Shopaholic and baby - Sophie Kinsella
Review of Shopaholic and Baby - Sophie Kinsella by
nicolaks1
Advantages: Easy to read, funny.
Disadvantages: Part of series, best to read other 4 first.
...AUTHORS BACKGROUND
Sophie Kinsella is a writer and former journalist, she is the number-one best-selling author of several novels including this shopaholic series. She lives in London with her husband and family, including one quite small baby who has to manage with cast-offs.
STORY
After nearly two years, Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood ) is back, in a hilarious new shopaholic novel.
Becky’s life is blooming! She’s working at London’s newest fashion store ‘The Look,’ house-hunting with husband Luke (her secret wish is a shoe room) . . . and she’s pregnant! She couldn’t be more overjoyed – especially since discovering that shopping cures morning sickness. Everything has got to be perfect for her baby: from the designer nursery, to the latest, coolest pram, to the celebrity, must-have obstetrician. But when the celebrity...

Can you Keep A Secret? Sophie Kinsella
Review of Can You Keep a Secret? - Sophie Kinsella by
shazzaspannered
Advantages: Funny, makes you laugh out loud
Disadvantages: Was finished far too quickly
...I love Sophie Kinsella, after reading all of her Shopaholics series of books I wasn't sure how this would compare.
However I loved it! From the moment I started reading it, I was laughing out loud (sometimes too loud) and it had me in absolute stitches in the usual way Kinsellas books do.
It is a lighthearded look at life through the eyes of Emma a young lady who is harbouring a few secrets, nothing too sinister just a few things that people are better off not knowing (don't we all). This follows her through her travels and her little secrets that she holds.
If you like books that are easy to pick up and put down then this is for you it is a great read and wether you like to devour a book in a whole sitting or just read a bit here a bit there this is suitable for everyone.
Has a bit of naughtiness, a bit of silliness, a bit...

Remember me? - Sophie Kinsella
Review of Remember Me - Sophie Kinsella by
skipper6
Advantages: Brilliant, lighthearted storyline, couldn't put it down.
Disadvantages: Read it all in one go, then was left with nothing to read!!!!!!
...aving read the shopaholic series written by Sophie Kinsella I was pleased when I found this book at the airport before going on holiday.
The main character Lexi is having a really bad day, what with not gettin her annual bonus, getting stood up by her boyfriend (loser dave) all on the eve of her fathers funeral. To top it off she has an accident trying to hail a taxi in the pouring rain after a night out. Subsequently she wakes up in hospital to be told that she has had a car accident in her Mercedes, which she cant understand as she doesnt know how to drive let alone be able to afford a Merc!!! She has lost 3 years of her memory and the more she learns about her life the more she cant believe it as it sounds like a dream. Little does she know in achieving this 'dream' life she has turned into a monster and turned her back on all her...

Kinsella Returns! Hurrah!
Review of The Undomestic Goddess - Sophie Kinsella by
rileylumps
Advantages: Laugh out Loud! Lose yourself completely!
Disadvantages: Read it within 48 hours! : (
.... It's chaos as Samantha battles with the washing machine...the ironing board ...and attempts to cook a cordon bleu dinner. But gradually, she falls in love with her new life in a wholly unexpected way.
Will her employers ever discover the truth? Will Samantha's old life ever catch up with her? And if it does...will she want it back?
I first came across Sophie Kinsella when I bought a book called 'Can you keep a secret?', I now own the Shopaholic series and 'The Undomestic Goddess'.
Probably like anyone I always read the back of the book to get an idea of the storyline and whether or not the book is going to be my cup of tea. It is however the first couple of sentences on the first page that are the deciding factor on whether or not I buy a book. I don't know about you but in general if I can get straight into a book I know I'm going...

Kinsella is the Goddess of Chick-Lit!
Review of The Undomestic Goddess - Sophie Kinsella by
amytheduck
Advantages: Very funny, likeable characters
Disadvantages: None, except you'll be left wanting more
...Sophie Kinsella is perhaps most known for her "Shopaholic" series of books, a few of which I have read and enjoyed. And so when I found this lying around the house (I believe it's my Mum's), and I had a long train ride coming up, I decided it was worth a read.
It's a very funny, very readable book that I read completely in the two hours it took to get from Birmingham to London.
**Blurb**
Samantha is a high-powered lawyer in London. She works all hours, has no home life, and cares only about getting a partnership. She thrives on the pressure and adrenalin. Until one day...she makes a mistake. A mistake so huge, it'll wreck her career.
She walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and finds herself in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she is mistaken...

Kinsella excelled herself again?!
Review of Shopaholic and Baby - Sophie Kinsella by
SoppySista
Advantages: The ever ridiculous storyline
Disadvantages: There isn't yet a sequel...?!
...Having read the rest of the series, I had high expectations for this book, and once again Sophie Kinsella managed to entertain me with the exploits of Becky Brandon (née Bloomfield) and this time, her hormonal paranoia over her gynacologist added to her already ridiculous shopping habits. A sad moment comes when things don't seem all fine and dandy between Becky and Brandon, yet all that she involves herself in to fully understand her husband's life is hysterically funny. If you are anything like me, the upset does not last for too long when you can barely put the book down. I never cease to wonder where Sophie Kinsella thinks of what Becky is going to do next, but really I can't fault her. The stories may not be realistic but who cares?! Much like our favourtie soaps we are drawn in so I urge anyone who thinks that they have a spending...

Another gem from Ms Kinsella
Review of The Undomestic Goddess - Sophie Kinsella by
MitchellandAimeesMum
Advantages: It was quickly over
Disadvantages: When is Ms Kinsella going to write another gem
...I hope Ciao doesn't think this is another review which I have already written, as that was under another account which has been closed as I couldn't get into this one!
Anyway, to start, I've read all the "Shopaholic" books by Sophie Kinsella and when this one came out couldn't wait to get my hands on it.
I actually picked it up at a charity shop for 60p, it normally retails in most good bookshops for £6.99.
The story centres around Samantha Sweeting a high -flyer lawyer from a big firm of lawyers in the City of London.
Samantha is just about to be offered full equity partnership of her firm when (she thinks) she makes a big mistake that could cost the company £50m pounds.
Samantha is the strongest character that we first meet in the book. She's very level headed (whe she knows what she...

Sophie succeeds again
Review of Shopaholic Ties the Knot - Sophie Kinsella by
consumer2003
Advantages: Funny, easy read
Disadvantages: Laughing out load in public is embarassing
...The third in the delightful series of books written by Sophie Kinsella. Reasonly priced book (especially if you can find it at the local supermarket for a little under £4.00 like I did).
Becky is the main character again and what a girl she is. She is just a girl who still can't say no - whether it be to men, future mother-in-laws or the designer shops.
She has finally set the date for her dream wedding (or rather two dream weddings).Along the way the plastic begins to melt on her credit card and the little white lies she tells soon grow into great big porkies!
She eventually succumbs to her heart and not her head and the ending is as fairytale as modern fiction allows.
A fine piece of writing for todays' woman who enjoys knowing that she is not the only one in the world that enjoys simple pleasures such as shopping and whose...

Sisters like chalk and cheese!
Review of Shopaholic & Sister - Sophie Kinsella by
Bouncebackability
Advantages: Brilliant light hearted read.
Disadvantages: None at all.
...I've read all of Sophie Kinsella books, so as you can imagine, I couldn't wait for this one to come out - and it definitely didn't dissapoint.
Unless I'm a big fan of the author I will wait for books to come out on paperback, but this really wasn't the case for this one! I bought it as soon as it came out, but unfortuantly due to being in the middle of other books I didn't get round to finishing it until recently.
~~~Who is Sophie Kinsella?~~~
Sophie Kinsella is a former financial journalist (hopefully she manages to keep on top of her finances better than Becky Bloomwood), and the author of the bestselling Shopaholic series. She lives in England with her family, and has 2 sisters, that she loves to shop with.
~~~How about the other books in the series?~~~
Well for those of you that don't know, Sophie Kinsella has written 3...

From Law to Loos and the gardener in between
Review of The Undomestic Goddess - Sophie Kinsella by
AimeeLouise18
Advantages: Really funny, easy to read, addictive!
Disadvantages: chick lit which may bother some people
...The Undomestic Goddess is the latest offering from Sophie Kinsella bringing with it lots of humour, wittiness and more chick lit than ever before.
*** The Story ***
Samantha Sweeting is a top lawyer in a huge law firm called Carter Spink. She works all day and all night, sometimes not leaving the office until 11pm because she's so determined to become a partner in the company, she'll literally work herself into the ground if she has to. That is until she makes a mistake, a mistake so big that it ruins her whole career.
In a daze she walks out of the office and gets on a train. She ends up in the middle of nowhere in front a big house and the owner mistakenly takes her in as the new housekeeper. Samantha has never cleaned or cooked, in fact using a toaster is quite a big ordeal for her so just how long will it be before she...
