A spacious, well laid out national museum
Review of Bahrain National Museum, Manama by xameeurc

Advantages: Modern and airy, well displayed exhibits, very cheap entry price
Disadvantages: None really, apart from cafe usually shut

Bahrain National Museum is a modern, spacious museum (opened in 1988) with lots of interesting things to see, and well worth a couple of hours if you are in Bahrain. The entrance fee is only 500 fils (about 70p) and children are free. It is situated ... Read review

Bahrain - a melting pot of cultures
Review of General: Bahrain by lillygirl

Advantages: Can see it all in a day or two
Disadvantages: No beaches, lack of tourist attractions, expensive taxis

An island with without any beaches? It doesn't seem possible yet somewhow Bahrain manages to acheive it. A tiny island attached to the vastness of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain is a Kingdom with big plans. Like many of the other Gulf countries, it is a mel ... Read review

Look what I found when I was clearing some files from my work database .... a review I wrote after I had been to Bahrain in June 2001. As part of my job, working within a global conference and events organiser, I used to do so much more International ( ... Read review

I was there for many yers in the 60's - 70's - don't want to go back - the changes would sadden me bu I would recomend it for a first timer - mainly friendly people. Bahrain used to be the burial isand for the ancient Delmun civilisation so you are standing on a huge graveyard.!! Normal flight time is a great deal less than 9hrs. by webfoot
wow, i only ever stopped off there on the way to the maldives, very cheap duty free! i got a watch for £400 less than uk prices by earlofaldgate

Hospitality on Fantasy Island
Review of Sheraton Hotel Bahrain by Vodkaboy

Advantages: Good location, pleasant service, some great people
Disadvantages: Limited dining options, bland pool

Bahrain is a small group of islands just off the coast of Saudi Arabia. Because of its relatively liberal attitudes, it has always been a haven to where people escape from the rest of the Middle East, for R&R and sanity. For this reason it has acquired th ... Read review

Gorgeous, tasty but not very clever.
Review of Novotel Al Dana Resort, Bahrain by Vodkaboy

Advantages: Beautiful style, good food
Disadvantages: Dull rooms, can be a bit slow

There is a bit of a rivalry between Bahrain and Dubai. The history of trade and friendship between Bahrain and the West, particularly UK, goes back decades, and until maybe fifteen years ago, Bahrain was considered the jewel of the Gulf, people would go t ... Read review

Disadvantages: Not much there for tourists

I may well be horribly biased but I think this is a fantastic place. After all I was born in Bahrain, but I hadn’t been back for at least 15 years when I visited family friends for a week last summer. It strikes me that Bahrain is far from an up and ... Read review

You've certainly given some basics about a beautiful country, and I agree with some of your comments about bars and marines! :) It would be useful to know something about where to stay (I appreciate you stayed with friends but there are lots of hotels there), what do apart from the souk, bars and boating; culture and history; how liberal (I actually found that it was liberal and more women were not in hijab); shopping; beaches; eating out; costs etc. It you feel like adding more I would be glad to re-rate. by Vodkaboy
Though I find this somewhat helpful, you seem to have missed outthe best bits .... where are the scenery descriptions ???? The amazing places to visit?? The stunning shopping malls??? It can't have changed that much in a couple of years. I was there in 2002. Might write my own review. Thanks Jasmina by hijabjas

Bahrain is a rare pearl in the Arabian Gulf. More relaxed than it's strictly Islamic neighbours - it combines the rich Arab culture with a more relaxed, somewhat Western, outlook. This small island, connected to the Saudi Arabian mainland by an enormous ... Read review
