Sheffield Hallam, the best fo the rest
Review of Sheffield Hallam University by  chelle2u

Advantages: It's great fun and there are lots of course on offer
Disadvantages: The work and effort you have to put in

...I am currently in my third and final year of my degree at Sheffield Hallam uni and I can vouch for it being a top class place to study! With a wide range of courses on offer there is something for everyone no matter what your interests and vocation! I am studying for an education studies degree which has also given me the opportunity to study for a TESOL (teaching english as a Second Or Other Language) qualification. In september I am planning on embarking on my PGCE at Hallam as I don't wish to leave I have had such a good time. Over my three years here I have had lots of fun, making new friends and going out on student nights. The nightlife in Sheffield is extremely good for students with loads of student nights being held at a number of diiferent nightclubs! I particularly enjoy the night at the Leadmill on a wednesday where... Read review

Hallam FM - South Yorkshire/North Midlands
Review of Hallam FM - Sheffield by  clublander

Advantages: Cool Presenters, Great Music, Very Local and decent Compo's
Disadvantages: Can sometimes be repetative music wise

...Well theres not been a review of Hallam recently so I thought I would post my Views. Tag Line -------- "South Yorkshires Number 1 Hit Music Station" plays current chart hits, and a few oldies, including early nineties stuff. Frequencies ----------- 97.4 in Sheffield and Rotherham 102.9 in Barnsley 103.4 in Doncaster and pretty much all the surrounding area. http://www.hallamfm.co.uk Worldwide via Windows Media Stream DAB Digital Radio on EMAP South Yorkshire Mux In practise 103.4 frequency can be heard as far south as Nottingham and as far North as Leeds. As many people have said in their reviews, after the "Glory years" on hallam, with Daryl Denham, Hirsty, Emma Scott and the one and only Scottie McClue, things did go wrong for a while. In fact I think for a while I listened to Galaxy 105! Now tho, Hallam... Read review

Sheffield's Largest Indoor Arena!
Review of The Sheffield Hallam FM Arena by  micksheff

Advantages: Large Seating Capacity And Flexible Seating Plans
Disadvantages: Expensive Bar Prices

...Since its official opening by Her Majesty The Queen on the 31st May 1991 the Sheffield Hallam FM Arena has established itself as one of the most prominent venues in the city. It was originally designed and built to host the World Student Games, which were held in Sheffield in 1992. Since this time it has received over 7 million visitors and hosted a multitude of live sporting and musical events. It has also hosted many exhibitions and conferences. My most recent visit to this place was a few days ago when I went here to see the Scissor Sisters and a thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all. It is this most recent visit which has prompted me to write this review. THE HISTORY The Hallam FM Arena occupies a 19-acre site in an area to the East of Sheffield City Centre known as the Lower Don Valley. Historically this was the area... Read review

Sheffield Hallam - A University of 3 Halves
Review of Sheffield Hallam University by  ihatebroccoli

Advantages: Excellent facilities if you are a computing/science/english student
Disadvantages: Arts facilities are poor, Psalter library appalling

...willing to help. The only big problem I really had with my course (Film Studies) was the complete lack of teaching in relating the course and what we had learnt as part of it, to the world outside University. We were never given any careers advice, never told what options we had after leaving University. Whereas other courses such as in computing or science, students were offered work placements, given practise interviews, generally shown how to hone their skills in order to market themselves effectively and to get a job at the end of their University lives. Arts students at SHU must fend for themselves apparently! Psalter Lane aside, Sheffield is a lovely, friendly and attractive city, and the City campus is a modern and professional environment in which to study your (non-Arts) subject. Business and computing courses are very well... Read review

Hallam fm my oppion
Review of Hallam FM - Sheffield by  projectlaughter

Advantages: cool music most of the day
Disadvantages: they tend to repeat songs too much

...Hallam Fm the show that has loads for all, from pop to live comentarys of local football teams, this is a radio show that has the bit for all ages. When a saturday comes you can always garantee that theres a match being broadcasted, whats better is that local fans can ring in after the show to voice their oppions on that days broadcast, the funny thing that always gets me is when local teams pull each others to pieces and the dj at the time seems to be a little sided with sheffield utd. During the day at work we listen to various shows, this can be somewhat boring as with all radio shows you can here the same track 3 to 4 times a day, a little belwildering when you dont like a certian song and its on and on again. What i like is the Top ten at ten here we have one days song from a year where they play old songs and we the public have... Read review

Would you "Hallam and Eve" it?
Review of Novotel, Sheffield by  sue.51

Advantages: Good food, free parking, ideal for the city centre and Sheffield Hallam University
Disadvantages: No wake-up call or newspaper, limited free parking, if you don't post your ticket you risk getting clamped

...As much as I enjoyed the comfortable bed and leisure facilities at the Sheffield Park, the solid sausages deterred me from booking a second time. Therefore, it was back to laterooms to see what was on offer for my second visit to the area. I stumbled across the Novotel Sheffield, which said, “Ideally placed for Sheffield Hallam University”, with limited on-site free parking and an indoor heated swimming pool, this captured my attention. A quick check on the Accor website showed I wasn’t going to get it cheaper than £49 room only, and the deed was done, booking through laterooms. You can also book direct with the hotel and through the Accor Hotel websites, where they sometimes offer special internet rates, although proceed with caution as Novotel rates generally EXCLUDE breakfast. Standard Rack rates at £86 and £96 room only... Read review

Hooray for Hallam FM
Review of Hallam FM - Sheffield by  ClaireC

Advantages: good music
Disadvantages: adverts

...Radio Hallam is one of the best radio stations I have ever listened to, it beats Radio 1 and all the other big radio companies. It appeals to a wide audience, both young and old, it plays lots of modern chart music combined with lots of older records via the Hallam FM top 100 (100 best records voted for by the listeners). The DJ's are all really on the ball and witty and I love to listen to them both at home and in the car. Although I have never phoned in myself I like to listen to the phone in aired every evening. It enables listeners to phone in with opinions of things happening in the news, both locally and worldwide and is very interesting. The only thing I don't like about Hallam FM is the adverts which are played quite regularly.... Read review

I love Sheffield and so will you
Review of Sheffield in general by  judithritchie

Advantages: great place, great ents facilities, good shopping facilities, 2 universities
Disadvantages: the weather!

...Sheffield is one of those cities that has everything you could ever need to survuve and more! I have lived here 2 and a half years since I came to university here. Which one? Well, Sheffield is the home to 2 universities, the University of Sheffield uptown, and Hallam University, downtown. So the place is crawling with students. You just can't get away from us, as there are easily 10,000 students at Sheffield and maybe the same number at Hallam. As a consequence to studying at university, I have only ever lived near the university, but a huge proportion of Sheffield is made up of suburban areas from Heely, Crookes, Walkley, to Firth Park and Shiregreen, Oughtibridge and Lowedges, there are miles of villages to live in, some not as nice as others. But in the compact but happening city centre, there are many high street banks, an Anglican... Read review

Hallam
Review of Hallam FM - Sheffield by  jamesiec

Advantages: Some of the presenters
Disadvantages: The other presenters, small playlist

...I have been listening to Hallam FM for about five years now and I can't help feeling that they have lost it abit. They seem to now be very fond of this breed of blander than bland presenters who can come and go and no one will notice. There are still some good presenters; Tom Binns and Phoneboy do a very entertaining show at night and John Harrison does a good job at breakfast. One underated presenter is Nick Margerrison who is on in the middle of the night but sometimes does propper shows when people are off. I think he would be much better employed on the evening show and Dave Bethell would be better off unemployed, or doing the phones at best. Matt Mackay is possably the worst presenters, but he gets the lunchtime slot. Debbie Mac is okay, but she tends to go on about why women are better than men, all of the time. Shows... Read review

A uni that has it all
Review of Sheffield Hallam University by  beer_spy

Advantages: Location, Modern, Nightlife
Disadvantages: The exercise you get when travelling to/from campus

...I've just finished my first year at sheffield hallam university and I loved every minute of it. Sheffield Hallam is split into 3 campus's with the main campus being in the city centre. Most of the business course's being there, the law, healthcare and childcare being at the collegiate campus and the practical at psalter lane campus. As I am at the city campus I can't give too much detail on the other 2 campus's, but collegiate is located about 25 minutes walk from the city campus in an area with most of the hallam student houses (does have some Sheffield Uni students living in the area) and Psalter lane located out of town. I've never been to Psalter lane but the gym and library at collegiate are good. The city centre campus is opposite Sheffield train station with the bus station and tram stop also opposite the campus, there are plenty... Read review
