Aulla
Review of Lunigiana (Italy) by
giannit
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The recent growth of business has turned Aulla into an important link for exchanges between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna (the region next to Tuscany). A large Exhibition Complex hosts numerous Fairs taking place the whole year round. Very little is left of the old town; the Brunella Fortress is, however, well worth a visit. It is a manor house of great dimension, which is now home to the Natural History Museum of Lunigiana.
To be seen in the vicinity of Aulla: Bibola, Caprigliola and Podenzana, the village where the 'Panigacci' (a type of food
baked in terra-cotta earthenware dishes) originates....

Grotta del vento (Wind cave)
Review of Tuscany (Italy) by
giannit
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...In the "GROTTA DEL VENTO" (the "Wind Cave"), stalagtites, drippings, alabaster drapes and stalagmites can be admired along a safe and easy path, climbing up overhanging walls, passing over crystal-clear ponds and running along an underground stream.
The visit is divided into five different tours taking from at least one hour (tour number one) up to three hours (the complete tour, the longest-lasting one in Europe). At the ticket office: tourists' information, collection ore and fossil shop, postcards, print-outs and slides.
There are also one pretty restaurant and one bar where you could eat the typical tuscany food....

The beaches of the apuanian coast
Review of Tuscany (Italy) by
giannit
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...bacon (Lardo di Colonnata). And then again, cultural events and shows for everyone: music shows and plays, art shows, debates, folk festivals.
The easy connections by motorway and railway as well as the airport and tourists' ports also make it possible to take quick and picturesque tours to Lunigiana and Garfagnana, uncontaminated places with an antique atmosphere, as well as to the art towns of Tuscany, Lucca, Pisa and Florence....

Review of Under the Tuscan Sun (At Home in Italy) - Frances Mayes by
penguin_too
Advantages: Good read
Disadvantages:
...“Under the Tuscan Sun” by Frances Mayes is one of the most enchanting books I have ever read. It is all about Frances and her husband in their quest to set up a second home in Tuscany. Faced with the inevitable laid-back attitude of Italian builders and having sunk all their money into this house, it is makes for quite an amusing read. Despite their troubles the Mayes come out top and we get the pleasure of almost reading Frances’ diary of that time. Throughout the book are scattered little local recipes which makes it even more of a pleasure....

Wine...........why not......
Review of Melini Chianti by
taisu
Advantages: Genuine and controlled
Disadvantages: no one
...SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH
For the friends enrolled of Ciao.co.uk I want to express a modest opinion, for the wine which represents my region, represents Italy in the world, represents the wine in the true sense of the word: Chianti D.O.C.G.
The Chianti Melini factory is one of the best wine makers in Tuscany.
The zone of production of the Chianti controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin, is constituted from territories delimited by the law, are the provinces of Arezzo, Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.
This territory is' characterized by system of hills with big terraces with valleys crossed from rivers. The origin of the Chianti wine gets lost in the centuries, but it has had its highest level in the 800 when did obtain the controlled denomination of origin with the Decree of the President dell Republic 9/8/67 in which...

Galileo Galilei will you do the fandango...
Review of Pisa Airport (PSA) by
proxam
Advantages: Good central location for Tuscany
Disadvantages: It's an airport!
...Pisa International Airport, or, as Ryanair like to call it, 'Florence airport' likes to call itself 'the Strategic gateway to Tuscany'. If all that weren't confusing enough, its Sunday name is Pisa International Airport - Galileo Galilei. Of course, it doesn't really matter what its called - what matters is whether the flight you want goes there...and I suppose, departs from there.
When we took a trip to Tuscany last year, it rather conveniently did.
Actually, the description of the Gateway to Tuscany isn't a bad one as most people travelling there will have to use Pisa - Florence airport is smaller although I think there are plans to enlarge it. Not that it matters all that much, Florence isn't all that far from Pisa and there are excellent communication links. In fact, the railway station is literally on the doorstep.
The airport...

The province of Massa Carrara
Review of Carrara (Italy) by
giannit
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The province of Massa Carrara, situated at the northern most tip of Tuscany, is a small area but one where nature has been particularly generous. The most outstanding features of its landscape are the sea and the Apuan Alps.
10 km of fine sands: Marina di Carrara, Marina di Massa, Ronchi and Cinquale, Montignoso are all atractive beach resorts which are suitable for family holidays. To the north, in amongst the Apuan foothills, is the town of Massa, a 16th century dominion of the Malaspina family which has grown up from the original Medieval city dominated by its beautiful castle. Still today, the town is rich in valuable monuments: the Palazzo Ducale, Piazza Aranci, the cathedral and the gateways to the old walled city. Nestled in among the hills and olive groves lies Carrara, the capital of marble with its romanesque-gothic cathedral...
