...Greece and its many islands is THE perfect place for a fabulous holiday. I speak from experience as I have visited corfu(twice),rhodes,zante(twice)and the peloponees although I have been to many other european destinations Greece always draws me back. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for from your week or two in the sun.I personally like to unwind put my feet up and forget about the world for a couple of weeks every year. You dont need to be wealthy as for little more than £200 each is all youll need to pay on a late deal leaving you loads of money over for eating and drinking well while you are in paradise Choose one of the many small specialist tour operators who deal just with greece as they always seem to have the best villas and apartments and are the most reasonable on price. Advantages: Solid midfielder

...Known as Kostas, his first big club was AEK Athens where he scored 49 goals before moving on to Benfica where he plays now. He's not one of the stars of the 2008 tornament but the midfielder knows where the net is which will be vital if Greece are to weave their way through a tough group. At 28, this is the peak of his career and he will be looking to put a show on to get himself in the shop window. He has been playing international football since 2003 and is looking to gain his 50th cap for Greece in Austria/Switzerland, which will only happen if Greece make it to the knockout stages. Advantages: Eat where the Greeks eat in mainland towns and islands.

...I have just returned from a two week holiday in Greece at Easter. If you live in a big city, Greece is the perfect antidote. I spent most of my time doing one of three things: eating out, swimming or sleeping... After the first night in Athens we hired a car and drove to Delphi, where I had the best moussaka I've ever tasted, as well as taking in all the local history, of course. Then we went further north to the Ionian Coast, which was incredible, with perfect views, and amazingly hospitable locals. That part of Greece seems really special because it is still fairly untouched and there aren't many tourists.... Greece is one of the best countries in the world for vegetarians. I could easily give up meat if carefully prepared and slow-cooked classics such as papoutsakia ( aubergines stuffed with leeks and tomatoes ) and gigantes... Read review

...Having booked a fairly last minute deal to Greece we decided to try Zante and Alykanas. After a fairly trouble free flight and reasonable transfer time from the airport we arrived at Alykanas Beach Village. The title "Is this really where we are staying" was used by my wife to the travel rep !!. First impressions were excellent, it looked really new and to be honest was probably better than anywhere else we had stayed. The apartments are well furnished and include a tv, kettle toaster etc. The quality of furnishing is excellent although this could be because the complex is fairly new. Air conditioning is available at a price - either 8 euros a day or 50 euros a week. We travelled fairly late June and paid for air conditioning, given temperatures in excess of 40 this was a godsend. ...realised, we spent most of our time sunbathing, swimming and turtle spotting at Laganas Bay. One place I will recommend is Shipwreck Bay on the west coast of the island. Stand on the sheer cliff top; a platform offers superb views of a ship buried in the sand hundreds of feet below. This is the photograph that is often displayed on postcards and brochures featuring Zante. Zakinthos (Zante) is one of the Ionian Islands which offer beautiful beaches, pine-clad mountains and a dramatic coastline. These fertile islands are situated between Greece and Italy and offer vineyards, olive groves and orchards. There are seven main islands in this group. Kefalonia, is the largest, Lefkas and Zante are popular for their sandy beaches. My husband would have quite happily stayed in Zante for the rest of the season spending his time turtle watching... ...to the shore. The food in greece is very cheap and you can buy a substantial meal for only £3 pounds. Typical dishes include mousakka and grilled meats with salad. Apparently all the greek islands are very similar. There is not a huge amount to do on the island but if you want a relaxing break away with cheap food and a clear blue sea to swim in then this is the place for you.... Read review

...Greece is such a marvelous country, infact my favourite country in europe. This has been a favourite holiday destination of mine sine childhood. I have visited numerous islands, Athens and Northern greece. Firstly i must mention the greek people they are very friendly when you get outside the main resorts, not that they are not friendly there but out in the sticks they are even more friendly. Especially if you are fortunate to have blone hair they dont see blondies very much and treat you really special, I have been brought many drinks by the locals because of this. Most of the countryside in greece and the islands is dedicated to olive groves and makes for a nice drive in the country for a picknick or afternoon stroll. ...The scene was set in the tremendous Luz Stadium in Lisbon, the Portuguese fan base; indeed the whole country, had been celebrating up until the Euro 2004 final. Portugal aware but not concerned about the fact that Greece had beat them in their opening game of the tournament; beginners luck, or so they thought. Who could blame them, Greece are an unknown entity in the footballing world, only Nikos Dabizas who played for Newcastle United can be pointed out with any authority as a well known face amongst the Greek team. Greece incidentally lost the first two of their qualifying matches for Euro 2004 and has no experience in major tournaments as they have never won a game! The road to the final for Greece saw them win Portugal 2-1, draw with Spain, lose to Russia 2-1 then beat France 1-0 in the quarter final and score that amazing silver... Read review

...Ionian Eco Villagers (formerly known as Gerakas Villagers) is a small family-run business. My husband and I had a holiday with this company back in October 2001. They operate from both Greece and England. They rent their self-catering villas on the Greek island of Zakynthos (Zante). Booking with them was quite easy. They were very helpful and dealt with our flights and accommodation reservation very efficiently. The package price included a free taxi pick-up from the airport. This was a real bonus – we could explore the scenery of this lovely island from the window of a private air-conditioned car. Our villa was overlooking the sea, which was great. We also had a little garden with sun beds. The interior was OK, we wouldn't have expected anything luxurious in a self-catering villa. There were 2 beds – one double and one single... Read review

...We stayed at the Louis Palazzo di zante for 2 weeks in August 2007 as a family of 4. It is in the resort of Vasilikos in south eastern zante and is situated together with its 2 sister hotels the Imperial and Royal overlooking the local beach with a lift from the Imperial down to the beach which is a godsend for those with kids. The Louis Palazzo di zante is a family orientated hotel with a venetian style canal within the complex with all the rroms overlooking it. We thought you could swim in it as others did we spoke to. When we got there we found it was a design ornamental feature only about 9 inches deep but very attractive. The room we stayed in was a family room consisting of 2 bedrooms and a bathroom and balcony. The bathroom is clean with toilet shower over the bath and basin.
