We often go for galettes when we eat out over at the French house . I love them . And as we are in Brittany , they are authentic Breton pancakes . Except that the restaurant owner is Mexican , but thats another story .. J xx by Janej47

Over 100 years old, this zoo was the first in Europe to showcase animals in their "natural" habitats, rather than cages. The grounds are lovely, so it's as much a park as a zoo. And it's large--allow more time than you normally think you'd need.

Stayed there once on a business trip on a special offer. Decent rooms, excellent location, extra-ordinary service. Up in the luxury end of the market, but always worth a stay.

Sorry, but not very impressed especially about the "no landmarks" remark: Speicherstadt, Hamburger Michel, St Pauli, the harbour etc. So much to do in Hamburg and unfortunately it is not reflected in your review. Also the botanical garden is called Planten en Bloomen and the Hamburger Dom is held more than once a year ... Sorry to be a bit of a nag but I am from Hamburg ... by gunner_mel

I think the 'Dom' funfair is being held throughout (most of?) the year now. Hamburg is also known for the many musicals that take place there, for the famous Hafenstraße (and the squatters who used to live there), for the HSV and for the St. Pauli football club (the one with the pirate flag!), and of course for it's international harbour and pirate stories like the one of Stoertebecker. I didn't know about the miniature train park, thoug. by knight_of_the_soundtable
