We booked and paid for three rooms two months in advance, but when we arrived we were told there were no rooms available-they had apparently been given to a coach party that had arrived just before us. We asked to speak to the manager or duty manager but were told they were not on site and could not be contacted. After a long delay we were offered inferior, cheaper accommodation, 20 minutes drive away in another town, and our evening in Ieper was ruined. I have written to the Hotel but have not even had the courtesy of an acknowledgement.

Advantages: you learn a lot about the world war, doesn't cost a lot if you visiting from U.K
Disadvantages: The weather could be really cold and muddy in some areas

Nice restaurant right in the center of the city. The restaurant is conveniently located at the "Grote Markt", right next to the city hall. Plenty of parking space is available around this area. The place is called the "small city hall" as in the middle ages, there was supposed to be a "secret door" from the real city hall to this pub. They have a nice room upstairs for larger groups. The prices are reasonable, ranging 8-25 euro for the main course. The quality of the food is good and the service is nice as well. They do serve excellent beers from smaller lesser known Belgian breweries. I've been there several times already, it's definitely my favorite place in the center of this city.

I thought this review was an exceptional first hand account of Ypres and it has given me even more intention to stop off there in July when I'm planning to go to northern France and Belgium to see the Tour de France. by manxfelipe
