Very good for internet and when loads of people use the camera
Review of Sony Mavica MVC FD73 by  eep362

Advantages: Convinient where loads of people use it, share images on the spot, no cables with FDisks.
Disadvantages: Poor picture quality when enlarging images, heavy.

...The MVC-73 is a good camera using floppy disks to store the images. You can get 40 images on one disk in standard mode (20 in fine). The effects are quite good and the zoom isn't bad either. This camera is not good if you are planning to take photo quality images. The quality leaves a lot to be desired. It is fine if you want small images like you find on the internet but as soon as you want to print on photo paper or make them a decent size the quality really suffers. This camera is very big and heavy although it is easy to use and uses a very cheap storage media. This camera also allows you to make a copy of your images onto anouther disk so you can give everyone the images on the spot. This camera is convenient but very expensive considering the quality of the puictures. If you are the only person going to use the camera it really... Read review

Good Start
Review of Sony Mavica MVC FD73 by  infisio

Advantages: Use of Floppy Disks
Disadvantages: Lighting is poor

...Sony has a wonderful concept with this camera. Floppy disks are practically free these days, so there is virtually no cost for "film". I have another digital camera, but the memory card makes it very inconvenient for traveling. Whenever the card is full you have to download the photos to your laptop, or buy extra cards. With the Mavica - you just bring along a box of disks. Each disk holds about 24 pictures on Fine resolution, and about 40 with Regular resolution. The downfall is that the lighting is very difficult to get right. Pictures in broad daylight, outside, come out fine, BUT if you take pictures indoors or in low-light, the pictures come out really dark. The flash floods the photo in white, and washes out the picture, and the exposure feature is difficult to use - I never got the hang of it. Unfortunately - I bought... Read review

Ideal for web work, but ...
Review of Sony Mavica MVC FD73 by  FatEmrys

Advantages: Cheap media, easy to use
Disadvantages: No mains lead included and expensive to run

...I bought an FD73 to use on websites I design for small companies, so its use of floppy disks as storage media was ideal - no need to wait until I get back to the office to check the quality. Although it's not a megapixel camera, at 640 x 480 its full sized pictures would be too big for a website anyway, and the ability to zoom into a ridiulously short distance (about 2 cm!) is excellent when dealing with scale models. The area which lets it down is the fact that the basic camera does not come with a mains adaptor and that it runs off a special Sony battery (so no use for the rechargable AA's I had). Sony are asking for over £118 for a mains adaptor, while batteries start at over £30. Good points include a few special effects, autofocus - even at 2cm - and the on-screen battery charge indicator. I feel a second battery... Read review

Magnificent Mavica
Review of Sony Mavica MVC FD200 by  purplelynne

Advantages: Lots of features
Disadvantages: A bit bulky

...This is my first review of anything remotely technical, apart from a tumble dryer, which doesn’t count, because all you do is chuck in the clothes and shut the door! So I apologise now, to all the dedicated reviewers of digital cameras, please bear with me and I will try my best. What is it? *^*^*^*^*^* The Sony Mavica FD200 is a 2.0-megapixel digital camera, which allows you to take photographs and record them onto a floppy disk or memory stick. This facility allows you to store endless photographs and are easily put onto your computer hard drive. They can then be sent via email, printed out or added to your desktop, among others. The large LCD (liquid crystal display) screen allows you to look at the person or item that you are photographing in clear and concise detail. You can also look at this screen when you play back... A DIGITAL CAMERA THAT USES FLOPPY DISKS
Review of Sony Mavica FD51 by  murban

Advantages: Uses cheap floppies, not too expensive, easy to use, good quality
Disadvantages: Big and heavy, still more expensive than some other digicams.

...Many people have heard of the Sony Mavica. It has been around for a while and was a revolutionary digital camera because it allows the use of ordinary, cheap floppy disks! A new version is now available which writes onto CD-Rs, but that’s another story. FLOPPIES So why is it such an advantage that it uses floppies? Simple – price. Normal digital cameras come with 2 – 8MB RAM to store images on. New RAM costs loads, so if you want to take more than pictures than the amount of RAM you have, you’re screwed. But with floppies, you can carry as many as you want around with you and they’re dead cheap. Granted, you’ll only get 1.44MB on each disk, but you can take loads of them – they’re hardly huge. A set back however is that it takes a while (Around 5 – 8 secs) to save each image. THE CAMERA The quality of pictures is excellent... Read review

Sony had to use a Floppy Drive
Review of Sony Mavica FD71 by  paulbowes2k1

Advantages: Floppy disks,MPEG Movies,Fairly easy to use.
Disadvantages: Bulky,Price!

...Sony Digital MavicaMVC-FD85. I’ve not had mine long and don’t know if I’m qualified to write an opinion yet! – But here goes anyway!! I bought my FD85 in the June of 2001 it cost me £449:98 from Dixon’s (a bit pricey for a digital camera these days) I could have bought one for about £30:00 less, mail order but had itchy fingers and like any “big kid” I couldn’t wait the week for delivery (how sad?). Anyway I’d been looking at loads of digital cameras and opted for the one I thought should be the easiest to use for all the family and also because my two eldest sons had already used a Mavica at school. At first you notice that this isn’t no small camera, not by a long chalk! It weighs 1lb 7oz but does come with a shoulder strap. OK! first, The big selling feature... Read review

Sony CD-RW Camera
Review of Sony Mavica MVC CD300 by  DavisComputers

Advantages: Writes directly to a CD
Disadvantages: Limited video time

...Sony, a company dedicated to bringing you cutting edge electronics, has come out with its third in a line of CD-RW camera. *CD-RW Background The greatest single feature of this camera is its CD-RW capabilities. This new model allows you to take pictures and have you record them directly to CD. It also has a finalization and initiation feature, so you can delete pictures without having them permanently burned onto the CD. Furthermore, with a mini-CDRW you have even more flexibility with what pictures you keep, without spending more money on more discs. *General About two years ago, I purchased the Sony Mavica Digital Camera for about $700 US. I bought it because it could burn to CD's, which could be very easily mailed back and forth between my relatives. It worked great for this purpose. Recently, I purchased the newer model... Mavica MVC - FD90
Review of Sony Mavica MVC FD90 by  darkteckno

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Price

...Brilliant, user friendly Digital camera! Well done Sony. Chose FD 90 over FD 85. Mavica range was recommended by existing users and I did not consider any other manufacturers. The most difficult task was to choose from the Mavica range. This camera's greatest attribute is recording to floppy disk. No hassle transfers to PC. Camera also has a disk copying feature for on the spot copying. Excellent for web site creation or e-mail transmission of images. Has 16X digital zoom. One of the main purchase criteria for a digital camera was the ability to also have a wide angle lens. This was available as an extra but not many cameras have this option which is essential for internal shots, etc. Various filters are also available of which I also ordered two and a reasonable range of accessories for this camera appears in Sony's catalogue. Menus... Read review

Mavica - good but pricey
Review of Sony Mavica FD51 by  djhendra

Advantages: floppy disk storage
Disadvantages: expensive

...The Sony Mavica digital camera is a VGA camera with an intelligent flash. What I like about this one is the you can store your pictures on a floppy disk which you put into the back of the camera. They say that you can get up to 40 pictures on one floppy disk, but unless you select 'fine mode', where you can only store 20, the picture quality is not particularly good. It has six different modes of 'auto-exposure' which to be perfectly honest I don't really understand - the manual was not much help here. It's a nice, good-looking, compact digital camera but I'm still not totally convinced of the results. It's also a rather expensive at £450. Please remember to rate this opinion before you leave. Thankyou.... Read review

Mavica Magic!
Review of Sony Mavica MVC FD75 by  tony_the_tiger

Advantages: Built to last forever, 10x optical zoom lens
Disadvantages: Hard to see LCD display in sunlight

...I bought my Mavica FD75 around 2 years ago after using, and being very impressed with, an older (FD71?) model at my workplace. By current standards the FD75 is something of a dinosaur and is quite bulky due to it using floppy discs for recording images. The maximum image size that can be saved is 640 x 480 pixels which equates to approx 0.3 megapixels. If you want to print your photos then the absolute maximum size you could hope for would be 6x4", though to be quite honest I've never printed my shots. So why did I buy the FD75? Well, the older Mavica model I'd used at work had proved to be bullet-proof over a number of years heavy useage by many users. The advantage of the FD75 over it's predecessor is the 10x zoom lens(optical, not digital zoom). Normally I use Olympus SLR cameras for my photography but I decided to enter... Read review
