...SUMMER 2007 REVISION. I haven't made any major revisions to what I had previously written, as my wife and I are still much in love with our dear little Smarty, but I have added a few afterthoughts as a last paragraph, based on what is now more than 5 years ownership. The good news is that there's little to report that's negative. Meanwhile, back at the plot...... JANUARY 2002 I wrote this as an owner of one of the first official right-hand-drive versions of the Smart to be seen on the roads of Britain. So there it stood on our driveway, a Swatch*-Mercedes "Art" Car (SMArt, geddit?), all metallic blue and silver, smiling at me, saying, "aaah go-on, go-on, go-on, take us for a drive. ...Introduction This was a film that I picked up randomly one day because it was cheap and it is based on a true story. Although I'm not a big fan of Helen Hunt, she is a relatively well-known actress and I thought that the film must be of a reasonable quality. I did enjoy the film; but only really because it is based on a true story. It should be noted here that based is the operative word - apparently the characters are all fictitious, presumably because it involved youths under the age of 18. The quality of the acting is not terrible, but is far from superb and it is really only worth a watch if you are interested in true crime and the psychology of the human mind - although to be honest, the latter is not well portrayed. ...This is Braun's entry into their '3-stage cutting system' with the multi-patterned SmartFoil and the central cutter designed to cut longer hairs such as on the neck. The shaver looks good in its black and silver body and feels well constructed. However there are features lacking as reflected in the price such as a non-pivoting head and it has basic 2-LED display (Green - charging/fully charged and Red - low charge). Charging takes about 1 hour for 45 minutes shaving and can be used as a corded shaver as well. There is no option of a Clean And Renew base. Accessory-wise, you get a hard blue travel case, cleaning brush and a little bottle of oil. The shaver is washable under the tap for easy cleaning. ...Purchased new 2 1/2 years ago, as a fun second car. The car I went for tne black so that the frame matches everything. The appearence is great and my two year old daughter loves the slightly elevated seating position to view the traffic. After covering about 6,000 the outside panels have stood up well to all weathers, and not faded. For the inside it has the soft touch gear change which means it can be used like a normal gearbox, but with no clutch ,or fully automatic. The gearchange takes gettiing used to and could be described as a rocking motion, unusual, but not unpleasant. I have driven a number of Smarts, including one with a paddle change - I would avoid this like the plague. The changes are slow, and then there's a kick as a gear drops in. ...I'm sure that there is no need to describe what a smart fortwo (by the way, the small 's' in smart is deliberate, not a spelling mistake) looks like - you're sure to have seen the small, strange looking cars zooming around towns and cities near you. No doubt you'll have looked at them and thought that it is impractical, perhaps unsafe, you may even have laughed at them but I'm also sure you'll have smiled when you first saw them. smart cars are the result of a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Swatch (yes the watch people). The smart fortwo was the first production car made by smart, followed by the smart Roadster (the small, sports car) and the smart forfour (a more normal looking car with room for four passengers). smart have now concentrated their efforts on the fortwo (so called as it is 'for two' people), and have ceased... (Please note this is written in a different category to the other Smart op I wrote that one is in MCC Smart general, whereas this one is in the specific model category!) After liking this car for some time now, I finally purchased one in September. The price paid for this LHD Smart and Passion was £7100, which was slightly discounted after taking into consideration the options that I chose. You should be aware that stocks of LHD Smarts are being run down in the UK, now that DaimlerChrysler UK (DCUK parent company of MCC Smart) have introduced a long awaiting RHD version for the UK. ...This base is brillant! I got mine when my son was born and it is a god send! It was so easy to put the car seat in to it and didn't have the hassle of putting the car seat belt round and through the car seat itself as it went round the base instead. The car seat clip's in to the base so very easily and it is very easy to remove the car seat from the base, all you have to do is pull a leaver on the back of the car seat an wayhey the car seat was off! It's so much easier for mum's and dad's to use as it is a great piece of kit for the constant stay in the car and the added quickness of actually putting this in the car is easy. ...I think Braid Easy to spray on the hair to make it easier to hold on to making it easier to plait. It is still much easier if you don`t have to bother plaiting the tail though.
