Jaws for Toddlers
Review of Shark in the Park - Nick Sharratt by  denella

Advantages: Good for rhyming; visually clever
Disadvantages: Very short

...Shark in the Park by Nick Sharratt is the story of a young boy, Timothy Pope, who goes to the park with his telescope (which obviously rhymes with his name). Each time he looks through the telescope, he sees something that looks like the black fin of a shark, so he shouts out 'There's a shark in the park!' This is repeated several times throughout the book, and the children I read aloud to know when it's coming and love to shout the phrase out themselves each time. Of course what Timothy sees is not a shark; the first time it's a cat's ear, the second time it's a crow's wing, and the third it's his father's enormous quiff. Great amusement. As his father finally decides to take him home, they turn their backs on the park and there in the duck pond appears an ominous black fin. The repetition and the humour both make this a popular story... Read review

Great shark movie - better than Jaws
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  elspeth334

Advantages: Sharks seen like never before
Disadvantages: The plot is a little poor

...Deep Blue Sea is a great movie that brings sharks to the screen as never been before. When people think sharks they think Jaws well Deep Blue Sea is bigger badder and blows Jaws out the water. The film is cram packed with special effects and action so the chances of you falling asleep are nil. The best way of describing this movie is jurassic park with water - genetically engineered animals, underwater pens, attacks and of course people get eaten. In fact most of this movie is spent guessing who will die and who won't. Renny Harlin brings these incredible animals to the screen and believe me it doesn't disappoint. This disc is great with a superb picture and sound quality and all the exrtras you could possibly want - a wonderful buy.... Read review

Deep Blue Sea
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  ros145

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...Okay, so it's not Jaws, but if you wanted to watch Jaws you would, right? I liked the story and the effects in this film. After reading some things about Mako sharks, this film really made more sense. I started to understand why they chose Makos, etc. It's a good film for suspending disbelief. Like Jurassic Park, you have to accept that it takes a touch of liberty with science and then runs with it. A fun film to watch, especially with people afraid of sharks. ;) There is also a few extras on the DVD worth checking out... Read review

jaws!!!!!!!
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  Antony_Murray

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...You know when a movie studio can't find one single quote from a review to help promote their picture it isn't going to be good, and this is exactly the case with Deep Blue Sea. It has a bad script (in fact bad is far too good a word to describe it, it's appalling), it's fill with second rate actors (apart from Samuel L Jackson, but I'll cover this later), the animatronic sharks may be impressive, but it certainly doesn't compete with Jurassic Park and the CGI special effects are pathetic. The basic premise is that while trying to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease, scientists at Aquatica have genetically engineered the brains of three sharks, however the side-effect of increasing the size of their grey matter is that they are now a lot smarter and have the ability to hunt down the people on the lab. In an attempt to kill their captives... Read review

Who ordered the fish
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  paulc20001

Advantages: a good romp, good effects
Disadvantages: plot a little weak

...more intelligent and lethal, enabling them to think for themselves and develop at a more sophisticated rate then previously. Although slow to start, once the sharks become more "enlightened" as to what is happening to them the fun begins, Have you ever seen a shark swim backwards? Well these sharks can. Remember the velociraptors in "Jurassic Park"? Well think along those lines and you'll have some idea of how clever their maritime compatriots become after playing around with their gene-pull. Not a good idea really, giving one of the oldest predators on the planet something to think with. The plot itself is fairly self explanatory, and is in effect an updated version of the "Jaws" scenario, as one by one our heroes get to be on the wrong end of a fish dinner. However don't let that put you off, as there are good performances from Samuel L... Read review

3-D graphics; 2-D characters
Review of Jaws 3 DVD by  Mel27

Advantages: Cheap to buy
Disadvantages: Terrible special effects; weak plot

...This film was originally released in 1983 and the makers tried to make it more exciting by using the then new "3-D" special effects. Hence the film did reasonably well at the box office as cinemas filled with people wearing silly red and green glasses. However, this novelty, which doesn't even work on the small screen, is its one redeeming feature. Not even the fact that Dennis Quaid is in it helps! The basic plot is that Michael Brody (Dennis Quaid) and Sean Brody (John Putch) have left Amity and now work at Sea World in Florida. A group of marine biologists at Sea World in Florida attempt to capture a young great white shark that has wandered into the park. Have the boys learned nothing about sharks?! However, the shark is actually a baby shark and it dies. A diver has also mysteriously gone missing. Even worse, the diver... Read review

3D but one dimensional
Review of Jaws 3 DVD by  utero

Advantages: unintentionally funny, cheesy effects
Disadvantages: cheesy effects, bad idea, bad script, english characters

...It seems that once you have a Jaws film without Roy Scheider things go to pot. Well that may not be the only downfall to this film, it's basically a case of having no good idea for a film and not having the technical capabilities to make something interesting. But obviously the makers saw this flaw and had the wonderful idea of having some of Jaws 3 in 3-D. Not only would they have something cool to pull people into the theatre but it would be a clever play on the sequel title. To make connection with the first two films we have Mike and Sean Brody from the previous films although they are played by different actors, one is Dennis Quaid. Mike Brody works at a ocean amusement park whihc has a lot of water so guess who shows up ? Yes a shark shows up by chance, it seems the national federation of stalking sharks really don't like... Shark Bay "A Marine Wonderland"
Review of Shark Bay, Perth by  quan

Advantages: View of Monkey Mia Beach
Disadvantages: Quite expensive for travel

...Shark Bay is a large, shallow inlet located at the westernmost point in Australia, some 650 kilometres north of the city of Perth. In 1629, Dutch explorer Francois Pelsaert branded this desert area “a bare and cursed country, devoid of green or grass”. Later visitors recorded their impressions with such names as Hopeless Reach, Useless Inlet and Disappointment Loop. Today, though, over 120,000 people flock to Shark Bay annually. So remarkable are the attractions of this remote region that it was placed on the World Heritage List in 1991. ***Meadow Bursting With Life*** Pelsaert would have found his grass meadows if he had looked under the water, for Shark Bay contains the largest and most diverse sea-grass meadows in the world, over 4,000 square kilometres in all. The Wooramel Seagrass Bank alone stretches 130 kilometres along... Read review

should you get this?
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  rowemg

Advantages: good old yarn
Disadvantages: been done before better

...Deep blue sea is a nice little yarn about a couple of mutated sharks that the scientists have created and then lose control of. Old ground this is but they do seem to do it quite well. As you expect these days the specials effects are slick and the sharks are very well animated. This covers the same ground as jaws/jurrasic park/alien and steals a bit from all of these and yet it is quite an enjoyable film if you don't mind ignoring the obvious. The acting is ok but nothing special and the script is adequate while never setting the world on fire. This is just a good old man will survive against impossible odds story It is worth a watch but may not be watched too often The DVD has few extras worth mentioning and the sound and picture quality is excellent may be worth the money but there are better films of this type out there.... Big high jump
Review of Deep Blue Sea (Wide Screen) by  MichelleScott

Advantages: Realistic, action-packed, suspenseful, good music, great acting
Disadvantages: Could make you a bit jumpy next time you're stranded on an oceanic research station

...(Jurassic Park II). Apparently, the children said that there should be action from the minute the film opens. Jurassic Park was supposed to be about dinosaurs and they said there was a lot of boring stuff about people and computers. The makers of Deep Blue Sea must have heard that advice. The sharks are present right at the beginning and the tension builds from the first minute - and not in an overtly special-effects way, either. There is none of the none-too-subtle Jaws-esque music to increase tension (the music is good, a little reminiscent of Jurassic Park in places). Deep Blue Sea uses good acting instead. There is tension between the cast - a worried look, knowing glances - which all contributes to the overall dread. Right at the start there is a shark attack and there are plenty more to follow. There is enough blood and guts to make... Read review
