Why I think, Speed cameras don't work
Review of Speed Cameras by  WormThatTurned

Advantages: Reduces speed temporarily, If used properly reduces accidents and deaths.
Disadvantages: Propaganda, Revenue raising, Being lied to and Targeted.

...cameras and continue to support them. The most common types of speed cameras are; FIXED SITE CAMERAS The fixed site Truvelo system takes a photograph of the front of a vehicle. Sensors located under the road surface detect the speed which then activates the camera and flash unit if the vehicle is exceeding the legal speed limit. Some of the housings can be turned around to face different times of the day. AVERAGE SPEED CAMERAS Digital safety cameras, which measure vehicle speeds over a set distance were first installed in Northants and Leicestershire last year but are becoming increasingly common! The cameras read the number plate of every vehicle on entry to and exit from the speed managed zone. An average speed is recorded by calculating the time taken for the vehicle to travel the distance between the entry and exit cameras... Read review

So you want Speed
Review of Urban Speed Limits by  jonwhite

Advantages: Saves lives
Disadvantages: Death on the roads. Driving disqualification or worse.

...The issue of speeding and the speed limits set on our roads is one of great debate. Each one of us will have our own opinions of the issues that it raises, the rights and wrongs, the whys and wherefores. But how many of us have seen the effects of speed first hand. I have. For 20 years I was a police officer, part of that time was spent patrolling our roads as a traffic cop (at this point I feel my circle of trust already diminishing and read rates dropping). Seriously though I have seen the effects that excess speed can have both in urban and rural areas. Each of us who drive probably feel we are the safest driver on the road, but many drivers belief in their own abilities is often misguided, misplaced or in some cases totally unsafe. The vast majority of drivers do not have a real appreciation of speed, the speed others... Read review

Speed Four Review From An Owner
Review of Triumph Speed Four by  yackers1

Advantages: Great performance, great brakes, excellent value, individual and rare
Disadvantages: Lack of aftermarket parts, expensive parts

...owned. I never, ever, thought that I would get in to the naked retro scene. It was my uncle that introduced me to retro bikes. He bought a 1993 Speed Triple and bought it over. I was hooked. The single sided swing arm, the twin head lights........ what a machine. As a result of my short, stumpy legs and pitiful 5'7" height and the 32" seat height of the Triple I never got to ride the machine. I was absolutely gutted. However, from that point I needed a naked bike. After a bit of research I found the alternatives were the Fazer, Bandit, Hornet and Monster. Other thewn the Monster nothing really inspired me. The bandit could be customised, but i had read about poor build quality. I managed to get a test ride on all and thought I had finally made my choice. It was on the drive back from testing the bandit I noticed it - A lime green... Read review

SPEEDING
Review of Views on Speeding by  ilusvm

Advantages: you "feel" that you are getting to your destination faster
Disadvantages: death, injury, you often dont get there any quicker, people are ignorant about it

...that there are many statistics. The awareness of the damage speeding does is there so why don’t be act on it? There is an advert which has been on tv lately which uses statistics to prove a point about speeding – if you hit someone at 30mph they may live but if you hit someone at 35mph it is most likely that they will die. That small difference of 5mph can distinguish between life and death. There is enough death and destruction going on in the world already, lets look after each other and watch our speed. Thanks for reading. Please let me know what you think. Em x... Read review

The Trap of Speed
Review of Views on Speeding by  e.j.kingham

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Plenty

...On this note I would like to say not only is the driver of the red car very lucky to be alive but I am too. It was not until the other witness said this to me that I realised because of one persons stupidity and despite the fact he had no passengers he still put my life and the lives of anyone else that could have been involved at risk. My friends are right, the difference between 29 and 31 or 69 and 71mph is small but it just might save a life. If I had been going any quicker, the distance between mine and his car might have been smaller and you might not be reading this now. Finally I ask you not just to observe the speed limit. Yes these are in place to improve road safety and offer guidance about the road. But they are a limit… a maximum. It is sensible to slow down as the road, weather or traffic dictates in order to provide safe roads... Read review

The Need For Speed
Review of Speed Cameras by  Kkaos

Advantages: They promote safety and do slow some people, even if only temporarily
Disadvantages: They don't catch the real speeders, cause they know where they are and slow for the camera

...This is kind of a reply to some other opinions I have read on this subject. Opinions I have read vary in whether the writer agrees with the speed limits in this country and also whether they agree with the use of speed cameras. Firstly, I would like to say that I agree with the speed limit system. That isn't to say that I don't break the speed limit... I do, in fact I usually have a personal limit of around 10mph over the speed limit, mainly due to the old age of my car. (This is on main roads, not 30 limits) If I had a newer car, I admit that I may even do more than that on the motorway. The fact is, I would be the first to admit that I am in the wrong, and I would hold up my hands and take whatever punishment I was given if caught. The speed limits in this country are set for safety. In urban areas this is usually... Read review

Drivers errors Kill, Speed helps.
Review of Views on Speeding by  Coloneljohn

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: It can lead to a guicker death for somebody

...Sorry about the rant, but an incident has set me off. I have noticed the debate about speeding. The argument would appear to be into two camps. One would have you obey all the speed limits. Keep to the rules at all times. The other talks of appropriate speed. If there is an empty road in front of you and it is clear, good weather etc, why not put the foot down and go for it. What harm can it do? Cars are made to go fast. 0-60 in a few seconds. Maximum speed 100+ if we were not meant to go that fast why are cars made to go that speed. What do advertisers always go on about? Speed! There are always speed cameras placed on dual carriageways where the poor mtorist is going to get caught and fined. What a rip off. They are not saving any lives, just making money for the police and council. Why aren’t the police out catching... Read review

SPEED CAMERAS, Brakes, What Brakes..
Review of Speed Cameras by  nadams

Advantages: Catch dangerous drivers
Disadvantages: Very unpopular

...After reading an article in a national newspaper highlighting the fact that Norfolk Police cannot afford to provide films for it’s speed cameras, this has encouraged me to write a report on speed cameras, and subsequently I have recovered from Ciao writer’s block! This opinion focuses on the background, present, and future of speed cameras. Background --------------- But why do we have speed cameras? The original intention for installing the small devices was to originally reduce motoring accidents on the roads of Britain. However, as the numbers of individuals being caught rose sharply, one fundamental problem became apparent – with thousands of cameras located around the UK, how can all films be replaced at minimal cost? The original ‘zero tolerance’ rule for speed cameras was then abolished... Read review

I have a need . . . a need for speed
Review of Need for Speed Underground 2 (PS2) by  jonesri

Advantages: Great gameplay, great graphics
Disadvantages: addictive and potentially frustrating

...I must admit to being a little slow in embracing the Playstation2 craze that has swept the world over the last few years. But when I decided that I finally wanted one (incidentally at the same time it became impossible to get hold of one – typical!) I started asking around some friends on what games I should get. With most of my mates being into their cars there seemed to be a common theme of racing games being touted around. I am not really into doing cars up (as can be seen from the state of my car) but after trying this game decided that I would have to give it a try. I have liked previous racing games (on other consoles) and after a couple of games on this I knew it was going to be something I would like. ** Background ** Need for Speed Underground 2 is the follow up game to “Need for Speed Underground” which was a huge...
