Wok's This Then?
Review of Ken Hom Wok by
nosreme7
Advantages: quick healthy eating
Disadvantages: unlikely to be used regularly
..."New Year New Me", well that was what was supposed to happen. I just had my second baby in December and with Christmas and all I found myself somewhat larger than my usual size. I decided like thousands of others that 2004 was going to be the year I got thin!! Having tried various diets such as Weight Watchers, Atkins, Scottish Slimmers etc I made up my mind to eat more healthily.
I really fancied a juicer but my preferred make, the Anthony Worral Thomson Breville Juicer comes in at around £90 so I decided on the somewhat cheaper Ken Hom Wok at £14.99 from my local Argos. I had always been told that wok cooking was healthy way to cook and thought I would give it a try.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
The wok itself looks very professional - black with a wooden handle engraved with Ken Hom's signature. You will need to assemble the wok...

Wok Wok - A Perfect Meal in Manchester
Review of Wok Wok, East Didsbury, Manchester by
ekwiz
Advantages: Tasty and a Bargain
Disadvantages: Not open 24 hours!!!
...The Wok Wok restaurant in East Didsbury, Manchester must be one of the best value for money establishments in Manchester. It is typical that Chinese is more expensive in restaurants than perhaps Indian meals however with prices from £6.95 (lunch buffet) to £9.95 (weekday evening buffet) and £12.95 (weekend evening buffet) it is very difficult to argue with the bill at the end of your meal.
Wok Wok also serve a normal but very interesting menu offering some dishes that cannot be found on the Buffet tables. I have visited a number of times both in the evening and on all occasions there were at least 8 different starter dishes and 10 main meal dishes with rice and noodles.
The starters are very refreshing with beautiful chinese soup, fruit (pineapple, melon, water melon and oranges) chicken wings, ribs and spring rolls. Naturally...

Wok can we do with this then?
Review of Ken Hom Wok by
hazle
Advantages: You can cook anything in it
Disadvantages: A bit on the heavy side
...Well low and behold someone finally took the hint that I needed a new wok, and santa brought it. This is the second ken hom wok that I have owned. The first one I got was when I was 15 and that was 10 years ago, and I have only just thrown it out, as it was starting to rust. So I was very pleased when I received this for christmas. It is not often that something I own lasts any length of time but 10 years is good. Lets start with how durable this wok is. Now I use my wok for everything, and when I say everything I mean everything. I make stir fry's, soup, mince, stew and I even use it to deep fry things. So I use my wok about 3 to 4 times a week, the rest of the time we have take out or hubby cooks (not very often but some times he will cook).
Right what size is it? Well I am sure that my new wok is a little smaller than my old...

Lets Wok around the Wok!!
Review of The Big Wok - Birmingham by
marie130569
Advantages: Cheap, Lots of choice.
Disadvantages: Gets Very Busy.
...The first time I went to the Big Wok was with a colleague from work, its in a side street near The Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham, if I hadn't been taken there I would of never have gone as it quite easy to drive past.
The location isn't ideal as it is quite easy to miss, but it is quite close to the bars and clubs in the Arcadian centre.
We usually park in the Arcadian centre car park but if that's full there is an NCP car park right next to the Big Wok
The Address: 5 Wrottesley Street, Birmingham
Telephone Number: 0121 666 6800
Since being introduced I have gone back several times, its ideal if you want a cheap meal before going to theatre.
Depending on time visiting you may have to queue before being able to get in. The busiest times I have found are Friday and Saturday nights also on Sunday lunchtime.

This place woks!
Review of Big Wok Restaurant, Nottingham by
Thehonesttruth
Advantages: cheap food, friendly service, wide selection
Disadvantages: cluttered layout
...What is Big Wok?
*******************
Big Wok is a growing chain of fast food buffet restaurants, and the branch I am reviewing is the Nottingham branch. Its open from 12 noon till 11pm and the basic premise is simple - eat as much as you like from a huge selection of dishes, and pay one price for the meal and then extra for your drinks.
Do I need to reserve?
***********************
There’s no need to reserve, although you can. Simply turn up at the door when you wish to eat, and you'll generally be seated at a table within a few minutes. Generally, you get to stay for as long as you want, although on busy days you may be asked before being seated if you'd mind finishing up within 2 hours, and if you come in at lunchtime and stay beyond 6pm, you will also be charged the higher rate for the evening buffet.
Staff and Service...

Eurohike Adventure Cookset with Burner
Review of Eurohike Adventure Cookset with Burner by
PaulineLees
Advantages: Small, Compact, Lightweight, Affordable.
Disadvantages: Get's a bit hot when cooking.
...be to touch.
The Adventure Cookset can be purchased with or without the burner. With the burner the set costs £19.99, without it costs £14.99. Both available through millets at these prices. Which I think is a bargain! If you want to use the cookset as a means of cooking, you definitely need to purchase the set with the burner. However if you are looking to purchase extra cookware for your camping holidays and want it cheaply then the set without the burner is a cheap way of doing this.
Once all of the pots and pans have been removed from themselves, the set fits together very easily. The base with the air holes in is placed on the floor. This has a large diameter so gives a stable surface on which to cook. The windsheild then slots on to this to protect the burner from the wind. The burner itself sits in the centre of the base. Methylated...

Big Wok, small price
Review of Big Wok Restaurant, Nottingham by
mum2boys82
Advantages: Loads of variety
Disadvantages: No parking
...Who in Nottingham has not heard of Big Wok? It's situated in the old Co-Op building in the centre of town. The main down side of this is that there is no parking, you have to use either a NCP car park or park in one of the shopping centre car parks.
I have actually lost count of the amount of times I have visited Big Wok. I have been during the weekday afternoons, weekends, school holidays and for 1 evening meal. It is always fairly busy with school holidays being the longest I have had to wait to be seated.
The Ambiance
--------------------
It is a very large building set out more as a canteen than a restaurant. As you enter the door a member of staff shows you to a table and takes your drink order.
There are a mixture of round and square tables with the food carts (not sure of proper name of these, hot plate type...

Wok are you waiting for?
Review of Amoy Straight to Wok Black Pepper Sauce by
MagicWend
Advantages: Cheap, Quick, Easy, Delicious.
Disadvantages: High salt content.
...don't know) then by all means, chuck it in your wok.
I am sincerely not an expert cook, so will not "Delia Smith" you with recipes, I don't follow them myself, I just concoct something with whatever is available, and hope for the best. My husband tends to think of himself as a bit of a Ken Hom, setting the wok on fire, and that, throwing it about a bit. So if he insists on cooking the stir-fry, which is nearly all the time due to his entirely unfounded belief that he's a better cook than me, i just let him. Actually, he is a really good cook, he can even bake bread that you can get the knife through, quite an achievement considering we don't have one of those"chuck millions of seeds, fruit, flour etc into me and hey presto there's a steaming hot two-pounder" automatic breadmakers.
Back to the product. It's in a squashy foil packet...

Be your very own Mongolian Master Chef
Review of Mongolian Wok Bar, Oxford by
dancingfishes
Advantages: Select your own fresh ingedients. Cooked before your eyes. Great value and good fun
Disadvantages: Food is a bit greasy and building could do with air-conditioning
...I had my first experience of the Mongolian Wok two days ago when my boyfriend and I went out to celebrate his birthday. The restaurant operates a fixed price for eating and mid-week, which is when we went, this is £9.50 per person. A very reasonable price for more food than you can shake a stick at.
The restaurant has a very large seating area and is well suited to parties as there are numerous very long tables. A couple of large parties were already eating when we arrived which filled the restaurant with chatter.
We were shown to a table and a waiter took our drinks orders and brought us our starters. The house lager turned out to be surprisingly good and at only £2.30 a pint was good value for drinking in a restaurant. For starters, we were brought an assortment of vegetarian bits and pieces including won-tons, spring rolls...
