although quite short and not too difficult, this course is an interesting and challenging parkland style par 67 which should prove a fair test of golf for all standards of golfer. It is extremely well kept and its members and greenkeeping staff should be proud of it.
HISTORY OF HUNTLY GOLF CLUB
Huntly Golf Club was formed on 28 November 1892. The original course was built on four fields known as the Castle Parks, adjacent to Huntly Castle and leased to the Club for a very favourable sum by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon.
The Course was ready for play in March 1893, but part of the lease agreement was that golf would only be played in the winter months. By 1890, the club...

A Jewel in the Crown
Review of Tain Golf Club by
kimborob
Advantages: Open all year, excellent course, not too expensive
Disadvantages: That north wind!!
...Tain golf course, I believe, is a hidden jewel in the North of Scotland, often overlooked for Royal Dornoch which is a near neighbour.
Tain overlooks the Dornoch Firth in a beautiful setting in the highlands with a backdrop of mountains on one side and the sea on the other, ideal for a round of golf on a beautifully kept, very challenging links course. It is only 35 miles from Inverness, making it very accessible to visitors and there are numerous hotels and guest houses in the area including some top class hotels.
The course itself is a Tom Morris design, built in 1890 - 6404 yards long (SSS 70 mens medals, 73 for women) with some very interesting and some very difficult holes. It is a challenge to all standards of golfer. Its sheltered location below the town of Tain ensures a decent amount of shelter from the elements all year...

A Hidden Jewel
Review of Tain Golf Club by
kimborob
Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: Fairly difficult course
...Tain golf course, I believe, is a hidden jewel in the North of Scotland, often overlooked for Royal Dornoch which is near neighbour but in my opinion, not such a fabulous course.

Quite complicated, but worth the time
Review of 221b Baker street by
Wraith
Advantages: Great fun, Exciting, Well Designed
Disadvantages: Limited number of missions
...In the interactive age of computers, it is rare to find a board game that is so engrossing, so addictive, so exciting. The basic idea of the game is simple; visit locations on the board, such as Hotel, Theatre and Docks, read the clues found there, piece together the crime, and return to 221b Baker Street to unmask the culprit before any of the other sleuths.
Some of the locations hold more valuable clues than others. For instance, if in the story the body was found at the docks, the docks might hold an important clue, whereas the Tobbacionist may not give any important information at all. Players can lock useful locations using special Police tokens obtained from the Scotland Yard Location, and unlock these using Key tokens from the locksmith. But they can also use these to draw other players off the scent, locking places...

Peace for a couple of hours!
Review of Agent Cody Banks 2 - Destination London DVD by
crazysue1
Advantages: Good entertainment for Children
Disadvantages: Not completely believeable.
...This DVD is a follow on from the original Cody Banks which my children did enjoy. The original film portrayed the life of a child CIA agent and the scrapes and cases he worked on and this film is a follow on.
The story is set in London after Cody was sent on assignment to find an errant former agent who had nasty plans up his sleeve to take over the world with the aid of a device implanted in World Leaders that made them do his bidding.
Cody's cover means he has to go to a musical school where there just so happens to be a Scotland Yard agent (also undercover but a lot better musician!)
Fun and games entail including the use of a brace that transmits, sweets that explode and other Spy items and eventually Cody's cover is blown.
Hysterical scenes then follow with the usual smart fights, comical dialogue and of course the required...

the breakfast show
Review of SCOT FM by
paulcal
Advantages: It makes you laugh and brightens up your early mornings, so if you grumble about getting up early in the morning then dont! Just tune into the show and it will keep you smiling.
Disadvantages: The show only lasts 3 hours.
...For me the best radio station in Scotland has to be Scot-FM on 100.3 & 101.1, if you live in the east or west of Scotland then you are a very lucky person because this means you can pick up scotlands biggest variety of hits Scot-FM.
The Breakfast Show 6am - 9am, Mon - Fri.
The breakfast show on scot-fm is hosted by Robin Galloway and is just superb. On the breakfast show you can hear the stunning travel girl Janna Ramos (see her picture at www.scot-fm.com).
But besides Janna you can also guarantee yourself a laugh from Robin or Old Mrs Galloway on the wind up phone calls. Hector Brockelbank could also make you laugh with his incredible fish deliviries and his big cock......which of course is his farm yard friend, or the ever so popular Cecil and Sandy the hair stylists, who's salon is located at 69 Balshagmay avenue.
Of course...

Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea
Review of Royal Dornoch Golf Club by
rawduu
Advantages: Beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Too remote to be an Open venue
...Location: Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland
Opened: Unknown
Designer: Anonymous
Yardage: 6,577
Par: 70
Major events: British Amateur 1985
If it were not so remote, 60 miles north of Inverness, Dornoch would surely be a British Open venue. It is one of the most beautiful courses anywhere, as well as one of the oldest. Indeed it may have a claim to be the birthplace of the game.
No one knows when golf was first played here, but it was known by 1630 when Sir Robert Gordon wrote: “About this town along the sea coast are the fairest and the largest links of green fields of any pairt of Scotland. From archery, golfing, ryding and all other exercises, they doe surpass the fields of Montrose or St Andrews.”
There is an even earlier reference to this cathedral city which, in size, is little more than a village. A 1616 account book...

Gateway To Loch Lomond And The Trossachs
Review of Cardross Golf Club by
the_mad_cabbie
Advantages: See text of opinion
Disadvantages: See text of opinion
...~ ~ I’ve been promising my cousin’s husband (who’s a long time member) that I’d write a review of this fine Scottish golf club, Cardross, that sits on the estuary of the River Clyde near the town of Dumbarton, and just off the main A814 road from Glasgow to Helensburgh. (So this one is just for you Jim!)
We are fairly regular visitors to the area, as we usually pop in to visit my cousin whenever we make a trip to Scotland, and I can always be certain that Jim has got a game of golf organised for me here at this fine parkland course.
~ ~ It’s had plenty of time to mature, as it first opened for play way back in 1895, and was designed by the famous Scottish golfer and golf course architect James Braid. (although I’m not even sure if they called them architects way back then!)
By modern standards it...

Penguinchickalata's Poetic Challenge
Review of Everything that starts with P ... by
SarahP
Advantages: I'm being daft again
Disadvantages: I'm being daft again
...I thought I would have a bash.... basically it is a poem with the words genesis, energy, penguin, berry and yard in....
***********************************
As I sat there listening to Genesis,
On a long rainy day.
With the sky all black,
I felt I needed an energy snack,
To help the blues away.
Whilst gazing in my fridge I saw a penguin!
"Not the feathered variety", you say.
What on earth is wrong with your mind!
This was the chocolate kind,
But I didn't fancy it today
I then noticed a bar at the back of the fridge,
Either flavoured with Berry, or Cherry, hurray.
As it was tucked at the back,
When I opened this snack,
I found it was full of decay!
I gave up on the fridge as it was empty,
Why does good food never seem to stay!
So I sent Scotland Yard,
My query on postcard
And I got the reply back today!
We are sorry to hear of your...
