Sydney - I want to go Back !
Review of Sydney (Australia) by shanemcdonald

Advantages: Excellent City, Clean streets, Great Transport, Loads to do
Disadvantages: Changable and Blustery in Winter, A Bit too far from Ireland

...I stayed in Sydney for over 10 months in 2003 and the hardest thing I had to do was to leave the place. Sydney is an amazing city, with so much to do you will never get bored. From the Harbour area to the beaches of Bondi - theres something for everyone. When we arrived we did the usual tourist trips, Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Trips on the Harbour Ferries, Centrepoint Tower but as time went on we found a hidden Sydney. These are areas or items in Sydney which are not on the usual tourist trail. Places like Suzannah Place in the Rocks which documents early life around 1830, and how the working classes lived. It is a living museum. Other areas of interest included Balmain, Manly, Paddington and Potts Point. We were lucky enough to be there for the New Years Eve fireworks and they are as amazing as people say. However if you... Read review

A Dream Come True (SYDNEY)
Review of Sydney (Australia) by LukeyBoy

Advantages: Great Tourist Attractions, Nice Beaches, Hot, Cheaper in some places than the UK
Disadvantages: Long Flight, Not easy to get around

...Since I was a teenager I had always wanted to tour Australia, and finally as I hit 18 I booked my first visit to Sydney. From the minute I stepped on Emirates Airlines I was satisfied. It was a fabulous, unforgettable experience. I flew from London Heathrow to Sydney and spent three weeks staying in Hotel InterContinental Sydney, which was probably the most expensive but luxiourus hotel I have ever stayed in. I spent the first two or three days relaxing at the hotel, going to it's gym, the pool and having a look around the city. We spent the time looking at the tourist attractions, including The Sydney Opera House, where we dined and watch a production, which was absoultey spectacular, we did a Captain Cook Dinner cruise around the Sydney harbour which had a tasty menu, which we enjoyed and ofcourse I could not leave Sydney without... Public Transport in and around Sydney
Review of Sydney (Australia) by mickey1949

Advantages: Cheap and easy to use
Disadvantages: none

...My wife and I went to Sydney for our son’s wedding in November 2003. We didn’t know what to expect but had a brilliant time and can’t wait to go back and enjoy everything we didn’t get chance to do and all those things we’d like to do again. Getting around Sydney is easy and cheap. You can start saving immediately you arrive at the airport by purchasing a “TravelPass”. These can be purchased at the International rail station, which is located below T1 (International Terminal) and is reached from inside the terminal on the arrivals level. The journey into Sydney takes 13 minutes and trains run every 10 minutes. The station in Sydney links directly to the City Circle which means that most city attractions and hotels are within a few minutes walk of either Central, Museum, St James, Circular Quay, Wynyard and Town Hall stations. However... Read review

THE TRAVELLERS DREAM
Review of Sydney (Australia) by michellej

Advantages: There is everything here to suit everyone
Disadvantages: nuffink

...Sydney is great, full to the brim of wacky and weird people which is what I like to see in a major city. Variety! There are many areas in Sydney that would take a very long time to explore properly. As you know, the Olympics are here in the year 2000, September! When they won it was beer on the house! Great stuff. One of the most controversial areas in Sydney is Kings Cross, with night-clubs that stay open until 7 am, (just in time for work!), great restaurants and scenes that will probably make your jaw drop. Sydney is the gay capital of the world and things just go crazy when the Mardegra is on, you can see it all in Kings Cross. From Kings Cross, if you wander towards Woomolloo, there is a great pub that plays great live acts. From there, you're not too far from the Opera House and the city. The Opera House is absolutely... Sydney NSW
Review of Sydney (Australia) by VictoriaD

Advantages: Great atmosphere, food and freindly people
Disadvantages: Distance to travel to get there

...Sydney is a great city to visit, with lots to see and do that will interest all the family. Children will love the ferries that operate in Sydney harbour that make 'getting there' part of the fun of a good day out. The best views of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge can be seen from the ferry from double bay! The Opera House is an amazing sight, but we found it prety inaccessible with a buggy. nearby there is the Rocks which on Saturday and Sunday is home to a fantastic craft market where you can but all sorts of goodies at great prices. Eating out is cheap, by UK standards, and there are so many places to choose from - buy a copy of 'Cheap Eats' which lists pretty much every restaurant in Sydney worth going to (not just the cheap ones). we particularly enjoyed Doyle's Fish Restaurant at Watsons Bay, Limoncello in Double Bay... Sydney and Australia - The best Vibe in The World
Review of Sydney (Australia) by Steved21

Advantages: Atomsphere. Many places to go and do.
Disadvantages: Huge country, and big distances between destinations.

...I was fortunate enough to travel Australia for six months and found Sydney was by far my favourite location. Be it the Sydney Bridge, Opera house or Bondi beach all of it was great. For me though, the best part was the vibe and atomsphere of the place. Maybe its the weather, but the place was constantly buzzing and the people were helpful and always had a smile on their face. George Street in particular was best for this. On top of that, there is always something to do. The beaches, Bondi, Palm and my favourite Cogee. A little less heard of, but still has the surf, sand, people and surprisingly nightlife at the hotel. On top of that, theres excursions away, such as the seven (or six now) apostles, Wildlife tours and if your adventureous, sky diving and bungee diving. The Resturants, Bars and nightlife are endless. My recommendation... Read review

Sydney- The city of down under
Review of Sydney (Australia) by Kimsy

Advantages: What a beautiful city!!!
Disadvantages: Don't go when it's really hot or when there are tonnes of tourists

...I had the opportunity to visit Sydney, Australia in March of 1999. This was the most beautiful city I have ever seen! From the transportation, to the accommodations, to the people, everything was superb. Sitting right on the harbour, it offers great sunrises, and lovely crisp days. In March, it rains more often than not, however the rain lasting several hours and stopping for the rest of the day. The transportation system is incredible. Whether by bus, car, or ferry, there is virtually no problems, at least none that I came across. If you have any questions about how to get around or where to go, asking someone on the street does quite well as the people there are very friendly. For those interested in some tourist highlights, I would recommend the following: 1. The Harbour Bridge Climb: For AU$100, you can view Sydney Harbour... Read review

Independent Traveller's Sydney
Review of Sydney (Australia) by C.Laslett

Advantages: Loads to see and do. Quite cheap
Disadvantages: Busy

...Sydney has everything to suit an independent traveller on a budget. There is plenty of cheap accommodation, lots to see and do, excellent transportation and a whole lot more. I arrived by train, at the Central station. Situated literally just accross the road from this is the Sydney Central YHA, a huge, fantastic youth hostel. However, in spite of being so massive, its many facilities make it extremely popular so my advice is to book in advance. If you don't want to stay here, there are many other backpacker-type places splashed all over the city and its suberbs. Getting around Sydney is easy. it has a fantastic public transport system which includdes buses, tram-type trains and even a monorail system. However, when you have a little more time on your hands make sure to walk around the city, it is truly amazing. There is lots to do... Read review

Simply Sydney
Review of Sydney (Australia) by TimothyC

Advantages: A nice city with too many things to visit and see
Disadvantages: None

...It is one of the best if not the best capital cities in the world, I know its not Australia’s capital, but it is the capital of the territory. Definitely the way to get round is to use the public transport as the trains, buses and ferries are very cheap and can get you to most places in Sydney within minutes. If you can afford it take a coach tour around Sydney, they only take 3 to 4 hours and you get a flavour of the area, useful if you haven’t got a car. Places to visit have got to include the following: - The opera house, which even if you don’t go there to see a show it is one of those things that is recognised the world over as Australian. The harbour bridge, for those who haven’t got a car and are on the Sydney side of the bridge there is a set of steps from the Rocks area up to the bridge deck itself. From here you can see... Review of The Regent Sydney, Sydney by gunda96

Advantages: luxurious, great location, great service, 5 stars
Disadvantages: A little bit on the expensive side
