It currently houses many paintings and items of great historical interest ... ...regional furniture.
You are able to explore the period rooms, art gallery and learn more about Burnley's history whilst a Mouse Trail through the Museum keeps the children ( and adults ! ) entertained.
My favourites are a real life stuffed bear which sits in a glass display and was always a favourite in my primary schools urban legend ghost stories, the best being that at night it comes to life and kills anyone left ... more

It currently houses many paintings and items of great historical interest ie natural history, egyptology, local history, textiles, decorative art and regional furniture.
You are able to explore the period rooms, art gallery and learn more about Burnley's history whilst a Mouse Trail through the Museum keeps the children ( and adults ! ) entertained.
My favourites are a real life stuffed bear which sits in a glass display and was always a favourite in my primary schools urban legend ghost stories, the best being that at night it comes to life and kills anyone left in the hall !!! My other favourite display is of an inca mummy that was recently on display, quite creepy because you could make out all the features on the face, brrrrr.
The Hall is currently open 6 days a week, it only closes on Fridays.
The opening hours of the Museum of Local Crafts and Industries may vary.

The main entrance on Todmorden Road is about a mile from the centre of Burnley.
Towneley Hall is about a mile from the entrance in the centre of the Park. Parking for cars and Coaches is free. There is a cafe in the grounds close to the Hall. Disabled Access Most of the Museum is wheelchair accessible. Two lifts provide access to the Art Galleries, Family Dining Room, Towneley Room, Chapel, Local History Room, Regency Rooms, Kitchen, Servants Dining Room, Military Room, Collectors and Collections and Great Hall.
The Long Gallery and Decorative Arts Room are unfortunately not accessible, but are both featured in a Virtual Tour which can be accessed in the Orientation Room off the Great Hall.
Visitors may find it best to be enter the museum via the New Extension and Shop area.
The hall can be hired out for special occasions, such as weddings, and also conferences and meetings.
Being such a fan of this place since I was a little kid I could not pass up the chance to get married here, so I have booked my big day for next year and must say - I can't wait.
Its certainly somewhere you should visit if you are ever in the area and remember its free.

I often visit Townley Hall with my four year old god-daughter and we both love going there. It is a massive old mansion that was used by the Townley family and they only moved out about 20 years ago. I remember going to Townley Hall on a school trip and I loved the guided tour as you get shown all the monks hiding holes. It is a very educational place for children aged 4+. There is a nice, clean park which appeals to children of all ages. There is ... ...through townley halls website. Townley Hall is signposted on the M65 and is near Burnley town centre. There are plenty of parking spaces and there is a beautiful garden centre next door. All in all I really enjoy going to Townley Hall and have done since I was a child. ...

offering Indian, Chinese, Lebanese and Italian food amongst others. There's a large Asian population in Burnley so if you're lucky enough to be a fan of curries, you won't have to go far to find a restaurant or takeaway offering an excellent selection of Asian food.
If you like to shop til you drop, the Trafford Centre and Manchester city centre are a bus ride away. Burnley town centre itself has a decent selection of High Street shops and there's even a rumour that Primark may be coming to town after Debenhams decided to take their business elsewhere.
And for the more cultured visitors, there's TownleyHall, a large country house on the edge of town which is home to a museum and art collection. Entry is free to Burnley residents (there's another incentive to move here!) and I have visited once and was rather impressed by the artifacts ...
