Regent Street
Review of Regent Street (London) by
charlotte_edmundson
Advantages: Hamleys
Disadvantages: Too many people, too much traffic
...If you haven't been to London before, then go to Regent Street. Less chain-store oriented than Oxford Street, its best feature is easily Hamleys, with over 5 floors of toys and games. There is a great ice-cream shop close to the Piccadilly Circus end, as well as Cheers bar, themed on the American TV show, and lots of specialist shops like the Apple store, and Liberty's is just round the corner. However, if you've been to London before, then avoid this street, as it is always packed with people, and Saturdays are a complete nightmare. There are many better places to see, and I much prefer the streets leading off it, like Carnaby, which have more interesting shops, and are a lot less manic....

The Open Air Theatre
Review of Regentīs Park (London) by
aliali
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Dispite the dreadful weather, if there is a dry day the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park is a wonderful place to visit. The Park itself is an excellent place to wander around and have a lazy afternoon. This year the programme seems interesting with A Mid Summers Nights Dream and Alice in Wonderland being part of the session.
Don't forget there is London Zoo close by, as are Madame Tausauds and the Planetarium. And not very far is the Wallace Colletion towards Oxford Street, which has recently been renovated including a fine cafe and restaurant.
I've been converted to the place over the last three years and have always had a brilliant time. But, take a brolly just in case !...

A Pauper's Palace
Review of Regent Palace Hotel, London by
fizzytom
Advantages: Superb location, cheap rates considering location
Disadvantages: Rubbish breakfast, tiny bathrooms, slow service
...down breakfast, the hotel has "Café Nescafe" in the lobby - basically a couple of tables and chairs and a counter serving overpriced coffee and pastries.
If you need something a little stronger the hotel also has its own bar - O'Callaghans; its an Irish themed place according to the blurb - about as Irish as Tony Cascarino or Andy Townsend if you ask me! Why would you want to sit in this dreary hole when you could be out enjoying some of the coolest or the cosiest places in London right on the doorstep?
The hotel has various categories of room available and it is possible to pay a little more (see the website for current prices) and get a slighlty higher stadard of room - in the ones shown on the website some of the soft furnishings actually match! All "Regent" rooms come with ensuite facilities - the most basic rooms have a washbasin...

Terrific book
Review of Playing the Moldovans at Tennis - Tony Hawks by
jmagill
Advantages: Very Funny
Disadvantages: Drags slightly in places
...I saw "Playing the Moldovans at Tennis" at the airport and I had seen a report on it on Grandstand or some other such sports show and I tohught it looked quite funny. I bought it and proceede to read it an I must say it really is very funny. The scenario is incredible when you stop and think about it. Two guys(who both happen to be fairly famous comedians) are sitting and watching England v. Moldova and since England are cruising to an easy victory they start to have an argument as to whether Tony Hawks can beat them all at tennis. He argues he can and his friend Arthur Smith argues he can't. Arthur Smith then bets Tony Hawks he can't do it and Tony sets out torove him wrong, with the loser having to strip off naked and sing the moldovan national anthem on the high street.
This is the whole premise and the book charts Tony Hawks...

Haven for Waterbirds and People
Review of Regentīs Park (London) by
ashford
Advantages: Lovely Park. Beautifully Maintained. Good Facilities
Disadvantages: Does get busy
...to the park is Baker Street and plenty of buses ply the route from the West End.
There is actually a lot to see and do in this gorgeous, verdant, expanse. You can walk, jog, run, take your dog for a walk, eat your sandwiches, have an afternoon picnic, have a cup of cappucinno in one of the cafes and restaurants, gaze at the flowers, listen to music at the bandstand, feed the ducks and admire all the other waterbirds on the pond.
You can also watch outdoor performances,go boating, hire a cycle, play soccer, and take your kids to the children's playground. The Queen Mary Rose Garden attracts a lot of visitors who ooh and ah as they gaze at all the wonderful flowers. There is the Heron Island and its no wonder that bird watchers just love Regents Park.
You can rent a boat or a bicycle and whether it is active or passive recreation you are after...

Londons finest
Review of Regentīs Park (London) by
Guccilady
Advantages: Beautiful park, well maintained, numerous facilities.
Disadvantages: Cafes slightly expensive, films etc very expensive
...display of roses you could imagine with hundreds if not thousands of fragrant roses (yes they actually do have a fragrance which seems to have been lost in the mass grown roses today). The Queen Marys Rose gardens are a must for a visit, in the centre there is a lake with a small island which you can get to by way of a quaint wooden bridge, the island is tiny and houses other little surprises such as a waterfall, a perfect place for photographs. Whilst I was there I was lucky enough to see 2 black swans with 2 new babies (ahhh). The park is a peaceful haven away from the bustle of London, infact its hard to remember that you're in the centre of London. Regents Park is something we can be very proud of.
Other information:
Location - about 2 minutes walk from Baker Street Tube.
Other places of interest: London zoo based on the edge of the park...

The Zoo
Review of London Zoo, London by
alias_jester
Advantages: Good for kids, queues short
Disadvantages: If you believe animals should have as much space as in the wild
...to present a more eco-friendly, conservation-centred picture. I say 'tried' because this is central London and therefore no safari park. You should not expect the appalling conditions of Eastern European zoos. In fact the animals are cared for very well but equally the Lions don't have acres of space to roam around in.
The Zoo stretches to the other side of Regent's canal. Don't miss this part because, in addition to some of the less exciting animals, it holds the birdhouse which is great fun to walk through, especially for kids.
The Nearest tube is Camden Town but I advise getting off at Euston Square or Baker Street and walking up through Regent's Park. It does not take the whole day to see the Zoo and continuing the walk over Primrose Hill to Hampstead is very nice and will leave you tired enough to enjoy a coffee and something to eat in one...

Great Shopping.... If Your Female!
Review of Regent Arcade -Cheltenham by
sghawken
Advantages: Stylish shopping centre
Disadvantages: Lacking in male orientated stores (excluding the stores you need a second mortgage to shop in)
...really.
The Regent Arcades toilets are on the first floor, opposite the Sony store. This is also where you can enter the first level of the 600 space car park.
The Regent Arcade is expertly managed, by the same managerial team for quite some time. If I have one complaint about the Centre it's the security staff, you'll often find them grouped together in groups of four or more taking the piss out of people; in particular they like to pick on people's fashion choices. I find this rather appalling and all but two of the security staff seem to engage in this.
The cleaning staff keep the centre clean and tidy, spillage's are cleaned up very quickly indeed and these guys are far more friendly and approachable than the security staff, and seemingly more knowledgeable too.
The Regent Arcade is a nice centre, but as I said earlier it certainly...

Leeming
Advantages: level editor
Disadvantages: none
...since tony hawks 1 tou have been hooked on them you cant escape how good they actually are. Theres thrasher skate and destroy, street sk8er and mtv skateboarding. None of these games are better than tony hawks 1 But now the release of Tony Hawks 2 all these games are put to shame even the original Tony Hawks. Suckers Night out
Review of Strawberry Moon (London) by
Cerulean
Advantages: Cheesy Music
Disadvantages: Crowded with Tourists
...Strawberry Moon - just of a little side street on London's busy Regent Street.
WHY?
I accidently ended up in Strawberry Moon after my other half's work do - after they'd served us all the drink they'd let us drink in at the bar of The Langham Hilton we ventured on for somewhere that would serve us more alcohol. We lost a few on the way - but us hardcore party goers made it somehow to the only club we were able to find along the backstreets of London's Regent Street.
THE ATMOSPHERE:
After the initial unfriendly entry to the club - the security staff weren't really that chatty - I ventured in to fight my way through the overcrowded top bar to the bottom bar and cloakroom - the moment I entered I knew we were going to need a lot more to drink - several lechy guys tried to pounce immediately only spurred off by the friendly smile...
