Having been assured by our tour operator only two days before we left that there were certainly no building works taking place, we were disgusted to arrive at a building site!!!!! There was dust and dirt everywhere. The only working lift was being used by the builders and was filthy. We found our way to our room which overlooked a swimming pool surrounded by four blocks of rooms. They were refurbishing the block ajacent to us. In the middle of the night there were high winds and one of the windows in the block was blown out. I hate to think what would have happened if anybody had been underneath!!!

Our room was average, but then we found that our companions next door couldn't lock their french windows which led directly to the pool. The electricity went off twice while we were there and there was no hot water at certain times of the day.

Meals were taken in a restaurant which was upstairs, with no lift access. We had to come down to reception and then climb this staircase. Not good, if you are disabled. The choice of food was minimal and not particularly well presented.

We didn't try the bar ourselves, but some in our party did, and said that the beer worked out at around £9 a pint.

The only thing going for this hotel is that it is within walking distance of the city of Petra and it stands on a main road where there are shops that you can purchase eats, drinks, etc.

We were only there for 2 nights (thank goodness) and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Perhaps when they have finished the refurbishment ( Goodness knows when that will be. They work SO slowly) it might improve the place, but in my opinion there are plenty of other places to stay when ou visit Petra and Petra Palace Hotel is definitely bottom of my list.
