Reviews of towel rail
Not By Rail
Review of British Rail by
CareBear
Advantages: will get you from A to B - eventually
Disadvantages: need I comment?
...By way of opening, yes, I am aware that BR does not exist anymore. This however, is an opinion about the whole rail network and it seemed fitting to put it here, after all, as you will see, BR had its merits.
Many of us rely on rail travel every day and there can be few people who have never been on a train. Whether we use the railways for daily commuting or the occasional trip away we should be able to rely on the fact that there will be trains, that they will turn up on time and get to their destination with the minimum of delay.
That’s what should happen. In reality we are faced with a crippled rail network, poor rolling stock and high prices. Rail travel is no longer guaranteed to get you to your destination on time or at all. The infrastructure has got so bad that from every corner there is a cry. The public blame...

Good towels But no wings
Review of Interlude Sanitary Towels by
purebitch
Advantages: They are long providing full coverage
Disadvantages: No wings to hold them in place
...I always buy Always Ultra towels, but last month I was caught unexpectably without. The shop I went to didn't have Always towels, so I had to choose another brand.
I do not like cheap sanitary towels, as it feels like you have a matress between your legs. So instead of choosing those, I decided to try Interlude.
I had never heared of this brand before, but they were for heavy flow and night time use, which is what I was after.
********************PACKAGING********************
These sanitary towels come in a lilac wrapping, with white strips down both sides and along the bottom.
On the front is the name of the product, and a picture of one of the towels. Next to the towel, is the quantity that you are buying. In this instance, there are 12 towels in this pack.
On the back of the packaging, all the writing is in black...

Hooded towels
Review of Hooded Baby Towels by
daniellesadler
Advantages: look pretty, usually soft
Disadvantages: expensive, small, pretty useless
...I have fallen into the trap of buying hooded towels for both of my children and each time wondering why I bothered.
Basically what they are are very small towels, more like hand towels, with an extra triangle shaped piece of towel sown into one corner in order to make a hood.
This time I chose a Mothercare pack of three towels in shades of pink and white. This cost me £12, but if you shop around you can find them slightly cheaper at around £3 per towel, or a lot more expensive like toys r us at £9.99 per towel!
I was disapointed with the mothercare ones as while in the pack they look quite thick and soft but upon opening you realise that the thickness comes from layers of cardboard wedged in between each towel! They are thin and not exactly rough but they could be softer.
The idea is that you put the hood over the babys head...

one towel too many
Review of Hooded Baby Towels by
anwar
Advantages: baby looks cute in it
Disadvantages: expensive purchase
...I was given one of these hooded towels as a present when my son was born 18 months ago.I was of course delighted to receive it,just so you don't think i'm an ungrateful ill mannered individual! However having said that it's not something I would have bought for myself for the following reasons-
1.The towel is very expensive, mine came from mothercare and cost £10!Probably because it had winnie the on!
2.The towel is quite small(about 100x50 cm)and didn't last very long.I only used it for about 2 months.
3.I found the towel difficult to fold as the hood means you have to fold it diagonally.Yes I know that's sad but I like my towels in a neat folded pile in the airing cupboard!
Now for a more detailed description-The towel is about 100cm-50cm.It is 85%cotton and has a hood on one corner. The idea is that you wrap the baby...

Off the Rails? Should have got off at Barking!
Review of Off the Rails - Lisa St Aubin De Teran by
fizzytom
Advantages: Compelling, evocative, unusual
Disadvantages: Leaves questions unanswered
...Before I read "Off the Rails: The Memoirs of a Train Addict", I knew virtually nothing about its author, Lisa St. Aubin de Teran. Now, the woman is a complete enigma! I spent much of the time I was reading this book shaking my head in wonderment; from an unconventional childhood, through the most bizarre of marriage proposals to a life dragging her children around Europe to satisfy he own whims, Lisa St. Aubin de Teran is one of life's eccentrics and in "Off the Rails" she explains the attraction of rail travel and tries to show how her unusual childhood laid the foundations for her adult life.
I bought the book on impulse from E-bay, recognizing only the name of the author because I remembered that she had featured in one of the episodes of the BBC's "Great Rail Journeys of the World". Digging deeper into her background reveals...

Super-absorbant little towel
Review of LittleLife Lifeventure Trek Towels by
alimason
Advantages: Aborbant, small for packing
Disadvantages: a bit small
...I purchase one of these about a year ago and it has been fairly good. There are many advantages this has over a regular beach towel, but the disadvantages are also highly apparent.
But firstly the advantages:
1. It is unbelievable small compared to a regualr towel and with its size comes a huge decrease in weight too. Now although this is especially important for trekkers and backpackers it is also useful for holiday makers who want to save that bit more space in their suitcase.
2. Unlike normal holiday towels this one is super absorbant too. They are very small and you only just keep your dignity but with this tiny towel you can easily dry your whole body.
3. They are very soft too, which i suppose is connected to their absorbancy, so when you lay it down on the beach its actually nice to lay ontop of it unlike the rather...

Moust famous rail bridge in the world
Review of The Forth Rail Bridge by
dingoo
Advantages: staggering to see, great to travel over, great views, local pub
Disadvantages: cold wet and rainy
...The fourth rail bridge
The bridge and me
I have been to the fourth rail bridge a couple of times and over it once, it is a wonder of great Victorian engineering.
From its colour to its size it is a beast and quite ugly yet uncannily endearing, the colour draws you to it like moths to light bulbs, you can see the big cantilever frame from many miles around.
As you get ever closer you realize indeed how big and bigger feat it was to construct this daring/beast like entity, although it serves an less grand purpose of carrying trains in this day it was a mean feet in 1890 the year of its completion.
You also find it amazing near the bridge, the noise the cold and the salty smell; this bridge is out on a limb and ravaged by the elements.
We also know the famous painting theory of once one paint session is finished they have...

Review of Bradt Travel Guide to USA by Rail - Bradt Travel Guide by
Eileenrose
Advantages: Lots of great information and tips
Disadvantages: None
...I visited the USA this summer and travelled around most of the country by train, which was really enjoyable and inexpensive and made it possible to see many places that are otherwise more of a problem to visit (such as the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon and desert country).
US train travel is quite different to anything I've encountered anywhere else so it was essential to have John Pitt's guidebook USA by Rail guidebook to help me find my way around. A new edition has recently been published so it's bang up to date with all the latest trains (including Amtrak's superb high-speed Acela, capable of 150 mph) and has route guides for all long-distance trains in the States and Canada. The associated USA by Rail website (http://www.usa-by-rail.com) has lots of useful free information, including rail pass prices, route details, travel...

More about the fixings in my smallest room
Review of Canterbury pine towel ring by
mumsymary
Advantages: keeps the towels of the floor
Disadvantages: none
...B& Q towel ring
Come into my small room again.
There is little standing room, but when you have used the facilities we have installed please wash your hands then if you would like to remove and use the forest green hand towel please look at the beautiful towel ring that was holding it. It matches the toilet roll holder.!!
Yes I spent more money in B&Q it is a Canterbury antique pine effect towel ring cost me £9.98.
Since my underthestairs cloakroom is only tiny we chose a towel ring rather than a rail it measures 130x86x70mm.
The towel ring is fitted on the wall next to the hand washbasin. Where it is convenient to dry your hands.
It is fitted in the same way, as the toilet roll holder two screws have to be screwed into the wall first.
We had to fit it onto a plasterboard wall so it needed plaster board screws to fit...

Rail Simulator (PC)
Review of Rail Simulator (PC) by
tjjackson
Advantages: Superb graphics, sound and realism
Disadvantages: Lack of route mileage and activities
...Step back to a time when the UK rail system was the envy of the world. Rail Simulator allows you to drive some of the greatest diesel, electric and steam locomotives ever built.
If you're familiar with Microsoft Train Simulator then let me tell you that Rail Simulator beats it hands down with superior sound quality, blistering graphics and realistic train handling. The controls are also very similar to those of MSTS meaning you can begin driving as soon as the software is installed.
My only complaint is that the developers have focused so much on the fine detail of the four routes included on the disc, that they have neglected to include route mileage.
The number of activities provided is also quite low, but you'll find many more on the Official Expansion Pack and the UK Train Sim website.
Definitely one to purchase...
