...Before World War II the Greek island of Cephallonia had existed as a peaceful collection of fishing villages. On the island was a very respected doctor who had a beautiful, strong-willed daughter. She becomes engaged to a young man and everything seems to be working out towards a happy, peaceful life. Then the war starts and the fiance goes off to fight for his king and country. The Italians come and occupy the island. They are a bumbling lot, mostly, and do not seem to want to be there. They delight in life and not in war, and the personification of this delight is Captain Corelli. He apologizes and fools his way through the war, and eventually charms the doctor's daughter. Perhaps when the war ends, they will live happily ever after. Then the Germans come. They are ruthless and fight a war when a war is on. They destroy the Greek... Read review

...I recently bought War & Peace (The War Disk) after hearing 'Fuck Dying', Cube's excellent collaboration with KoRn. I thought this tune was excellent so I purchased the album. This CD is better than good, it's excellent! Cube's lyrics are well thought out and his beats are a cut above the rest. From 'Ask About Me' to 'Fuck Dying' to 'Penitentiary', these tunes are all wicked! In my opinion, Ice Cube is the best rapper by far, and this album proves this. Since I bought it, it has rarely been out of my CD player and it is one of the best CD's I own. I recommend this CD to any fan of gangsta rap and hip-hop, or anyone who appreciates good music.... ...a highly decorative paved area in the centre of the Gardens with a series of Fountains in the middle shooting jets of Water over 12 feet into the air. These Fountains were named the Goodwin Fountains and they contain 89 individual jets. They were named after the late Sir Stuart Goodwin who was the founder of one of Sheffield's most important Steel Firms called Neepsend Ltd. Adjacent to the Goodwin Fountains are the Holberry Cascades. These magnificent Cascades take their name from Samuel Holberry, who was a leader of the Sheffield Chartist Movement. He was imprisoned for his part in the Sheffield Rising of 1840 and died in York Jail in 1841. The Peace Gardens also contain three important Monuments. These are the Standard Measures, the Bochum Bell and the Spanish Civil War Memorial. The Standard Measures can be found at the side... Read review

...One of the best 'hard' science fiction novels of the 1970's was surely Joe Haldeman's 'The Forever War.' This is not strictly speaking a sequel to this novel, but it is a 'companion peace' in as far as the attitude to war and politics is the same. Haldeman, it is clear, has little faith in the American political system, believing it to be wide open to incompetency and corruption. An act of incompetence unknowingly sets in motion the events of Forever War, and much of the danger in Forever Peace stems from mad 'endists', believers in the imminent Armageddon, who invade the political system. These madmen want to provoke war and destruction in order to bring about the end of the world, and much of Forever Peace is concerned with trying to prevent just that. ...It's cold now. Unfortunately, this wonderful and shinny Sunday in Salou is finishing… the day ‘after’.. after the massive protests of millions of people across the Globe against that stupid and amoral war on Iraq, the biggest demonstrations seen in Europe for years: -London: 750.000, -Rome: 1 million, -Berlin: 500.000, -Madrid: 1million, -Barcelona: nearly 1.300.000 protesters!!!!!, making it the city's biggest protest ever. (I love Barcelona!!!) But, will this weekend's anti-war protests have any effect?. … I don’t know, but I hope so. I hope that my Government (our ‘beautiful and intelligent’ Prime Minister Aznar - my good friend ‘Ansar’, said Bush-) should hear the voice of the Catalan, Spanish and international public opinion and give PEACE a chance, give REASON and JUSTICE a chance. ...This massive chronicle, to which Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) devoted five whole years shortly after his marriage, portrays Russian family life during and after the Napoleonic war. I would say thats this is one on Tolstoy's masterpieces and one of the greatest novels. War and Peace is a portrait of the nineteenth-century Russian life. luctucting between times of turbulence and lavish bouts of opulence. I remembering reading this great novel in my history lessons and could not put the book down then as i was swept away by Tolstoy's evocative, virbant prose. I remember the novel opens ata sumptuous party, where a group of aristrocats are discussing the notion of war, which felt that this was an early indication of troubles ahead. At this point in the book onlt in the first chapter they ta;lk about Napoleon's invasion of Russia... Read review
