THE UNDERWATER WORLD OF THE MALDIVES
Review of Resort Snorkeling by
pocahantis
Advantages: Breathtaking sights.
Disadvantages: None
...With their crystal clear waters & incredible sea life the Maldives are a fantastic place to snorkel & a great place to learn if you dont already.
For beginners it is an excellent start as fish are plentiful in the shallows. All you have to do is get your head wet...And learn to breath under water of course which is a lot easiers than it sounds.
Most of the resort islands have areas where the water never reaches more than waist high, the water is warm & teaming with fish. This combination is ideal as you dont have to go far to experience the diverse sea life. The instant gratification is enough to get you hooked for life as it did with me.
THE SCAREY ONES
There are among other things small nurse sharks that do their rounds as well as the larger reef sharks .Despite the thousands of dives that occur every day in these waters...

Snorkel City
Review of Deep Blue Dive Centre by
jonesri
Advantages: Good product range, good customer service
Disadvantages: poor site design
...I booked to go to Egypt on holiday this year intending to have a nice relaxing couple of weeks. Having spoken to some friends of mine I found out that Egypt has some of the best diving in the world and decided that in-between relaxing I would have to find some time to do some diving and some snorkelling. While preparing for my visit I remembered primitive snorkels and masks I used to buy as a kid where the mask leaked and the snorkel would attempt to drown you at the first sight of a wave. With this in mind, and the fact that I intend to make a similar visit to Mexico in the near future, I decided I would investigate the possibility of buying a reasonable snorkel and mask. Enter Deep Blue Dive Centre website.
** Overview **
Deep Blue Dive Centre is a one-stop shop for diving equipment and courses. They stock and sell a wide...

Snorkelling at Ras Mohammed
Review of Ras Mohammed National Park by
heidi2493
Advantages: Amazing sea life, beautiful corals
Disadvantages: felt slightly seasick whilst travelling to it via boat
...I went to sharm el sheik in may this year and one of my favourite parts of the holiday was snorkelling at ras mohammed. There was about 20 of us all getting ready for snorkelling on the boat whilst the staff prepared the buffet on board for half way through. The first place we stopped at to snorkel didn't take long to get too, the crystal blue corals were lovely, although i have to admit i chickened out on the first bit of snorkelling as people were jumping off the boat with their flippers and masks on as the boat was still travelling so I didn't jump as I was to far away from everyone else by the time i was ready lol the second part of snorkelling was within swimming distance from a lovely deserted beach with pure white sand so I jumped in and began swimming with everyone to the shore whilst looking down in the water to the amazing sea...

Sun, Sea, Sand and Snorkelling
Review of General: Maldives by
Ophelia
Advantages: Idyllic, peaceful, tropical fish
Disadvantages: Expensive, not much to do, it's not Cornwall!
...person - but then my father did buy us each a tea cup for our engagement, so think of it as making up for his prior 'generosity'!)
The flight was 12 hours and when the plane touched down (on a runway which seemed to disappear into the sea at either end – not to be recommended for aerophobes) and the doors opened the heat hit us. A 45 minute boat journey to our resort island of Eriyadhu followed and then the holiday commenced.
Days consisted of reading, lazing about and snorkelling. The island itself took only 8 minutes to walk around and so once you had finished your books and seen all the fish, you could… err, err – do not much else! Certainly relaxing but not for those with an inate need to be busy!
Bizarrely we shared the island with not only human guests but one chicken, one peacock and one cat (called Lisa). The only other...

Snorkelling and diving
Review of Great Barrier Reef (Australia) by
Suse
Advantages: Amazing fish, warm water, sun and good food
Disadvantages: You can't stay long enough
...The Great Barrier Reef is one of the wonders of the natural world. It is also declining fast - so if you get the chance go and see it before we finish it off for good with pollution and damage. We atyed in Cairns and some of us did a diving course with ProDive - a five day thing which included two days out on the reef on a boat. When it became clear that I was not cut out to be a diver, I changed to snorkelling instead. Being out on the boat is incredible - at times above the reef the water is so shallow that you can clearly see the bottom and some of the wildlife. The water is warm, clear and blue, and putting your face in the water for the first time is amazing. Huge fish surround the boat, the multicoloured coral is below you and hundreds and hundreds of creatures are all around. To make it even more meaningful you can go...

Barrier Reef Snorkelling 5 hours away
Review of Hilton Sharks Bay; Sharm El Sheik, Egypt by
tjents
Advantages: Reef Snorkelling; All Inclusive; Good Value; Fantastic Weather
Disadvantages: Minor Tummy-bugs;
...a 12 foot moray eel; 4 different sized Napolean Wrasses (if you don;t know what they are, look them up on google..they are MASSIVE!!!..biggest we swam with about 1200Lb), a lovely pair of blue-spotted stingrays, and more parrot fish that you could shake a reef sea fish guide at.
apart from the pools there's not much for kids to do...which is good...cos you can have a wonderfully relaxing couples holiday, and the midday sun is extremely powerful....(don't forget your flipflops, you can burn your feet walking aroud the tiled floors!!)
WARNINGS:-
We have two:-
1)If you go out on the "Lazy Day Boat snorkelling trip" to Tiran Island....make sure you are a VERY good swimmer, and can use flippers properly, as we were taken out on a windy day, with a big tidal swell, and 4 of us nearly drowned!...."lazy" it is not....and you get much...

Sun Island, South Ari Atoll....a true paradise
Review of General: Maldives by
gard
Advantages: White beaches, blue ocean, great snorkeling, total relaxation, sports facilities
Disadvantages: A bit too hot for playing squash :-)
...This is a trip report from the trip that my wife Nikki and I went on during Easter of 2004. We were at Sun Island in the Maldives in the period April 4th to April 12th. This was a pure beach vacation so I can summarize it few words: sun, beach, sea, snorkeling, relaxing with a good book and a cold drink :-). This report is best viewed on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com as some of the pictures can show how beautiful it really is on the Maldives. Get in touch if you have any questions or comments about the trip.
Prelude
When I was standing on the slopes of Kilimanjaro last year I kept thinking “Why didn’t I just spend my money on a beach vacation with my wife”. Instead of relaxing on a beach, I was struggling to get to the top of Kibo and it was hard work. I guess it was there and then I promised myself that the next vacation...

Want to pet a huge blue fish?!
Review of Reef Magic Cruise, Great Barrier Reef by
DeniseKelly40
Advantages: You get to see the Great Barrier Reef
Disadvantages: All this tour company want is your money
...Reef Magic Cruise - Cairns (Marine World)
When I was in Cairns I decided I wanted to take a trip out to the Great Barrier Reef. I had snorkelled previously at the Whitsunday Island and enjoyed it very much so thought it would be nice to have another go at snorkelling but this time out in the open ocean. I booked the Reef Magic Cruise with the YHA, which was hassle free and I only had to walk a short distance to the Marina, which was the meeting place. It took us approximately 15 minutes. It was simple to locate and checking in was easy.
To give you a rough idea on the price 1 Australian Dollar is equal to 0.483602 sterling pounds.
It costs $165 adult, $85 Child (4-14 years), $415 family (2 adults and 2 children). Children under the age of 4 are free. All these prices include all charges (Government Environmental Management...
