Nicco Park - It's Park Full of Amusements
Review of Nicco Park, Calcutta by anonymili

Advantages: Fun day out for all of the family
Disadvantages: Really poor toilet facilities

Nicco Park is in Salt Lake which is on the north-eastern side of Calcutta, India. It's basically an amusement park - Calcutta's Disneyland if you will. It was opened in 1991 and has amused locals and tourists ever since with it's 40 acres of park and ride ... Read review

How I got mugged by a monkey on a mountain
Review of Jakhoo Temple, Shimla, India by koshkha

Advantages: Great views, interesting cultural experience
Disadvantages: Aggressive monkeys

On your first day at high altitude, the normal advice is to take things easy; drink lots of water, walk slowly, breathe deeply and get used to the change in atmosphere. Rushing around like a lunatic is a bad idea and can set off altitude sickness. So, ... Read review

Don't go looking for Heritage In the Heritage Inn
Review of Heritage Inn, Amritsar by koshkha

Advantages: Great location, fair price
Disadvantages: Surly service with too much attitude

When planning our trip to India in November 2007, there was one attraction that was set in stone - the non-negotiable, 'come hell or high water', must-see destination for us was the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Ever since I read a review in a guidebook to I ... Read review

I was quite surprised when you said you would reccommend it however since it was only £20 the place seems ok. x by tiger645
For £20 a night and only a three-night stay – I could live without the room being cleaned. No meat, no eggs, no alcohol…might just explain why everyone was in such a bad mood. Those with withdrawal getting to upset everyone else. The whole thing sounds fabulous to me…although I’m not sure I’d extract much entertainment value out of dancing pigeons. Lx by hiker

Calcutta (India)......................Kolkata
Review of Calcutta (India) by Jarrac

Advantages: Amazingly hospitable, Great people, Historical British architecture, Great transport links, Good food .
Disadvantages: Racist overcharging of foreign visitors. Third world government for a first rate people .

Its one thing allowing locals in for a reasonable price and charging everyone else slightly more, for subsidy or for preservation purposes but this is in the form of extortion. Its not widely publicised and believe me if you go and take family it will cost a pretty penny to have a good look around. Thats not fair when added to the cost of getting there, transport for getting around, accomadation and food. Remember we don't do discrimination. That said, its an amazing country and the people are fantastic. It won't stop me going, I'll just do it differently. Thanks. by Jarrac
Is it that the foreigners are over charged, or are they subsidising the locals whose economies are so different to ours that they would never be able to afford to visit their own museums, etc? I really want to go to India and your review has sparked up that bug again! Gwen x by orlando

A shame it's been rather spoiled by tourism. Lexy by Bollinger28
Welcome to India. Would have to agree with the comment below that Goa is very much the new Ibetha or Benidorm LOL! It's really not considered the "real" India so much these days as it's become way too "touristy" in recent years and a hot spot for ravers from around the world! The stray dogs are an issue all over India although I've not been attacked by one out there, I've been quite scared to see them roaming the streets at dusk looking ready to pounce on anyone who goes by!
