Yeats Tavern & Davis Pub
Review of Sligo and Leitrim (Counties in Ireland) by
Weespud
Advantages: Handy stop-off on your travels
Disadvantages: A busy venue at all times of the day
...Driving northbound on the Sligo to Donegal road (N15) you are sure to drive through the picturesque village of Drumcliff. The Churchyard here is internationally recognised as the burial place of the poet WB.Yeats making this the definitive heart of Yeats Country.
Drumcliff is also home to The Yeats Tavern Restaurant & Davis's Pub. One of Sligo’s oldest drinking and eating establishments, this fine pub/restaurant has been owned and run by the Davis family for over thirty five years.
From the drinking mans local of the 1960’s, progressing on to their first menu of fresh fish, soup and sandwiches in the 70’s, the new century has seen this pub evolve to become a quality venue for eating and socialising. Open seven days a week, and only five miles from Sligo town, this is a popular spot frequented by both locals and visitors alike...

At the end of the day
Review of At The End Of The Day - Dervish by
katychan
Advantages: A cd that makes you become familiar with Irish folk music at once
Disadvantages: The last song is a bit boring
...The band from Sligo presents 14 songs that are masterpieces of recent Irish folk music.
The traditional instruments (fiddle, bouzouki, concertina, mandola, whistles) create a sweet atmosphere that perfectly integrates itself with the female singer's sweet voice.
Chords and fiddle are played in an excellent way and every time you listen to tunes like Touching Cloth, Peata Beag and The Trip to Sligo Set, joy fulfils your heart and mind, giving you the opportunity to stand up and dance (if you are listening to the cd in a place where you can stand up and dance!).
The singer's voice is wonderful and the lyrics of the songs are very touching.
The songs she sings tell stories about several complex characters such as misunderstood lovers, men who had to leave from Ireland to find a job….. These songs are maybe a little too long...

Family Friendly? Not for my family!
Review of Renvyle House Hotel, Connemara by
lulu2004
Advantages: Away from every where for a break. stunning countryside
Disadvantages: it wasnt family friendly for us at all
...a suite with no problems. The night after our wedding we packed up the car, put our little boy into his car seat and intended to find a B&B half way down the country to stay the night before we finished the journey in the morning. As I mentioned before it was a Bank Holiday weekend and we had no idea how hard finding a B&B would be, but after 2 hours of trying we booked into the Radisson Hotel in Sligo where the staff were fabulous and upgraded us Free of charge on the mere mention of the word honeymoon! They also treated our little boy like he was a king. I was truly delighted by the stay there and fully intend to book it again if we ever head to Sligo in future.
As we checked out the lovely lady asked where we were staying for the rest of our break and when we mentioned the Renvyle House Hotel she told us that it was a stunning part...

world turned upside down
Review of World Turned Upside Down - McDermotts (The)/Levellers (The) by
chicane
Advantages: very very good music
Disadvantages: not easy listening background music
...This album is a collaboration between McDermott's 2 Hours, often cited as a major influence on the levellers, and two of the levellers, namely Jeremy and Charlie. I bought this album because i love the leveller's music and was curious to see what this album was like and the first time i listened to it i have to admit to wondering what i had done! but then i listened to it again and realised, as the music and lyrics crept into my head and stayed there, that i had been mistaken, this was a very, very good album.
It is essentially folk music, lots of fiddle and drum type music, with the undertone of social comment you expect to find in the leveller's usual albums.
the tracks are:
1.world turned upside down
2.another campaign
3.the wheel
4.blue bandana
5.harry brewer
6.taking it on
7.la passionaria
8.laying the sligo maid
i am...

Aer we go no more
Review of Aerarran by
iainkay1
Advantages: Good basic flights
Disadvantages: little shabby looking
...asked why and was told that the aircraft was not in operation but they could bus me down that is a 3 hour journey and how am I supposed to get to my meetings on time when they could not even tell me when the bus would arrive in Dublin, so I drove.
The Refund was given only after prompting 4 weeks later aaaargh.
On the tuesday the press release was given saying they were cancelling the service so that made me realise that the only operational reasons were that they didnt want to run the service for the days before it would be cancelled , how dishonest.
The apology email said that they will still fly to Dublin from Sligo 106 miles away from here so thats helpful isnt it.
Anyway my advice would be check first to see that they will not do the same to you if you are booked with them.
Check In
This opened one hour before the flight from...

Irelands hidden treasure
Review of Donegal (Ireland) by
Maia
Advantages: Stunning scenery, good craic, not touristy
Disadvantages: Slightly inaccessible
...are immediately contrasted a little inland by the mystical lakes of the Donegal highlands”. It reminds me of Cornwall and the highlands of Scotland … so if you like either, you’ll love County Donegal.
++ WHERE IS IT? ++
Donegal is the most northerly part of Ireland (above Northern Ireland), which is a bit weird when locals talk about going ‘up’ to Belfast (which is geographically south). With a spectacular 200 mile coastline, County Donegal is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and north; Counties Derry, Tyrone and Fermanagh to the east and Counties Leitrim and Sligo to the south.
++ TELL ME A BIT ABOUT THE HISTORY (BUT DON’T BORE ME!) ++
Donegal’s original name was Tir Chonaill, meaning “the land of Conal” (one of the 12 sons of Niall of the Nine Hostages). In the early seventeenth century, the English changed the name...
