Reviews of wax museum
House of wax is an absolute must see!
Review of Dare To Watch - House Of Wax (2005)/House Of Wax (1953) DVD by
mandella2
Advantages: extrodinary movie, rising tension throughout, unexpeced twist at the end
Disadvantages: none!
...The house of wax 2005 version is an excellently mind-blowing film of this year. Throughout the movie I was left on tenterhooks as to what would happen next, and the originality of the story line was like no other. The cleverness of the whole ' Turning real-life people into wax models for a wax-works museum' was simply extravagant. However, if you are squeemish in any way, this movie is not for you! You get to witness the crazy museum founder pour scolding hot wax onto one of the main characters of the movie, and see him scream in pain whilst the wax sets on him, not able to do anything about it. The whole story of all of the wax models in the museum then reveals the truth........... I actaully found this movie quite grousome, but it was excellent and, i actually found it quite amusing when the famous Paris Hilton died with a metal pole...

Wax - Wax - Wax
Review of Madame Tussauds, London by
Whymeciaoers
Advantages: "
Disadvantages: "
...This museum is brilliant, its one of the most popular places in London and you will not be dissapointed. Wax everywhere but full of artists and historical figures which look so real to life.
Its not a lot of money and you can spend a whole day there a feel you have done something. There are lots of queues which is a bit of a downer but at least when you do get in its really worth the visit.
You also have the planetarium to visit which is only next door and that too will not dissapoint because you learn about the stars and planets and about the space universe. Its a great museum for children and adults and you also have a tourist shop on the way out. You can buy all sorts of stuff. You can either buy museum stuff or London landmark statues.
I highly recommend this museum to all tourists and locals but remember to leave on time because...

House Of Wax
Review of House Of Wax DVD by
Bens__mummy
Advantages: Good film
Disadvantages: Paris Hilton
...a garage. This is when they come across a very strange and quiet town. There is one person about and another 2 hidden but that is it. This is when they come across the garage owner that is in the church who they think is at a funeral !! So off they go to explore until he's done. Little by little they start to realise that the town is full of dead people that are covered in wax and placed in a display from house to shops to the church. Creating a wax museum. One by one the friends are picked off to be relived their own wax density. With a few extra twists along the way.
The best bits of the film for me personally are when Paris gets a spike through the head. Another bit where the other girl has her mouth super glued together. Classic !!

Wax Horror!
Review of House Of Wax DVD by
dempsey_review
Advantages: fresh new horror
Disadvantages: a little far fetched
...Why not watch this over a candle lit dinner?
Although it's a re-invention of the old horror of the same title from 1953, it's story takes a completely different approach.
---------------------
The Plot -
---------------------
A group of friends (6 in total) are on their way to a football match. After stopping for a rest-bite, they experience some trouble with their cars. Not having the parts they need to get their ride up and running again, they venture into a nearby town, too find a garage. They come across a wax museum called 'the house of wax', with very life-like wax works. Little do they know they might actually end up as one of them, as two crazed brothers have a fetish for turning real people into wax sculptures.
Realising the horror which lies in the old town, it becomes a desperate struggle for survival, as it seems...

Rome's third museum
Review of Museo Nazionale Romano - Palazzo Massimo alle Terme by
womble
Advantages: interesting collections
Disadvantages: quite expensive (
...smaller pieces, busts of emperors and the like. The difference from the Capitoline museums is that in the Nazionale Romano, the displays are in chronological order, giving you a feel for the differences in style and taste as the state of the Roman empire (and her riches), waxed and waned.
The second floor, is something of the highlight. It is where the paintings and mosaics are located. There is a semi-reconstruction of a villa (Villa Farnese, which actually lies in Trastevere in Rome), in the sense that they display the walls which had been painted, and the mosaics on the floor. They also have artifacts and mosaics taken from Villa Adriana in Tivoli. The guided tour, impressively conducted simultaneously in English and Italian was useful and gave a further insight into Roman life.
It is a museum that was something of an eye opener to me. I...

Wax on Wax off - TO THE EXTREME
Review of Turtle Wax - Car Wax by
robspace
Advantages: Fantastic finish and lasting shine
Disadvantages: Hard to get out of the pot
...I started using turtle wax extreme car wax a couple of months back having previously tried several other waxes, without ever finding quite what I was looking for.
The turtle wax, however was different, the extreme wax takes a fairly solid form and comes with an applicator sponge, with which you apply the wax, prefereably to a panel at a time, before removing and buffing up with a couple of cloths.
The results once the job is done are fantastic and easily equal or outperform many of the more expensive waxes on the market which are often labelled as the choice of professionals.
I find that many of the waxes on the market today take quite a sloppy liquid form so it's nice to find a wax that can actually be classed as a wax, and despite the additional effort applying it, when compared to the liquid waxes, the results make it a worthwhile job...

Dip Me In Wax
Review of Madame Tussauds, London by
Andy.mack
Advantages: Amazing attention to detail, worth at least one visit.
Disadvantages: The price, All the added extras you could spend £50 each easily
...A few weeks ago on my first adventure into London in a few years we decided that a trip to Madame Tussauds was in order. It had proved to be a day where we couldn’t decide what to do. Having been at the Dungeons earlier in the day we were going to go to The Millennium Eye. Due to a low cloud covering over London we decided it’d be a waste of money so we headed for Madame Tussauds instead. As it comes included in my Theme Park annual pass was just a bonus.
If you’ve not heard of Madame Tussauds it’s a large museum containing a number of wax works based on famous people. The wax works started in 1835 when a French woman moved into a bizarre in Baker street with a number of wax mouldings of heads from people punished by the guillotine in France. She died in 1884 and her son carries on her small exhibit, which slowly grows through the years...

A Lawsuit Waiting To Happen
Review of Dublin Wax Museum, Dublin by
zoe_page
Advantages: Funny in a bad way, cheapish, central
Disadvantages: Not up to the standards of other similar museums, nor of other places in Dublin
...As a veteran of Madame Tussauds, that frightful place on the promenade in Blackpool and a dodgy set-up in a tent on a Polish pier, I thought I would have a pretty good idea what to expect from a wax museum, but the Irish take on it certainly surprised me.
We went to the museum because it was raining and we were passing. We hadn’t set out to go there, nor did we know it existed until we saw the sign, but we decided to chance it, if only to find somewhere to shelter for half an hour or so. The Wax Museum in Dublin is located on Granby Row, off Parnell Square. This is up near the end of O’Connell Street, heading away from the river and with the shiny silver spike behind you. It is simultaneously in the vicinity of shops, bars, restaurants and cinemas without actually being right next to any of these.
The entrance is not at all like...

The biggest football stadium i have ever seen
Review of Nou Camp - Barcelona F.C. by
SamanthaM
Advantages: A great football stadium with a fantastic museum.
Disadvantages: A bit far out but easly reached in a bus or car.
...the walls. There are models of the various football grounds they have owned, which are very life like and minuscule compared to the actual stadium.
There are old football toys and games, which the team used to sell to their fans which still work. In the older section of the museum there are wax figures in the old style changing rooms, offices and such like wearing the old football kits which was a nice touch. You can buy tickets for games there when you go and visit for ten pounds or less as long as it is not a major game.
It also houses sports awards and information on the various sports that Barcelona as won awards in from hockey, volleyball and indoor football.
It is extremely cheap to go round the museum and it takes about an hour so you get much more than your moneys worth as you get to go inside the stadium and take in the spectacular...

Madame Tussaud Lives In The Foyer
Review of National Wax Museum by
the_mad_cabbie
Advantages: Keep the kids (and yourself) amused.
Disadvantages: Not as big as Madame Tussauds
...~ ~ Most of you will either have visited or heard of the famous London wax museum, Madame Tussauds, which has hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, and is renowned the world over.
I love it myself, and the “mad cabbies” family visited it on their last trip to London last year, and were highly impressed. (Also with the neighbouring Planetarium)
But I bet not so many of you are aware that here in Dublin we also have our very own “miniature” Madame Tussaud’s, in the form of the National Wax Museum.
It’s at Granby Row, just off the top end of Parnell Square (West), which is itself within spitting distance of the main thoroughfare of O’Connell Street.
~ ~ Before this Museum opened in 1983, on the site of an old cinema, there hadn’t been a waxworks in Dublin since 1916, when the last one...
