Reviews of the history of scotland
Scotland
Review of General: Scotland by
mhatherall
Advantages: Lots to see and do, good food, Great scenery
Disadvantages: Children will get bored very quick
...What a place is Scotland.
My partner and myself have just got back from spending a week in Scotland, and we had a great time.
There is so much history in Scotland that you are never stuck for something to do or somewhere to go. We made the effort to visit most of Scotland’s famous places such as Ben Nevis, Fort William, and of course the most famous Loch Ness. Loch Ness for me was the highlight of the trip, we went on two boat trips upon the Loch and got different information from each skipper, the second however seemed to be the best our skipper was the person who found the deepest part of the Loch, he has been there all his life and has studied the Loch and her mysteries since he can remember, from him there is no talk of a Monster but rather a Mammals who has adapted themselves to become completely aquatic.
But as I began to say...

Independent Scotland? Don't hold your breath!
Review of Kososvo declares independence from Serbia. If Kosovo why not Scotland? by
BigCS
Advantages: It might shut Sean Connery up from prattling on about it
Disadvantages: Far too many to list here!
...The only people who would seriously benefit from an independent Scotland would be the beaurocrats, accountants and politicians who would work such a plan to their own financial advantage. Me? I'm a Scot living in England, have been for over 10 years now, and see no reason for us to become separate nations after all these hundreds of years. The current autonomy which has been granted via devolved parliament is fine as it is. Taking it that final step further would do more damage than good in the UK as a whole, and create more ill feeling between two generally friendly countries. Do you really want to have to use a passport to nip over the border from Carlisle to Scotland so you can get the ferry to Northern Ireland? Imagine the problems at sporting occasions, current friendly rivalry would likely become outright war!
Much as I admire...

Freedom.
Review of Braveheart DVD by
daseaford
Advantages: Great passion - excellent acting.
Disadvantages: A bit gory.
...this leadership and respect developed.
There are many battle scenes and these are very gory and there is a lot of blood and killing. If seeing limbs flying off at the swipe of a sword is not your cup of tea, then don’t watch this film. BUT, the passion and violence shows the determination of the men to fight for their country and it is filmed with spectacular realism. The special effects and make-up teams must have been on a lot of overtime for the making of this film.
The cast of extras is enormous and the direction of the battles is expertly done. At three hours this is a bit longer than the average film, but there is a big story to tell and this film does it very well.
There is also an excellent soundtrack that adds to the atmosphere of the film.
The battles between England and Scotland was a major period of our history and this film...

Another 16 Year Olds Debating Review
Review of Kososvo declares independence from Serbia. If Kosovo why not Scotland? by
scotlandizdabest
Advantages: Two free countries, Everybody benefits
Disadvantages: Unhappy political tension :(
...a majority in power. Labour's Donald Dewar became the first First Minister of Scotland, which is equivalent to the Prime Minister.
So all this has happened, and I am making it sound a little bit like a history lesson here but I want you to get a background of this 'story'.
Now, at the moment there is the SNP government in power in Scotland, which is surely not telling something? The SNPs most well known policy is Independence from the rest of Britain. Other parties like the Scottish Conservative Party have now added into their name "Scottish Conservative AND Unionist Party." Just for anyone that does not know a Scottish Unionist is someone in favor for the union and wants Scotland to stay with the UK. Labour and Liberal Democrats have also declared their strong opposition to independence. The Green Party showed their support along...

Visit Scotland for scenery not sunshine
Review of General: Scotland by
setimerenptah
Advantages: Culture, history, friendly, scenery.
Disadvantages: Weather, midges.
...identity. If you are visiting Britain then you should make sure and visit Scotland. History, scenery, culture and friendly down-to-earth people makes for an excellent holiday destination.
The best time to visit if you want good weather would be between June and September. However if the weather doesn't bother you (and it gets really cold and wet) then you will find it less busy and easier to explore during the rest of the year. Many people also visit Edinburgh specifically for the Hogmanay or New Years celebration which includes many outdoor stages with live music, street performers and a joyous and welcoming atmosphere. However it gets very busy so book well in advance....

A history of whispers and forgetfulness
Review of The Sea Kingdoms: The History of Celtic Britain and Ireland - Alistair Moffat by
steerpyke
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...In a time pre-dating the Romans, Britain and Ireland was inhabited by a race of people that are known to history as the Celts. Gradually displaced by the incursions of Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans, these people were either intergrated or marginalised by the later cultures and became only a shadow of their former self. We hear some much about Celtic heritage, but who were they and what remains of them today? On the Atlantic borders there is still whisper of them, Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the English west coast all contain evidence for these people, and Alistair Moffat has set out to find out about these people in The Sea Kingdoms.
One of the reasons that these people are so hard to trace is that subsequent invaders have either converted them or changed their virtues to vices and encouraged their downfall. The advent...

One problem always leads to another.
Review of Kososvo declares independence from Serbia. If Kosovo why not Scotland? by
costas1234
Advantages: No comment
Disadvantages: No comment lol
...by non strict Islamic principles are historically divided.
This way of thinking has in my view, has distilled lol, ok diluted Scotland's hope's of it being independant from Britain. My knowledge of politics and the implications that surround EU membership regarding the political veto. This in practise would mean that only one EU country voting against the proposal would throw out both Kosovo's EU entry, and also Scotlands grim chances of success.
On the other side of the coin, unrcognised rogue nations such as Northern Cyprus, Somaliland, Transnistria, would all welcome Kosovo's indenpendence and would potentially lead to similar future independence victories, based on the precedenct set by Kosovo. This side of the story enhances Scotland's case for independance and EU membership. This is really a case of repeating history, creating one...
