New Otani, Singapore
Review of Hotel New Otani, Singapore by
zw987654123
Advantages: Location, Location, Location
Disadvantages: If you like shopping, could be closer to Orchard Road
...We stayed here for 3 nights on out way back from Australia. This is a great hotel for the price it was listed as a 3 star but in my opinion should be higher! Very clean, huge comfortable beds, large spacious marble bathroom with both walk in shower and bathtub, complimentary bathrobe and slippers for personal use during stay, and best of all an excellent view of the Singapore river.
The room had a computer, electric curtains, knobs and buttons on the bedside cabinet for various lighting effects that kept my husband amused for ages. There is an adjoining shopping complex below the hotel which is another plus point, as it has a Starbucks, supermarket, bookshop and even a beauty parlour. We had dinner in the hotel in the Restaurant next to the Lobby and found this to be both delicious and excellent value for money, the Seafood Laksa being...

My favourite Singapore hotel
Review of Holiday Inn Park View, Singapore by
VC81
Advantages: Unrivalled location, great facities, wonderful breakfasts
Disadvantages: View of the freeway from some of the rooms
...Of all the hotels I have stayed in in Sing, this is definitely my favourite. It's all the flash, marbled, gilted, chanderliered swankiness you can desire, with great facilities, service and efficiency, as only Singapore can do.
The rooms are well appointed and very clean, with your typical Holiday Inn double beds and choice of pillow firmness, TV, trouser press, tea and coffee etc., and also internet connections, bathrobes, disposable slippers and safes. The large marble bathrooms come complete with a phone for those calls that just can't wait.
One of my favourite features in this hotel is the roof pool. These are common in most Singapore hotels, but this one is a huge, overflowing marble affair, with foliage around the walls, the odd gecko, and is beautifully lit for night swimming, when the temperature is perfect. There is a large...

Singapore - the Hotel 81 chain
Review of Hotel 81 - Gold, Singapore by
webfoot
Advantages: Cheap, clean and safe
Disadvantages: Not for the faint-hearted if you don't like the real world
...I did not mean to stay in a Hotel 81 hotel. I was planning to be in transit through Singapore at my own expense for a day or so.I tried three four-star special offers. The first two came back after about 12 hrs to inform me that their hotel was full on the dates in question.
The third hotel was also full but offered me a hotel, Hotel 81 Geyland on Lorong 20, which they recommended for a cost of about £20 per night. Time was a bit tight ,but the photo looked OK on-line and the price was fantastic so I booked it and this is where I stayed, and stayed again on two further visits later in the year.
This hotel is not for seekers of de-luxe accommodation. The rooms are completely basic and quite small. My room had an air-conditioner (which did not cost extra to use), a small bathroom with toilet and shower and a welcome bag with toothbrush...

Singapore Airline Crap
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
petitesquirt
Advantages: What advantages? Should be renamed the NoStar Alliance.
Disadvantages: Too many to list.
...As many of you know, I am a frequent flyer on several of the major airlines. My travels have taken me to many parts of the world on several different airlines, some good, some bad, some not worth mentioning.
This is an extremely long review. So, you have been warned!
Personal History
=
The last time I flew with Singapore Airlines (SIA) was more than 10 years ago. On that fateful flight, the plane was delayed many hours, due to 'unforeseen technical problems'. They boarded , and unboarded (alighted) us many many times and did not even have the courtesy to provide the passengers with refreshments.
On top of the delays, there was the food poisoning incident when I flew with them from Hong Kong to Singapore. Did I mention they are also part of the Star Alliance? Earlier last year, I wrote about Air Canada and how awful...

Opulence and a lucky dancing fountain
Review of Conrad Centennial, Singapore by
purdy
Advantages: Luxurious hotel with all the facilities you would expect from a hotel of that calibre
Disadvantages: Can be expensive
...Our main holiday trip this year took us to Bali Indonesia for a ten night stay and then to Singapore for a further 5 nights. During both of these trips we were lucky enough to enjoy the luxury comfort and service of the Conrad Hotels.
In Singapore we checked in to the Conrad Hotel for 3 of our 5 nights staying - we had previously booked into the Swissotel Merchant Quay booked via Travelocity but we missed the Conrad which we had grown very used too during our stay in Bali.
The Conrad Centennial Hotel in Singapore can be found at
Two Temasek Boulevard
Singapore
Tel: 65-X-6334-8888
Email: Singaporeinfo@conradhotels.com
There are 509 rooms in the hotel, on over 31 floors of the hotel.
Its location is in the business district of Singapore but is in close proximity to shopping mall of Suntec City and public transport meaning...

Krisflyer Earn your way free flights
Review of Singapore Airlines Krisflyer by
atlantis140
Advantages: A great way to earn free flights.
Disadvantages: Takes a while to get to first class!!
...of hotels including Hilton and Marriot and many more. Miles can be earned through using the Singapore Airlines duty free shop ‘Kris Shop’ where you can purchase goods on-board or via their mail order service. Miles can be earned by Singapore Airlines credit cards and by taking out financial products with Citibank and Sun Alliance if you live within the republic of Singapore. Even for non-singaporeans there are plenty of ways to earn miles.
Once you have earned the miles what can you do with them?
Well you can use them towards any free flight with SIngapore Airlines or their direct partners or you can purchase flights on the Star Alliance network. You can book single trips or round trips, companion trips ie ‘Buy 1 get 1 free’ or even use them towards upgrades on tickets you have purchased. ‘Economy -----> Raffles Class, Raffles Class...

Best Airline Ever!!!
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
rich_lufc
Advantages: Friendly Service, Great Food, Loads of Entertainment
Disadvantages: None!!!
...came out of the right arm wrest, on one side was a channel selector, and on the other was a SNES controller! From the remote control, I could choose to watch one of hundreds of movies, listen to music, play one of around 25 SNES games or watch the aircrafts progress around the world via satellite.
When it was time to eat, I was presented with some superb food, I can't remember what it was but I can remember that I enjoyed it a lot!
The toilets were very spacious and clean and were well stocked with toilet paper and soap.
The stewardesses were very well presented and were always smiling. They were very comforting during the flight and would 'patrol' up and down the aisles asking politely if anyone requires assistance or a drink ect...
When we arrived in Singapore we enjoyed a two day stop over in a hotel called something like the Marina...

The Other side of Singapore
Review of General: Singapore by
khunKwai
Advantages: Young trendy, fashionable and flash
Disadvantages: Expensive compared to other Asian destinations
...Like everyone else I had a a view that Singapore was the cleanest most pleasant , polite nation in Asia....sterile to the a point of death...then on my most recent visit I hooked up with a few friends of friends...and staggered home at 3am ....... Sure you can plod down Orchard Road, Yawn, or join the rest of the tourists on Somerset and the outdoor bars and restaurants, I can recommend that as a start to the evening but after that grab a cab and head to one of two locations. Mohamed Sultan Road is crammed with bars and night clubs, both member only and open house where Singapores young and trendy hang out and dance and drink away the night, you'll find no sterile life down here with the guys decked out in dress from Tuxedos to jeans and T-Shirts and the girls in the newest and hottest fashion.
If you can get in head to Amoeba, owned...

definately worth paying a bit extra for!
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
tazzywazzy
Advantages: really great service, friendly staff
Disadvantages: flights are really full now because the airline is so successful!
...Where to start, where to start....
Singapore Airlines fares are definitely a shade more expensive than say BA or any other leading airline that flies to Singapore, but remember you have paid a premium and you are getting an excellent service. On average you will pay over £4,000 for a first class ticket (return) from London Heathrow (Term 3) to Singapore Changi Airport, but "oh, my, god!" it is definitely worth it. For those of us not made of money (or who have to pay for our own flights) return flights in coach are a shade under £800. These are the fares taken from the website, but I am sure that there are often deals about.
Singapore airlines is part of the Star Alliance which includes airlines such as Quantas, BMI & Air Canada. This often means that you could have booked a flight on Quantas to go to say Sydney and turn up to your...

An armchair in the sky
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
Writing321
Advantages: Friendly, service second to none
Disadvantages: no eye shield
...-engine Airspeed Consel aircraft to fly between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang. In 1955 it progressed to owning a fleet of Douglas DC 3's.
In 1972, October saw Singapore Airlines formed with a fleet of 10 airlines, roaming between 22 cities in 18 countries and employing 6000 staff. Nowadays it operates to 90 cities in 40 countries and has the world's largest number of Boeing 777 and 747-400 aircraft as well as Airbus 310, 340, and it is introducing a huge A380 airbus some time this year - I think it will take 555 people!! (Saw a model of this at Changi Airport on one of the stopovers.)
I cannot tell you which type of aircraft I flew on each of my legs of the journey as I did not take notes on it, silly me. The planes were huge, reasonably quiet and really comfortable.
ENTERTAINMENT
To add to the hospitality I was able to use...
