SAS v BA to ARN
Review of Scandinavian Airlines - SAS by
pilot61
Advantages: Real-life advantages if frequent flyer
Disadvantages: Tight seat pitch in all classes
...This year I have started flying SAS twice a month between Heathrow and Stockholm Arlanda (ARN in airline parlance). I sent 4 years doing the same with BA but changed allegence due to the SAS frequent flyer arrangement being better for me. Basically even though I fly economy I can still get and maintain the Gold card with SAS while I couldn't maintain that level with BA.
I don't know if it is coincidence or not but since I have got my SAS Gold card,I have got upgraded from economy to economy flex (and once to business class) 3 times out of the last 10 flights with SAS while I only received 2 upgrades during 50-60 flights with BA.
On the Stockholm flights SAS seems to have a smaller pitch between the rows of seats than BA so they feel more cramped (so try to get a seat in the emergency exit rows and benefit from a few more inches...

Cheap RAID card is perfect! (but slow)
Review of Intel RAID Controller SRCS14L by
waga
Advantages: online capacity expansion, deals with hard disc problems better
Disadvantages: slow compared to software RAID
...Dead cheap raid 5 card compared to similar others (£50 cheaper). It also allows online capacity upgrades, which basically means you can expand the size of the RAID without destroying the data on the RAID. handy!
The main reason for me getting a RAID 5 hardware solution rather than a software solution again, is the fact that even if one of the hard discs on a software RAID5 becomes slightly iffy, it drops it, and you have to rebuild!!! With hardware RAID5, it'll automatically recover, and will rebuild in the background.
This fits into my PCI-33 slot, but can alos connect to a PCI64. mmmm tasty... It has LEDs on the card for RAID access, CRC, and Drive access (4 LEDS) and it has all the necessary connectors for external LEDS too! I nearly creamed myself with the thought of 6 blue LEDS connected externally to the RAID card.
I would...

The SAS are hard even with Grant
Review of Ultimate Force - Series 1 And 2 (Box Set) by
guido31
Advantages: Guns, Action, Army, guns, the SAS (I'm a boy again)
Disadvantages: Grant from eastenders
...This was the series that brought the SAS into your living room and this box set covers the first two series that were a big hit on ITV. The episodes are based around the activities of Red Troop who are an SAS unit based in Hereford and the different situations they have to deal with.
Episode 1: The Killing house
A bank raid goes wrong, hostages are taken, the police screw up and the SAS are called in. Two new recruits have joined red troop and after the training they have received in their own environment this is the first hot situation they have to go into. Gripping and realistic, quite gruesome in parts if this is accurate it is good.
Episode 2: Just a Target
Upset group of protestors want to make a point by assasinating a European banker so hire a sniper. Red Troop have to infiltrate the gang to recover the high powered...

Radisson SAS Co. Limerick Republic of Ireland
Review of Radisson SAS Hotel & Spa, Limerick by
bananamanuk
Advantages: Location to airport, landscaped gardens, quiet location
Disadvantages: Dirty rooms, very well used, small beds, expensive, remote
...OVERVIEW
I just did a search on Ciao and noticed that there were no reviews for the Radisson SAS hotel in Co. Limerick in the Republic of Ireland and so I thought I would share my own personal experiences of the hotel in the hope that it will help others that are thinking of staying at the hotel, or at least help give a more informed opinion.
When I booked to stay at the Radisson Co. Limerick in September 2007 it was advertised as a 4 star hotel on each of the websites that I looked at. I see that Ciao is now listing it as a 3 star hotel which has prompted me to write this.
HOTEL BOOKING
As with all international hotels the Radisson SAS chain offers a useful website that details each of the hotels in the chain, provides some pictures and virtual tours of various parts of the buildings. It’s possible to view room amenities...

A little more sun in your life.
Review of Sun Netra st D130 - storage enclosure by
sjhill
Advantages: NEBS compliant, 1U Ultra SCSI disk cage.
Disadvantages: EOL was 2002
...in for larger Sun syste,s, like the E6500, ot some extra disks for a Netra, where hardware RAID isn't required.
Rackmount -
You can rack this unit in 19" and 24" racks. Obviously you don't *have* to track it, but I can tell you it is very nice seeing two of these in an E6500 holding the system disks!
Conclusions -
This is a well built product from Sun, and very handy for its intended purpose - but if you need more disk space, you need to look at a larger disk array!...

Half of a Yellow Sun
Review of Half of a Yellow Sun - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie by
perfectlypolished
Advantages: Beautifully written
Disadvantages: Images of war are never nice.
...I don't often write book reviews but I really enjoyed (if that is the right turn of phrase) this book and thought I would share my thoughts. Half of a Yellow Sun is set in Nigeria during the 1960s and the title comes from the national emblem for Biafra. Whilst I, like many others of my generation, remember the harrowing television images of starving children during the Biafrian crisis, I have to confess my understanding of the background to that crisis was quite derisory. Although this book is fiction it is set during the now well documented political revolution and, judging by the dedication at the front of the book, it is a period time during which some of the authors forefathers perished. It provides a harrowing account of the impact that war can have on civilian life; touching on issues of class and race and of tribal hostility...

Review of Ghost Force: The Secret History Of The SAS - Ken Connor by
castlebinn
Advantages: Good read
Disadvantages: Peddles SAS supermen myth. poor ending
..., including Aden, Indonesia and Northern Ireland.
He is superb on what it's like to fight in thick jungle, baking desert or
rainy bog. And he is objective enough to query the army's sanitised version of killing, such as when the SAS shot dead three unarmed IRA terrorists in Gibraltar.
His bulging contacts book also gives him the inside track on conflicts and
raids he missed such as the Iranian Embassy siege, which first catapulted
the Special Air Service into the world spotlight. He offers a definitive
account of the SAS at war and play.
But as you might expect from a veteran of a regiment which prizes brains as much as brawn, he is also lucid on why the wars he fought in broke out and what their consequences were.
He is a masterly historian and his book includes excellent analysis of
Britain's attempts to shore up its crumbling...

TH7-II Raid - a classic & still up with the best
Review of Abit Socket 478 TH7-II-RAID - mainboard - ATX - i850 by
tomsmith500
Advantages: reliable, very upgradable, fast and very over-clockable.
Disadvantages: no HT support, only USB 1.1, did anybody get built in LAN?
...BIOS and offers RAID support.
No problems with installation - I used boxed Intel CPU's and the heatsink/fan units were easy to clip down. Just a matter of pushing two levers! I did scrape off the Intel thermal compound and added a thin layer of artic silver all over the top of the CPU. The Rambus rimms slotted in just like good old Dimms. They have built in heatsinks as they get quite hot. I used 4x 128mb rimms to keep costs down. This gave me 512mb of RAM. If you only use 2 rimms, you will need to use the C-Rimms (continuity rimms) to terminate the other 2 empty slots. These are included with the board. The Rambus memory is fast - equivalent to PC3200! You need to use matched pairs though and 128mb are the best value. 256mb isn't too bad but 512mb is very expensive.
I disabled the built in sound immediately, and used a Creative Sound...

The S.A.S Survival Guide
Review of The SAS Survival Handbook - John Wiseman by
yessuf
Advantages: Very Informative
Disadvantages: A bit bulky for the rucksack!!
...I have had this book for approximately 10 years. It cost £12.99 from Ottakers.
It is roughly 10in. by 8in and weighs exactly 2lb!So,like I said above, not exactly ideal for carrying round in your rucksack. That said, there is a much smaller, abridged pocket version available for a fraction of the cost.
Although a survival handbook,it is also invaluable for the weekend walker, camper, rambler etc.In fact anyone who likes the outdoor life and is away from "civilization" for any length of time.
A Bit About The Author:
John Wiseman served with the S.A.S for 26 years. He is now a Survival Instructor for the S.A.S and also appears on various survival programmes.
The book itself is 288 pages long and divided into 11 sections.
Section 1:ESSENTIALS.
This section deals with what sort of kit to carry with you at all times. This survival kit...

Clearly some of their staff have had SAS training
Review of Scandinavian Airlines - SAS by
fam6
Advantages: Good food, nice on the ground staff
Disadvantages: Cramped, smelly plane. Air hostesses with a foul temper. Late take off
...I recently had the dubious pleasure of flying from Copenhagen to Birmingham International with the SAS.
I hate flying. There is not one thing about the experience that I enjoy. I do everything I can to avoid flying - I will spend hours on trains, smelly buses or vomit inducing ferries if it means I don't have to fly. Hwoever, when my boyfriend insisted that we get back to the UK for a football match and all my best arguments failed to convince him otherwise. I had concocted a piece of time-tabling genius that would have allowed us to get from Denmark to the UK by train - but the connection from Norway to Denmark didn't allow this (a word of advice - never trust the Swedish rail system - they are worse than ours re: reliability). So, I was presented with no escape.
We bought our tickets with 20 minutes to go before take off on what...
