stay near London £39 for 4 people
Review of Holiday Inn Express, Hemel Hempstead by
fionasdream
Advantages: economical base for visiting London
Disadvantages: limited restaurants near hotel
...Having lived in this area I can recommend the Holiday Inn Express at Hemel Hempstead an excellent base for staying while visiting London, without having to pay the London premiums. The train from Hemel Hempstead to London will take approx 20 mins.
Having relocated from the South East to the North West we needed to make a long weekend break in the south to attend a family celebration. After searching about the web came across Holiday Inn Express at Apsley Lock, Hemel Hempstead, Herefordshire.
STATIONERS PLACE, APSLEY LOCK
HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, HP3 9RH
UNITED KINGDOM

The were running a deal during July for a room with up to 4 people and including breakfast for £39.
I have checked today and on their website www.ichotelsgroup.com they still have the same deal available in 100 hotels. (Hemel Hempstead is one of them...

My favourite London hotel
Review of The Trafalgar Hilton, London by
DuckJen
Advantages: lovely hotel
Disadvantages: a tad pricey!
...during the week and i think it would mainly attract couples or friends at the weekend. Also, with it being quite modern it has a young vibe about it and the restaurant is not really geared up for children.
Would I go back?
Definitely, this hotel is very conveniently located and I have always enjoyed my stay here.
Who should stay here?
I think this is the ideal hotel to stay in if you are looking for somewhere in central London that is a bit different and stands out from Holidays Inns and other chains without being too expensive.

Living in LIVINGSTON
Review of Livingston by
proxam
Advantages: I live there
Disadvantages: That's an advantage?
...of the aforementioned James Young in the mid-19th century. This was the man who patented the process of extracting oil, initially from coal, but later from the far less expensive shale. Incidentally, the first oil refinery in the world was built at nearby Southfor...erm..Bathgate.
The sudden influx of heavy industry and immigrant workers spawned a series of boom towns all around West Lothian, and especially around the periphery of present-day Livingston.
This led to the characteristic landscape surrounding the town of massive, orange-pink coloured spoil heaps of spent shale (known locally as bings) from the oil refineries and chemical works. Many of these have now been landscaped.
Unfortunately, the shale-oil industry could not compete with cheaper imports from the Middle-east and the last mine closed in the early 1960's.
This was one of the reasons...

FLORIDA PART ONE
Review of What are the best places for a relaxing holiday? by
halk
Advantages: WOW
Disadvantages: ERR ! !
...on top of their Dodge Ram Daytona 4x4 cruisers, lustrous ladies in their attire, saturated sun tan cream glistening in the heat of the day, dripping from their golden thighs and not only the ladies, the guys spend most of the day showing off their skimpy stretched trunks; trying to look cool for the ladies, flexing their mussels' in the form of the kinder garden cop star Arnold Schwarzenegger's.
Plenty of hotels to choose from and the first man to start the ball rolling in the hotel chains was Matthias Day; Palmetto House (Hotel), in 1874 was the very first.
Travelling west down the i-4 towards some of Florida's best kept secrets and Beaches. St Petersburg beach is where you crave to be! A beautiful peninsula located on Florida's West coast, the area...

Fitting tribute to the man who invented Scotland
Review of Scott Monument, Edinburgh by
dobieg
Advantages: Inexpensive, central, only takes half an hour
Disadvantages: Very very high, not easy if you are fat and unfit (like me)
..., long socks, a pleated kilt, plaid over one shoulder, lace collared shirt, bonnet, sporran, etc, is also largely the product of his mind.
These are the rather superficial, if somewhat enduring signs of this man's influence, but there is far more behind the man than that.
Scott started recounting his tales of medieval chivalry in 1802 - a time when Europe was ravaged by revolution and conquest - his notion of the 'noble savage' in a time less complicated than the present struck a chord with it's readers, and he became the most widely read author of his period, both in the United Kingdom and beyond.
He was, in effect, of literally putting Scotland back on the map, and his influence can be felt to the present day, not only in the obvious sentiments expressed in modern films such as 'Braveheart' but deeper still, one can even draw parallels...

WHERE THE MAGIC NEVER ENDS
Review of Disney's Old Key West Resort, Orlando by
Newfloridian
Advantages: In the heart of the action; A Disney Vacation Club Resort
Disadvantages: You get what you pay for
...in an accommodation block they decided on selling a real estate interest to prospective vacationers. Depending on the size of the investment members were awarded points which they could trade for a variety of sizes of accommodations on a flexible basis throughout the year which was appropriate to their needs. This concept became the Disney Vacation Club (DVC).
Disney started construction of a series of accommodation units inside WDW - in the area between Disney Village and Epcot in 1992. Building continued over the course of the next four years and by the time it was complete there were 565 apartments. Although the complex itself was initially referred to as DVC, the name was changed to Disney's Old Key West Resort in the late 1990s when the concept expanded to other parts to the park. Now there are five DVC resorts in WDW (Old Key West, Boardwalk, Yacht...

Just south of the town, in the Bathgate hills, this henge and cairn was in use for 1000 years from around 3000BC. Although these hills are not very high, the views open up to such an extent that you can see almost all Central Scotland from east to west. It is open to the public.

Half price golf offers
Review of greenfeesavers.co.uk by
Woodster
Advantages: Saves money, gives you a reason to pay courses you havent yet played
Disadvantages: Some time restrictions
...This web site offers half price golf, or to be more precise two for the price of one at loads of courses in Scotland, Northern England and Ireland.
There are some restrictions, eg tee off times are sometimes restricted to midweek, or before 6pm etc, but are specific to each course. The web site offers links to each course which uses the offer giving details of the course, facilities, and any restrictions which apply.
You buy vouchers via the website,
5 COUPONS FOR £12.50
10 COUPONS FOR £22.50
15 COUPONS FOR £32.50
20 COUPONS FOR £42.50
and one voucher can be used for either two or four golfers.
I used it to visit West Lothian Golf course with three friends. The voucher cost £2.25, the fees were £38 in total, saving us £35.75. Bigger savings can be made if you visit more expensive courses. Listed below is a small selection...
