Transcend - buy over Sandisk!
Review of Transcend TS8GSDHC Secure Digital 8192 MB by
technosplat
Advantages: Very fast transfer rate, strong, looks good, smells pretty, cheap
Disadvantages: None
...I am very impressed!
After recently upgrading from my Canon 350D to 450D I needed a high capacity, fast memory card as the 450 takes SD (secure digital) not CF (compact flash) as the 350 does.
As a professional photographer it's vital that I have the best kit I can afford. I was a little worried about buying Transcend over Sandisk, but with such a huge financial saving I thought I'd give Transcend a go. I'm very glad I did!
The Transcend 8Gb SDHC (secure digital high capacity) memory card performs excellently - trandfer speeds are very very good. It's rated at 'speed 6', the same as the most expensive Sandisk Ultra cards selling for over twice the price.
One thing to mention - SDHC cards cannot be read by all memory card readers - generall only the newer ones will read SD cards over 2Gb.
I would highly recommend this card...

transcend is as good as other manufacturers
Review of Transcend 2 GB SD Card 150x by
FirstToTry
Advantages: fast, value for money, vista readyboost compatible
Disadvantages: none
...The 2Gb SD card from Transcend should be your first choice, often looked at as inferior to kingston and other manufactures however the performance of the card is the same and by comparing the prices you get more for what you pay.
Fast transmission from card to pc and large capacity; with a 6 megapixel camera which is standard these days you can store around 600-700 pictures which is more than enough for a whole holiday.
You can also use the sd card for vista's readyboost function - simply insert the card in a slot (or card reader) and if you are not automatically promted/given choice what to do next, go to my computer and right click on the sd card icon. choose property and then navigate to the readyboost tab, where you can choose how much memory you want to make available to readyboost.
What is readyboost? It is a feature within...

A KICK IN THE TEETH FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
Review of Music Industry Versus Internet by
mdstone
Advantages: Free Mp3 downloads, cheap online CD prices
Disadvantages: Artists out of pocket??
...The debate between the Music Industry and the Internet has been on-going since Shawn Fanning (a university student at the time) first developed Napster (A music community for sharing MP3).
The Internet has certainly raised a lot of issues since it's existance. Internet pundits had raised issues on politics and pornography to great length, but it was a suprise to most, that one of the most important issues would revolve around a compression technology called MP3 or MPEG Audio Layer 3.
Ultimately, we are raising 2 issues here:
* The availability of illegal MP3s
* Online CD retaliers purchasing their goods outside of europe to sell in the UK
The first part of this debate will focus on the MP3 side.
What was all the fuss about?
***********************************************
Many complaints were made about Napster...

Discover Sheffield's Industrial Past!
Review of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Sheffield by
micksheff
Advantages: Educational, Plenty To See And Do
Disadvantages: Not Very Accessible For Disabled, Closed In Winter, Not Free
...The Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is one of only two Grade 1 Listed Buildings in Sheffield and it has also been designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Originally called the Abbeydale Works this is a unique Industrial site that dates from at least 1714. Many of the things here are still operated by original water wheels on the River Sheaf, that flows through the site, and all of the machinery here is still in full working order.
The Industrial history of this part of Sheffield goes back over 800 years and although the first written records of the Abbeydale Works date from 1714 it is known that there were already many established Industries in this area and dozens of water wheels had been built along this stretch of the River Sheaf.
As long ago as the thirteenth century the Monks from nearby Beauchief Abbey had a water wheel...

Industrial Revelation!
Review of The Industry, Chesterfield by
tange
Advantages: A good friendly community pub.
Disadvantages: I can't live there all of the time!
...Although we like to travel to visit interesting and new pubs it is often nice to pop to the pub around the corner! It is good to have a place nearby that you can nip to without worrying about taxis, buses or having to trek miles for a beer and some food. We have a pub like that just a couple of streets away; a pub that has become our local and a bit of a home from home. This little pub is The Industry!
~~~WHERE IS IT?
The Industry can be found on Queens Street - more or less opposite the shops on Newbold Road (the end near to the centre of Chesterfield). It is about five minutes walk from the town centre and even less from my house, so really does constitute my local pub. It is just off the main road and has houses and shops nearby, along with the amenities of the centre of town.
~~~THE OUTSIDE.
The pub is set back from...

A real Giant of the Gaming Industry.
Review of Industry Giant 2 (PC) by
pumfster
Advantages: Great range of industries, addictive
Disadvantages: Can become slightly too easy after a while.
...Having never played the original Industry Giant game, I was unsure of what to make of this when it was first released. Great reviews from magazines and gamers alike, yet I was still worried. Would it be like Sim City repackaged, a copy of the mighty Railroad Tycoon or various other more dodgy games?
Well thankfully the answer to all of these questions is an emphatic NO. Industry Giant 2 really is one of the best sim type games ever produced. The range of options is huge, with both single and multiplayer modes included.
The system requirements of this game are not too taxing on modern PC's. I would recommend a 400MHz processor with at least 64MB RAM. In addition an 8 speed CD-ROM with 3D graphics card are needed and the game will take around 800MB of hard drive space once saved games are taken into account.
Now onto the game...

Now That’s (The) Entertainment (Industry)!
Review of Has the entertainment industry run out of original ideas? by
joycefricken
Advantages: Bigger & better explosions & special effects!!
Disadvantages: Aging action heros run for governor of Calif.
...Well just the phrase alone.. "The Entertainment Industry" makes me think of an assembly line. A place where products are churned out as quickly and cheaply as possible. Where style and variety take a backseat to the unattainable goal of "pleasing" all of the people all of the time.
Hell.. it makes me think of Hollywood!
But Is It Art?
Art? Where'd that come from? What's art gotta do with it? Why do I feel the need to validate entertainment by looking for it's artistic quality? Talk about the unattainable!!
Still within every film, every piece of music, every written word that is offered us there must be a little artistic quality. It is the "soul" (for lack of a thesaurus) that gives it life. It is the spark that causes that initial connection. It is why you can hear someone say "I love that movie" or "I hate that song...

Fred Dibnah's Industrial Age
Review of Fred Dibnah's Industrial Age DVD by
Martinscholes
Advantages: Educational, entertaining, charming
Disadvantages: With Fred? Don't be so soft! (IE None)
...Fred Dibnah's Industrial Age is a wonderful DVD. It is packed with great programmes made by Fred Dibnah for the BBC, and is released by Beckmann (www.beackmandirect.com) who are based on the Isle of Mann.
The first programme is Wind, water and steam. Fred talks of early uses of these power sources. He takes us to Saxtead Green Post Mill, which is in Suffolk and then in typical Fed style, we find ourselves haring off up the length of England all the way to Cumbria, where we find ourselves with Fred at Muncaster Mill. There are craftsmen and women there who still employ the ancient power of wind and water (not steam!) to power the devices they use to pursue their crafts.
Of course, Fred demonstrates his own skills (which are many and very varied) showing examples of his own restoration work. He also chats with friends about how...

City of Industry.
Review of City Of Industry DVD by
Mohammed
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...nothing, we can feel his fury and frustration building - this is Keitel at his best. All the acting in this movie is great - the four male leads are well- cast and work well together, and Jorge's wife Rachel is sympathetic as a young mother who wants to do what's best for her kids. Elliot Gould has a small part as a loan shark and Lucy Liu shows up briefly as an exotic dancer. The locations are interesting - this is the true dark side of L.A., and the ending - though violent- is satisfying and stays with you. This movie also has one of the best soundtracks I've heard. City of Industry will grab you and pull you in at the opening credits and not let you go until the very end....

Transcend Nihilism with the will
Review of Written from the Heart by
jonkelly
Advantages: use your imagination and creativity
Disadvantages: takes practice
...Transcend Nihilism with the 'no' thing! by J R Kelly
In order to transcend nihilism we need to think of differences. Man more than rational. Western society has the conception of man as rational. Thinking can overcome the rational a transformation. Getting to the bottom of mans rational thinking is then in order to transcend the mind and in doing so to be able to overcome the ordinary function of the human mind. The reason for this is that reason, has to be overcome in order to think. Over coming normal thinking and conceptual thinking are then equal.
Humanism if forgeting difference and a focus on beings pre-established notions of nature, history, of the world, a collective sense. Man is more than this he is his relationship to his self this matters. This is more inclusive it is a fundamental ontology. Humanism is a measure...
