Thanks for the comments folks. ladyofsorrow, I normally wouldn't be riding on pavements or anything like that in the UK, but I've noticed on the continent (more specifically in France and Italy) that it just isn't a problem. People don't get irate, they don't shout and wail, and don't write into the local newspaper. Mainly because the bike is seen a legitimate mode of transport (so respected on the road), but one which is less dangerous than cars and more portable (so not seen as a problem if they occasionally take to pedestrian areas). People just get on without the aggro. As a daily cyclist it opened my eyes. by blackpuddinonnabike

Don't bother. These people give no service and are proud of it! If you making a booking from another country they won't confirm it by fax, even for a reasonable fee! If you need a visa to travel to france these people won't help you by simply confirming your booking! And you haven't arrived at the hotel yet!

Take the waiters' indifference for what it is: PURE RUDENESS!! It is still too expensive for the quality of food it offers, our meal was frankly digusting and we didn't dare ordering dessert. It's a shame for all the little restaurants who are trying to do a good work. The settings are truly nice but not worth this unpleasant experience. Plenty of real french brasseries serve a lot better food with same kind of prices but respect you as a customer, this is a real tourist-trap, don't go in there! paul et ML, leaving in paris

I had my first trip to Paris in June, it was so much more than I expected. I would highly recommend the tourist buses as it brings you to all the top attractions. Would also recommend a boat trip on the Seine, it was awesome.
