...I did not want to admit to buying this album let alone liking it and telling people how much i've enjoyed it, but I have to say it is fantastic and I am so pleased that i spent money on it. All the old classis are on this album and it is just wonderful. I was not really old enough to really like Spandau Ballet in the 80s but this really shows me what i had missed out on. You may think that it is not worth buying but give it a chance and go out and buy it, you will probably end up loving it as much as I do.... Read review

Advantages: Several good tracks.
Disadvantages: Some tracks are 'odd'!

...I bought this album because I wanted to hear the other less well known songs by Spandau Ballet instead of the usual True and Gold. When I began listening, I was pleasantly surprised. This album has 15 tracks in all, and there were several that I especially enjoyed. These were Musclebound, Diamond, Pleasure, Code of Love and Foundation. They are in the classic over the top 80s style and are very catchy songs. The rest of the songs on this album are not so hot, I think the band just put them together to make up the numbers. However, it is still a very good album and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Spandau Ballet and wants to hear some of their 'alternative' songs.... Read review

Advantages: Addictive, don't get bored of the songs.
Disadvantages: Why did they split up!!

...I bought this album because I am a big fan of Spandau Ballet and especially because it contained the song 'Through the Barricades'. This album was very nice to listen to and has some of Spandau Ballet's later songs. It has nine tracks and most were very good in my opinion. The songs are very original, with a good variety, the most well known is the classic 'Through the Barricades'. You will never get bored of listening to this album and I was reaching for it time and time again. Overall I thought this album was excellent, probably one of Spandau Ballet's best I would recommend this album to anyone who likes Spandau Ballet.... Read review

Advantages: Some excellent songs

...In my time I have been a 70s chick, a punk, a Mod, a New Romantic, a Glam Rocker, a Heavy Rocker. In my New Romantic days I used to love Spandau Ballet along with Duran Duran and Visage. As I love to reminicise I thought I would buy the Gold album from Spandau Ballet. Tony Hadleys voice is so powerful and still could send shivers down my spine years later. Advantages: A real eye-opener to their talent, 80's revival

...3 more songs, including True and Gold. They seemed to know exactly how to speak to their audience saying that they just done this tour for a laugh and were surprised at the welcome they received. At the end they said their thanks and with a bottle of wine in his hand Tony Hadley shouted that they were 'off to continue partying'! I hope I'm still in that mode when I hit 40! Now I have probably bored you silly with my account of the gig....I will leave you with one thought! I never really liked Spandau Ballet and really didn't want to go....but I'm glad I did. It was like a revival of the 80's except now I actually appreciate their music (although I won't go as far as buying one of their albums!). Advantages: Great tracks, and that saxophone!
Disadvantages: May not be everyone's cup of tea

...I've spent the last few years travelling backward through my musical history, looking at the artists that I used to like, and ones that passed me by - to see how they stand up today. I found some to laugh at (purely in a "I liked THAT?!" type way), and some absolute gems. Spandau Ballet is one of these jewels in the crown of music, and I've been meaning to get myself a 'best of' for a while now. Thanks to Christmas - I now have one. Gold is a 'best of' released just this year. There have been others which have since been deleted, but this one has all the best tracks that any fan or musical traveller like myself would be looking for. Spandau Ballet have many classic tracks - one of the more memorable bands of the early to mid-eighties. ...Due to the 80's revival that seems to be going on at the moment, there's a few New Romantics compilations out there at the moment. This is definitely the best I've found. 20 tracks including: 'Gold' - Spandau Ballet, 'Karma Chameleon' - Culture Club, 'The Look of Love' - ABC, 'Girls on Film' - Duran Duran and 'Vienna' by Ultravox. In fact most of my favourite 80's songs, the only thing wrong with this album is that it doesn't include 'Take on me' by a-ha (although not strictly New Romantic - it would go nicely with the rest of the album) Buy it if..... you wanna re-live those days where the boys wore more make-up than the girls... Advantages: A good lasting album that will be played over and over again

...When I got The Singles Collection it was particially a joke, as a friend of mine is a perpetual new romantic and still listens to the group whenever he gets the opportunity. However this is a fabulous album - no humour required. Fifteen tracks, including popular classics such as "True", "To Cut a Long Story Short" and "Gold" (a track still heard upon a regular basis, especially around sporting events). It is a compilation which passes easily. You can put it on and before you know it there is silence where it has ended - for me a good sign as there is nothing so terrible that you have to immediately turn it off. Released in 1986 it is a classic CD, and thankfully one that is now normally available at budget price.... Read review

Advantages: Brilliant, Fantastic Band,

At the end of the day, this group was awesome at there peak, and now with Tony Hadley, winnning the Rebourn in the USA, he will be coming back to prominense, if you want to go and hear one of the truly great voices, then i would say go and book to see him in one of his uk tour concerts, he is going to be near grimsby near me, and i am going to go and see him. As for a comeback, Tony has said there will never be one, and i have to believe him, but if a good cause came up, you never know. one day we could hear gold like from the band again......... we can hope. This cd is the Quality it is meant to be, it is Spandau Ballet, it has the best tracks they have produced, and it is amazingly simple to listen to, and love, you can sit down and enjoy Through the Barricades, you can really relax to that song.
